Hi Ginny & Alan,I rec’d. Doug and Jon’s notes from your home visit and I would like to tell you that we will move you to “ready for a ‘sparedale”!!!!!
Doug mentioned a couple of things in his note that are of import.
It is not often practical/possible to meet the ‘dale ahead of time…distance/location is usually an obstacle. We in ARG do our utmost to match the right ‘dale with the right family. We are as transparent as we can be with the information we are given by whomever surrenders him/her. There are bound to be “issues” to be worked through in any rescue…just re-homing is HUGE and time and patience are needed as I’m sure you know or you wouldn’t be doing this.
In relation to the electric fence, we (ARG) require that the ‘dale never be left outside unattended.
So, with that being said…keep your eyes on the ARG website. If a ‘dale pops up that you’re interested in, give me a shout! If you’ve any questions/concerns please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
Thank you for loving Airedales!
Kindest regards,
Kelly Imbody, ARG

Hi Doug,
Thanks for helping out. We are in Oak Ridge. Hope that isn’t too far out of the way for you. In general Fridays or weekends work best. Our daughter is at college so if she needs to be here the visit will have to wait for fall break when she’ll be home the weekend of Oct 12-13. Or we can Include her on a video call at another time.Let us know what works best.
Thanks

Hi Ginny,I wanted to make sure you received my email below. Did you want to try for something this weekend? I will be out of town on the weekend of October 12/13 (I’ll actually be out of town from 10/10 through 10/14).
Just let me know!
Thanks,

Good morning Stormy,I can appreciate the scheduling difficulties…I know how nursing is!
I’ve been “talking” (emailing) Carin as well as the ARG coordinator. We all are of the thinking that you’ll be able to come up with a date. Carin’s schedule is very busy over the next few weeks, however after that things should free up a bit she said.
Since we currently don’t have a ‘dale appropriate for you right now, time is not really of the essence. ARG is manned by a volunteer army and after Jean fell through for the home visit, we had to go to a Plan B.
We try to find our home visit volunteers close geographically to our adoptive families and Carin said that she’d be happy to help. So…we just need to hang there and maybe do some “creative scheduling.”I took note of your additional stipulations attached to a ‘dale. As you know, most if not all of our ‘dales come to rescue because of “problems” be they behavioral or just plain bad manners/lack of training. With your extensive history dog experience and training, hopefully this shouldn’t be a problem providing you’re willing to put forth some effort towards the ‘dale and it’s adjustment to a new environment.
All this being said, let me know if you’re agreeable to continue to work with Carin regarding scheduling of the home visit. I’ll wait to hear from you.
Best,

Hi Stormy. I had emailed Kelly because my schedule is just covered up right now. I’m a counselor & am in the process of moving my practice from one city to another so I’m working at both offices right now. I see nurses so I know how difficult it is to know your schedule in advance. My weekends are covered up with family events. I’ll be completely settled in my new place mid-October & I am planning to block out most hours on fridays until I hear your schedule so we can get this done! I’m very sorry about the delay so as soon as you start getting in your schedule for mid-October let me know! I’ll start blocking out time the week of October 21. Thanks for your patience!Carin

Carin,I will let you know what the rest of the October schedule looks like. Keep in mind I only work 2 days a week, but they are not usually the same day Pat works. You mentioned blocking off Fridays for a possible visit. Pat works every Friday and Saturday, so I don’t know if that would work for you since he wouldn’t be here. His is the only schedule that is always the same.
Thank you,

Ginny Manning phone interview
September 13, 2019Ginny Manning is new to the Airedale breed after having had a Golden named Bailey. The Manning’s have been without a dog for 3-4 years after putting Bailey down after a protracted recovery from a leg amputation due to an invasive tumor. Ginny related that her allergies improved markedly after they no longer had Bailey, and this is when she started researching the breed. She also noted that they had a neighbor whom had 2 ‘dales that would walk them by the house and she “thought they were beautiful dogs.” Both Ginny and her husband are graphic designers. Ginny works 4 10 hour days and is off every Friday. Her husband has a 30 hour work week and is able to work from home “a lot.”
They have approximately ½ acre that has an electronic fence. Ginny stated that they would need to check it as it hasn’t been used in 3-4 years. It comes to within about 4-5 feet from the street and they have a tree line in the back.
Ginny related that her husband did most of the dog care as his schedule is a little more flexible. Bailey developed additional tumors after the amputation, but did relatively well with the amputation itself for about 2 years, when additional tumors began to appear. She had some ear issues/infections that they addressed themselves with regular cleaning without issue. They vetted at the University of Tennessee for the tumor issue.
It is just Ginny and her husband in the home, however she does state that they have 2 children that live in the neighborhood that are like “pseudo grandkids” and come over frequently. These children are 10 and 12 years old and are dog lovers.
They prefer not to have a puppy. 45-65 lbs. is ideal. A female is preferred as Ginny doesn’t want the marking behavior of a male. They would prefer an age range of 3-6 years. They will use a crate for training if needed stating that her brother-in-law currently has their crate. The Manning’s had brought a dog home for a weekend from a local group, but it “challenged” their daughter so they returned the dog.
Vet reference checked out fine. Bailey was kept up to date on all vaccinations. The vet noted “some surgical procedures”.September 14, 2019 at 9:28 am in reply to: Melody & Son, Rob Broquet, Woodruff, SC 29388 jack russell adopted greyhound, did not adopt #23614Spoke with Jim Schulties (864-706-7980), Melody’s personal reference. He said if you came to the door, she would let you know that she was there. Jim stated that Melody was a good dog mom, “a better mom than I am a dad…I have 3. Jim said that “Melody loves her animals.”

Hi Kelly, Samson is my daughter’s dog. We see him seldom as he resides in another house. He is very friendly with others and he was raised with both Allie and Beauty.Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
September 13, 2019 at 5:00 pm in reply to: Melody & Son, Rob Broquet, Woodruff, SC 29388 jack russell adopted greyhound, did not adopt #23608I called Melody and asked her to call her vet to inquire as to why they can’t locate her file for her pit-mix. I also asked her to call Healthpointe Vet Clinic where her son takes the Jack Russell mix to let them know that ARG would be calling. She also said that the dog may possibly be listed under her daughter’s name, Kindra. I asked that Melody call me back when she knew something. I explained to her that we would not be able to approve her for adoption until speaking with a vet.
Melody called. Stated that her vet of record is unable to locate her file. She seemed a bit perturbed by this stating “after all the treatments and money, they’re telling me they don’t have my file anymore.” She stated that the lady she usually dealt with at her vet’s has since retired. She confirmed that she had also called Healthpointe Vet Clinic (864-486-8177) to let them know to expect a call from ARG.
I next called Healthpointe Vet Clinic. The plot thickens!! The dogs are indeed listed under Kindra Broquet. There are 2 dogs listed. Allie, the son’s Jack Russell mix and Sampson, an 8 yr. old pit-mix. Melody never mentioned a 2nd dog…other than hers that she put down almost a year ago. I spoke with Dawson at Healthpointe. Allie is up to date with the exception of bordatella. (Melody assured me she would take care of this as she disclosed this to me in our first conversation of today.) Allie was also seen for a skin issue. Sampson, is due for his vaccinations in October. Sampson was given a rx. for Iverheart heartworm preventative having been on Heartgard prior.
Next, I emailed Melody. I asked the following: To whom does Sampson belong? Does Sampson get along with other dogs? Would Sampson be interacting with her dogs?September 13, 2019 at 10:13 am in reply to: Melody & Son, Rob Broquet, Woodruff, SC 29388 jack russell adopted greyhound, did not adopt #23601Airedale Rescue Group
Melody Broquet phone interview
September 12, 2019Melody is new to the Airedale breed. She stated that she has “researched” the breed and thinks it would be a good fit for her. She previously had a pit-mix she got as a puppy that she put down almost a year ago after battling cancer. Melody’s adult son lives with her and he has a Jack Russell mix, female, spayed 10 years old. Of import is the fact that Melody babysits 2 of her youngest grandchildren, ages 3 and 7 months, 2 days per week. Other grandchildren are ages 5 and 7.
She has a chain link fence. She has not been exposed to Airedales through friends or anything. The Jack Russell gets along with other dogs. It is important to Melody that the adopted ‘dale be good/patient/tolerant of children. She relates that it has taken her this long after putting her pit-mix “Beauty” down to feel that she is ready for another dog. Melody stated that she had medical insurance on Beauty, but opted out of chemo and/or radiation.
She has always had females, she did however say that she would consider a male. She prefers to not have a puppy. The oldest she would consider would be 7 or 8 years old…stating that she wants them around for a few years.
The vet was not helpful. They could not locate her name in their system. I’m thinking that since she is currently not vetting and hasn’t for almost a year, that she has been purged from their system after she put her pit-mix down. I have reached out to her personal reference, but have not as yet heard back.
Melody was somewhat difficult for me to talk with. She didn’t offer up any additional information other than what was asked…no elaboration. Perhaps we just didn’t click. I’ll pursue her personal reference again to see what additional information I can glean and will post.September 9, 2019 at 10:09 am in reply to: Ruth & Jennifer Higgins, Marietta, GA ADT exp, 0 kids, small dog, 6 hr alone #23580Ruth Higgins

Good morning Ruth,I corresponded with Jackie, just to be sure I gave you the right information.
You should apply to ATRA and let them know that you have been approved through us…ARG. Also, give them (ATRA) my contact as well as Jackie’s contact. The ball is in their court at this point. If/when ATRA contacts either myself or Jackie, we’ll provide them with any documentation that they need. ATRA covers a huge geographical area (I used to volunteer with them) so they try to place ‘dales within their area as do all of the Airedale Rescue Groups. Transports within the area often logistical nightmares and add to that another area…they become very difficult, but doable. That being said however, all want the ‘dales to go to the best homes.
Contact ATRA and we’ll take it from there! Here’s our contact information. Feel free to let them know that I volunteered with both them (ATRA) and SOAR.
We’ll do whatever we can.
Sincerely,
Kelly Imbody, ARG

I just wanted to drop you a line to check on Ms. Jeanne coming for the home visit. I didn’t expect her call the week of your letter on August 28 as you mentioned she was out of town. But this new week has almost come to a close, and we have not yet heard from her.
Did we misunderstand? Perhaps she meant she would be out of town THIS week. Please just let us know. We just don’t want to fall between the cracks.Stormy

Jeanne was leaving for a show when I we corresponded on the 28th of August. Then what with the holiday weekend and all…If you don’t hear from her by the end of this coming week, get back with me. You’ve not fallen through the cracks and volunteer organizations often run a little slower sometimes than we’d like!
Keep me posted!

Cassidy Syverson phone interview
September 5, 2019Cassidy has 2 small children, ages 3 & 6. They also currently have a Welsh Terrier, Bailey age 6 and a 1/2. Approximately 6 months ago they adopted Duke from ATRVA. Cassidy relates that they had to surrender Duke back to ATRVA because he “snapped” at both she and one of the children. Duke is currently with Cathy Biersack of ATRVA. She also intimated that he was larger than expected…”he weighed about 80 lbs. He was a big boy.” She feels that perhaps they didn’t give him a fair chance after having spent all of his life in a 10×10 cage…that it was probably too soon for him to come into their active family.
Cassidy is currently a stay at home Mom. She related to me that she “warmed up to the idea of Bailey having a buddy.” Bailey is chipped and they would plan on chipping the ‘dale as well. She states that her children have been around dogs since birth. She related Bailey is good with other dogs, especially when in their home, but gets vocal if the visiting dog gets vocal. She does feel however that Bailey may have some leash aggression.
They are somewhat set on a male as “I’ve been told that two females don’t do well together. It’s hard to get them used to each other.” She expressed interest in Dash. I inquired as to whether she was aware of his sensitivity to loud noises. She was. She admits that their Welshie is somewhat sensitive as well stating “we don’t take her out on 4th of July.” They don’t necessarily give any one type of dog food having tried Beneful and Bil-Jac.I didn’t feel it necessary to contact their vet, as they had been approved by ATRVA in the recent past. I do however have some misgivings regarding Cassidy’s sincerity in wanting another dog and I’m just simply basing that on the fact that she had to “warm up” to the idea. Also, the young ages of her children is of some concern. I think it will have to be a ‘dale that has been socialized around children as no matter how long kids have been around dogs…kids will be kids. I don’t think that Dash is the dog for them in my humble opinion. It will have to be the perfect ‘dale…probably a long wait. It’s not fair to the ‘dale to have him/her be returned to rescue if it can be avoided.

Jennifer Beaumont phone interview
September 3, 2019Cell phone: 207-653-5009
Home phone: 207-839-0406Jennifer is a stay at home Mom and relates that she has an active family…a Senior in HS and a 5th grader. She retired from the military in 2004, spouse continues to work for the State Police. They currently have 2 dogs, a rescue Airedale named Hogan whom they adopted in 2012 and a Pit whom is also a rescue. She related that they have had practice when it comes to dealing with dogs that don’t like loud noises as Daisy, the Pit has this issue. She also states that neither of the dogs like fireworks. Jennifer said that Maine’s weather has maybe just 4 short storms a summer, unlike us here in the Carolinas.
They have 3 acres that has an electric fence. There are 2 other homes on this private road, each with 3 acres. Hogan the Airedale had a stroke approx. a year ago and is doing well with little to no residual effects other than a bit of a change in his gait/walk. Jennifer relates that it is thought his stroke was possibly caused by pesticides…flea/tick meds. Hogan does continue to take medication as a result of the stroke, and is followed very closely by their vet. (see notes in Forums)
They are interested in Dash, but relate that they aren’t/weren’t really looking. “He just spoke to us”. They are not set on a male. I explained/reviewed the process with Jennifer and told her to keep an eye on the fb page as well as our website. I also told her that Cathy Biersack would be in touch with her regarding a home visit. -
