    Good morning Mayi,

I trust you had a nice Thanksgiving.

I am emailing you to let you know that ARG feels that you’re a bit too itinerant at this time to be considered for adoption. This, in addition to the fact that you gave up your most recent dog due to a move does not fit with ARG’s mission in placing Airedales in the best possible homes. Rescues come to be in their position because of “issues” be they owner issues or dog. Consistency and stability of habits and place are of paramount consideration when re-homing a dog.

    Thank you for considering ARG.

    Regards,

    Kelly Imbody, ARG

    Phone Interview: Mayi McCrea
Mayi has quite an extensive dog family history…she’s had a Cocker Spaniel, German Shepard mix, ShiTzu, St. Bernard, Huskey and most recently a Chiuahua. The Chiuahua she had “in my last apartment” for about 2 years but gave it away. She related that her roommate was going into the Navy, so she needed to move and her brother took the dog. Mayi states that she works as an accountant for about 4 hours a day. She would be able to come home for lunch. Mayi stated that her “new apartment would be about 15 minutes from here.” She moved to Nashville in March having lived near Myrtle Beach, SC. She currently rents a one bedroom upstairs apartment but plans on moving in March 2020 to a 2 bedroom. Mayi said that the complex she plans to move to in March 2020 has a dog park. The complex she lives in now has walking paths and a dog park. Her current apartment has a balcony with a railing that is “about hip high…I can lean my elbows on it.” (?) I asked Mayi why she wanted an Airedale. “I like their looks, they look pretty…I’ve just always wanted one.” She related that her friend and she wanted to get dogs as the same time, but that he got his wire hair fox terrier first. She didn’t appear to have thought about who/where she would vet the ‘dale, stating I would probably just go where my friend goes. I asked if she was aware that ‘dales require grooming. She said that she was. I also asked re: her “NO” response on the application about allowing home visits. She said it was a typo.
I spoke with the apartment complex rental agent. She was not aware that Mayi wanted to adopt, but that “a few of us work here.” There is a pet fee. There are breed restrictions against the “aggressive” breeds.
I left a voice mail with her personal reference. Have not heard back.
My gut feeling is that Mayi thinks she’s telling me what I want to hear. She seems immature and I get the idea that she has no idea! I don’t believe half of what she says. Will she give the ‘dale away when she has to move?! She doesn’t seem to have thought this through. She likes ‘dales for the wrong reasons. I wouldn’t pursue this until Mayi seems more settled in a lot of ways.

Sherry can’t wait to get another ‘dale. She has applications in to ATRA, SOAR and ARG. I explained that in most cases a group will only adopt within their region unless there is a ‘dale that they are having difficulty placing. They adopted their ‘dale Molly from ATRA in 2007. She was her husband’s 2nd Airedale. Molly crossed the Rainbow Bridge about 4 months ago. Sherry related that she is currently not working so checks the various websites a couple times a day! They would prefer a 1-3 year old. Would prefer a female but quickly stated that if it was the right dog…sex doesn’t matter. She wouldn’t mind if it had some Oorang…”I like bigger dogs.” She said that right now her main mission is to find a dog.

The reference has been a life long friend of Sherry’s husband. Having just spent a weekend at the beach with them shortly before Molly was put down. He related that Molly received impeccable care. She was a great dog. They are amazing people. Molly was well trained…obedient, playful, not agressive.

Vet referral: Molly was kept up to date on all shots/vaccines. She had a seizure disorder so sometimes per Vet recommendations shots/vaccines were held but on on advice of the Dr.

Email resent today. Voice mails left x2 previously.

    Good morning Sarah!

I know you’re preparing for your new additions to your family…so exciting!

We are going to hold off a bit on your home visit in an effort to allow everyone (all 4 of you!) to get acclimated. If in the future, if you find that you’re still interested in adopting an Airedale, please let us know as we will keep your file.

I hope you understand that this is in the best interest of the ‘dale, which is our sole focus.

If you’ve any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

    Most sincerely,

    Kelly Imbody, ARG

Spoke with personal reference. All good. He has known Sarah’s husband Paul since 1993 and Sarah for the past 12-15 years. He described them as “incredible.” States that he leaves his dog (pit mix) with them all the time. He said they were great with Chewy but that he hadn’t rescued his pit mix when they had Chewy. He said that they are great people & wouldn’t think of any reason not to approve them.

11/18/2019 Spoke with the vet. Good report. They are very familiar with Sarah and ‘dale Chewy that was put down in June. Record is immaculate. Sarah was good with Chewy and he was well-behaved when visiting vet. Dog that Sarah had prior to Chewy was w/o issues/concerns as well.

Sarah stated that she needs to “amend” her application in that they are rescuing 2 labradoodles in a week. She stated that they would still be “open” to an Airedale if one became available. It is she and her husband in the home. A neighborhood park is nearby and this is where they would take the dog for it’s exercise. She stated that the neighborhood is full of dogs….people are always walking their dogs. They just put down their Airedale “Chewy” at the age of 9. He had skin issues among other health issues and eventually couldn’t walk. She related that they adopted Chewy from an abusive owner. Chewy had been in a previous home before the abusive home. They adopted him when he was 4 or 5. Work schedule is flexible enough in that dog would only be alone for 4 hours at most. I asked Sarah if in light of the fact that they were adopting the doodles, did she want to be placed on hold or to pursue the application process. She stated she wanted to proceed. I explained the timeline and the need to speak with her vet & reference.

Personally, I think that to place a ‘dale in this situation at this time is not in the best interest of the ‘dale. I told her as much in that we place the right dog with the right people. I don’t think they are the right people right now. I’ll go ahead with arranging a home visit, but they would be low on my list for placement. Just my opinion.

    Greetings!!!

The plan has changed. We are receiving a 8 yo mix from an elderly neighbor who is relocating and is physically unable to care for the dog.
Thank you so much for what you do to help rehome sweet pups.
We send hugs and best wishes.

    Good morning all!

I’d like you to “virtually” meet each other. Jennifer, the Lange’s will be doing your home visit. They’ll contact you to set up a time that works. We ask that anyone else that lives in the home with you be present as well and of course your wire hair fox terrier, Margo!

This is an easy, casual process. Once I hear from Amy and James, I’ll let you know.

Thank you all for your love of Aireales and I can’t wait to see how things go!

Please contact me with any questions/concerns.

    Kindest regards,

    Kelly Imbody, ARG

Good morning and let me say “Thank you!”

The gal that has submitted an adoption application has already been interviewed over the phone by me. Next step is the home visit. You just basically look over the property and residence. Secure fence, good area for ‘dale to run & play, clean…no hazzards or potential trouble spots. The bottom line is would you leave your ‘dale there and feel comfortable.

Attached are my phone interview notes, her application, and the home visit guide. Don’t necessarily check it off as you talk with her, but just have it there to refer to if necessary.

When you’ve completed the home visit, just email me your notes…even the misspellings!!!!

We ask that you take your ‘dale with you so that you can observe how she and/or her dog(s) interact.

I’ll send the 3 of you the same email introducing you to each other and then you can handle the scheduling of the home visit. Here’s her information:

If you’ve any questions/concerns, please don’t hesitate to text/call/email me. I anxiously look forward to hearing how it went and thank you again soooooo much! ARG could not function and place needy ‘dales in their forever homes without the support and caring of folks like you.

    Most sincerely,

    Kelly Imbody, ARG

PS: If you could send your notes is Word format, that would be great…works better/easier with our site.

Good report from Animal Wellness Center in Athens, GA. Margo (wire hair fox terrier) is up to date on all shots, is rx’d. flea/tick & heartworm medication. There have been no untoward concerns regarding the care of Margo.

Jennifer sounds crazy about her dog!!! She is retired law enforcement and says that she “loves rules”. She states that her dogs have always been well behaved as she works with them regarding training. She has a 4 ½ foot fence, made of wood. Her fox terrier can get her head through, but not her chest. Jennifer states that she had the fence built this was figuring that if “Margo” can see what’s going on on she won’t want to escape. Being that Jennifer is retired, she relates that she’s home a lot and if she goes, Margo goes with her whenever possible. She recently put her Cairn terrier down. She related that she thinks Margo does better with bigger dogs, hence one reason for wanting an Airedale, the other being that she had one as a child. She would prefer a male. Jennifer hand strips her fox terrier. She was unable to tell me the brand of heart worm and/or flea & tick med that she used but stated that she recently changed the flea/tick med because “the side effects related to possible seizures scared me.”
I spoke with her personal reference whom described Jennifer as the dog whisperer. She has known Jennifer for over 20 years and calls her her best friend. She related that whenever she has a question about dogs, she calls Jennifer. She described Jennifer as “amazing.”

Hannah received a good report from her vet, Atlantic Animal Hospital. It was reported that Russo is up to date on all shots/vaccinations. He gets along well with other dogs at day care and Hannah is a very conscientious dog mom.

Home visit completed today per Kelly Imbody. Urban, small 2 bedroom bungalow. Fenced back yard with 8 ft. wood fence on one side & remainder chain link approx. 4.5 ft. Home is lived in, but clean. Wood floors with area rugs. Cozy home. Dog currently has bed in Hannah’s room but usually sleeps on the couch. Russo likes looking out the window. Back yard is somewhat lacking in grass, but she just moved in. Asked about muddy paws…she stated not a problem, she’s used to it. Hannah lives alone. Isn’t ready for a full-time 2nd dog yet, but is interested in fostering. She states that Russo needs a playmate. Russo is 3 yr. old Airedale. He looked to be in good condition. Very friendly and well trained. Hannah used to have Wire Hair Fox Terriers so is very familiar with terrier antics, intelligence and need for firm hand. Discussed fact that often rescues come with issues and that patience and understanding go a long way in helping dog adapt to new surroundings/situation. Issues should be expected. Hannah stated that she understood. Discussed that we would want to exhaust all avenues should persistent issues be a concern vs. re-homing as this is quite stressful in and of itself.
