My name is Kelly Imbody and I’m a volunteer with Airedale Rescue Group servicing TN, GA, AL and the Carolinas.
Your rental clients, Tiara and Marcus Perry at 12524 Old Timber Rd. Charlotte, NC have expressed interest in adopting an Airedale Terrier through our organization. Before proceeding any further, ARG must be assured that the clients have permission from the rental agent/agency to bring a dog into the home permanently.
Please respond to this email as soon as possible so that we know how to proceed.

    Kindest regards,

    Phone Interview: Tiara Perry
    February 10, 2022

Tiara and her husband Marcus are both teachers and work at the same school. They currently rent, home is located on a corner lot. They are not fenced. One neighbor is fenced and there is no fence along the back or the other side. The frontage road is a suburban neighborhood road…the road at the corner is 4 land and looks as though it could potentially be quite busy, especially during the day. Tiara describes her neighborhood as “walkable, with sidewalks and a lot of dogs.”
Tiara and Marcus both work 8 hour days. They had considered poodles and doodles but have shifted their search to Airedales. They have had no previous pets. They are not allergic but do want a “non-shedder”. They have no sex preference but want a puppy.
She stated that when not at home, the dog would be gated in the mud room.
The dog would sleep in a room off the kitchen that has a window and a bed would be in there. When home the dog would have the run of the house with exception of the man cave and their bedroom.

Personal reference: Has known Tiara for 10 years. Personal reference does not have a dog. Describes applicant as “amazing, caring, loving nurturing person.” Relates that applicant would give you the shirt off her back. Describes applicant’s spouse as “faithful; puts a lot of thought and logic into decisions. Is careful and calculated.”

Impression: They would probably be good for and older/mature/trained ‘dale. They are gone 8 hours. They have no dog experience, much less experience with an Airedale. We discussed the rarity of puppies coming into rescue and the expectations of rescue i.e. time, patience, consistency, love and did I say patience?! These folks will need the perfect ‘dale.
I will reach out to the rental agent re: permissibility of a dog.

    Hi Tiara,
My name is Kelly Imbody and I’m with Airedale Rescue Group. I have your application, have texted you, so thought I’d email you as your voice mail is full. If you’d like to pursue this further, please contact me at 219-628-0071 in the early evening.

Good afternoon ! We just completed the home visit for the Hayes. Lovely couple who live in rural Georgia. Quiet street with fenced in yard. The minute we pulled into the drive we knew they were good as they have a big wooden planter with an Airedale on it. David rang the doorbell and told them we could meet them in the back yard as we had both of our dogs with us, they insisted we come inside and take the dogs off their leashes. They loved on both dogs and allowed them the run of their home. They are very much dog people. The new Airedale will even have its own recliner in the family room! We have no concerns and highly recommend them. We were there for an hour and they were constantly petting our dogs. I hope you find them a perfect match soon! They are very eager.

    Home Visit via ZOOM
    Kimberly Frazier
    1/24/22

Kimberly lives in the “boondocks” so she set up a ZOOM home visit…she didn’t have the Facetime app.
Her home is small, 4 rooms on just over an acre. She introduced me to to 2 Shih-Zous, Basil and Maggie. They were very cute. There are dog beds throughout the home. Her back porch is small and has a doggie gate so that Basil and Maggie can be outside on the porch. The front porch is fairly close to the road…a rural 2 lane highway that Kim says can be a little busy in the morning and then again in the afternoon during “rush hour”, though the town of Sparta is about 5 miles away and has one stop light!
She has just over an acre, rural semi-wooded, unfenced. It looks like heaven for a dog. She states that though Basil and Maggie are fine off leash in the back yard, if she brings in a new dog all would be on leash until trustworthiness and training prevail because of the pack mentality!
Her home looked lived in and welcoming. According to her personal reference she is very attentive to her 2 Shih-Zous and brings them into town with her all the time.
I couldn’t see any reason to not approve her.

Holly Schoenfeld agreed to HV per Christina. Christina to make arrangements/intros. No need to speak with personal ref. per Christina.
(personal ref. recently lost her Mother)

Good morning again and thank you for your quick reply!

Suzanne, I have attached the application and my notes from the phone interview. Also, the HV guide for your use should you feel you need it.
I’ll introduce you to the applicant via a shared email. ARG asks that everyone living in the home be present for the home visit if at all possible, and I’ll mention that in the shared email as well. With Covid still rearing it’s ugly head, please follow whatever precautions you both feel comfortable with.
Once you’ve completed your home visit, just jot the highpoints down and email them to me. As you know, the $64,000.00 question we want answered is “would you feel comfortable leaving your Airedale with these folks?”
Please feel free to take your ‘dale with you if you’d like too!
Again, my most sincere thanks for your help Suzanne. I’ll be anxious to hear how it goes. Please reach out to me if you’ve any questions or concerns.

    Good morning Stephanie,
Please accept my apology for not getting back to you sooner. I’m on vacation in FL for 2 months and our rental has had major internet issues. I just got back up online this morning after almost 2 weeks without…argh!!!!
Anyway, I checked ARG’s internal board and your application and home visit are all up to date.
Keep an eye on our website as well as our Facebook site for available/possible ‘dales. We cull through the list of approved applicants on our end. The goal (yours and ours) is to make the perfect placement. Sometimes it take a while. If you see a ‘dale that “speaks to you” reach out!

    Good morning David and Suzanne,
My name is Kelly Imbody and I’m a volunteer with Airedale Rescue Group. I’m hoping you’ll be able and willing to help us with a home visit for some folks in Lutherville, GA.
If this is something you’d be willing to do, please let me know as you’re my “plan A” and I don’t have a plan B! I work closely with Christina Prange, Jackie Cash and Pat Hairston in the placement of our rescued Airedales.
I hoping that you’ll help and I anxiously await your reply.
    Thank you for your consideration.

    Phone Interview: Nancy Hayes
    January 11, 2021

Per Google Earth, Nancy lives in a ranch home. There is a chain link fence noticeable. The neighborhood appears to be rural. One street that ends in a cul-de-sac. Large wooded area extends behind all homes.
She states that her neighborhood is small and just outside of the town of Lutherville. They have one acre of property. Lutherville has one stop light. Nearby is the GA Girl Scout camp.
Nancy is a retired teacher, but continues to sub 1-2 days/week. This would require her to be gone about 8 hours but she stated that she was able to come home at lunch time. Her husband works 4 days per week. They had an Airedale named “Gooch” whom died at the age of 7 in October of 2021. Nancy said the necropsy showed a heart attack. They got Gooch as a puppy from Newpoint Kennels in Plains, GA. They have no family in the area. Gooch went to the “Dog House” for boarding and grooming.
She related that she took Gooch to school with her. They took him on trips.
They currently have a deposit on a puppy with the same breeder with anticipation of getting a puppy around May 2022. She did state however that the breeder…Frank Freeman of Newpoint Kennels, Plains, GA is in his 80’s; has just 2 dogs left so she’s not sure if a litter will happen. She has no sex preference but would prefer a young adult…age 1-3.
I told Nancy that I’d go ahead and make arrangements for a HV, but that if/when she found out that they were going to get a puppy to please let me know. She agreed.

    Personal reference:
Has known applicant for 13 years. Personal reference has had an Airedale in the past but now has a Standard Poodle. In talking with this gal I got the impression that she was lazy. She said she had offered her dog to Nancy after they lost Gooch, but Nancy declined. She said that Gooch started out “rough”. Jumping etc. Gooch loved everyone. They took him to obedience training. The Hayes used positive, firm reinforcement. Reference said she would love to be adopted by Nancy. (I can see why as this reference doesn’t have the motivation to work with the dog…who would give their dog away?!!!?)

    Vet:
The vet tech I spoke with didn’t know Gooch, but she put me on hold and asked the other techs about the Hayes. She said that all of the techs said that “they took good care of Gooch.” They were “very good owners.” He was up to date on everything. No red flags to report.

    Hi Christina,
I have internet for the time being! I’m not sure where we left this but Georgia will/does need a home visit and if you want to contact Holly that would be great or forward her contact to me…whatever you prefer. Georgia’s personal reference had a death in the family and Georgia requested that I wait a couple of weeks to contact this gal…it was her mother that passed away. So I though I’d wait until the 1st of the month to chat with her. Let me know if you think the HV should wait until I’ve spoken with the personal reference or if we can get the HV ball rolling now. Thanks Christina!

    Hi Kel,
I think this person is ready for a HV, right. She lives near an adopter named Hollie Schoenfeld who has adopted 2 dale’s from us over the years. Do you want me to ask Hollie if she can HV. Christina

Spoke with Vet’s staff. Cockapoo was not euthanized with them. Applicant is regular client with 14 y/o cat. Cat is up to date on all vaccines. Good client. No red flags on chart.

**Will wait per applicants request to speak with personal reference d/t death in family…(shooting for end of month.)

Georgia and her husband live in a Townhouse. The neighborhood consists of about 20 townhomes, has a small dog walking area. The neighborhood backs up to a residential neighborhood consisting of single dwellings and this she said is where she would walk a dog as she and her husband walk here as well. Peachtree St. she said is very busy and she stated that she would never walk a dog out by this street as the “cars whizz by.” They have family close by and walk the back way vs out by Peachtree St. There is no fence though she does say that their neighborhood is gated.
Georgia’s parents live about 5 min. away. Their 30 yr. old son may be moving back in with them…he is on the Autism spectrum and works until about 11 am each day. Georgia works part time as an RN…2 days one week, 3 days the next. She also has a gentleman that takes care of her cat when needed and would use him to take care of a dog if they had to leave it.
Georgia’s husband also works part time.
Their 1 dog was an Airedale…put down at age 8 due to kidney cancer. Since then they have had: Giant Schnauzer, Yorkie, and most recently a Cockapoo. She states they aren’t in a hurry. Want it to be a good fit. Georgia relates that she would prefer to rescue and that her husband said the only rescue he would consider would be an Airedale.
They would prefer a younger dog…puppy to a “couple of years”. Though she stated on the application no sex preference she did say maybe a “female, because aren’t they smaller?” She did state that temperament would be most important. They have a 14 y/o cat. Also an 8 mo. old grandson, though not certain how often they see him.
They have never rescued before. I explained that from ARG’s end, placement goal is the “perfect fit/family.”

    Hey Christina,

I met Anne Daletski yesterday. She’s delightful and would be a wonderful adopter of a dale in need. She’s very knowledgeable about the breed. She has a psychology background and has actually worked with dogs with problems and been able to resolve those problems through training. Her set up is great with a large fenced yard and a big front porch. Heaven for a dog. The house is great and Buddy is clearly a valued member of the family.

Possibly the only thing I really need to tell you to get her approved is that her dog Buddy was diagnosed with cancer 9 months ago at age 11. The treatment option was grueling and I wouldn’t have put an older dale through it either. The vet said if they did the aggressive treatment, Buddy might live 6-9 months. They opted for holistic treatment at great expense to them. And the result is Buddy is living his best life as a senior dog. He’s affectionate, active, able to defend the palace while making friends with the Fed Ex driver. Buddy is such a sweet old man. I loved meeting him. He isn’t on death’s door – he’s such a happy dale. And it has been 9 months.

Thanks for sending me on a visit. I really, really enjoyed it. I’m happy to help in other ways – we are so appreciative of the dogs we’ve gotten from rescue groups. Pic of Eddie attached.

    Merry Christmas!

    Phone Interview: Melissa Woolf
    11/16/2021

Melissa and her husband live in a suburban, heavily wooded area. The home is brick and the backyard has a wrought iron fence. (per Google Earth)
They currently have a 1 ½ year old mixed breed female, named Annie. They put their Wheaton Terrier down about a year ago. They have also had a Schnoodle and 2 Lhaso Apsos in the past. They want a bigger dog and are very interested in the Airedale. Melissa noted that she has rescued in the past, most recently their current dog, Annie. Annie goes to Doggie Day Care once a week, was in several foster homes before they adopted/rescued her. Apparently Annie was hit by a car, and spent time in multiple foster homes during recovery. She relates that she is very friendly with other dogs. Annie would like a playmate.
Melissa works from home and will not be returning to the office. Her husband travels for his job throughout the Carolinas and Va.
Preferences are 3 years or younger. No sex preference. She is not considering other breeds. She has contacted ATRA as she stated that they seem to have dogs, whereas ARG…not so much. She expressed a desire to speak with the foster of any dog that they would be considered for.

Vet: Annie is up to date on all vaccinations. There is nothing untoward noted on her chart.
Personal reference: Has known Melissa for 4-5 years. Has 2 mixed breed himself. States Annie is well adjusted and playful. Follows basic commands and is very friendly. He could not comment on training/discipline habits of Melissa, but did state that Annie seems to mind.
