01/16/19: Offered Erin Laker, the 8-wk-old pup. She and Jamie declined. But keep them in mind in the future.
Vet Instructions
1. Evaluate general health of Airedale and make recommendations for any needed treatment, medications, x-rays, etc. (ARG representative will consult with vet staff on any recommendations.)
2. Perform all recommended vaccinations, including flu vaccine (if the state has reported cases).
3. Test and treat for parasites, including fleas/ticks. Begin flea/tick preventative.
4. Test for heart worms.
a. If positive, try to determine how strongly positive. (See Heart Worm Treatment Protocol.)
b. If negative, begin treatment with heart worm preventative.
5. Insert microchip registered to ARG. (See Microchip Protocol.)
6. Spay/neuter if Airedale is intact. (If male is under age 13 months, hold off on neuter. For female, it is best to wait to spay before first heat cycle.)
7. Bathe and/or groom (if needed).
8. Evaluate interaction with other dogs (and cats if it can be done safely).(Request from Barbara Yager a collar with ARG ID and leash to be mailed to vet’s office or foster parent.)

January 21, 2019 at 3:59 pm in reply to: Private: Webster, fka George, 4-y-o, Training w Cindy Green #2205401/21/19 From Cindy Green:
Morning Jackie,
It’s been about 1.5 days with this handsome boy. I see more good stuff than bad stuff. In a nut shell I think he is a dog that primarily lived and interacted with the world in an excited state of mind. He does not know another way to process the world. This could be a result of continual unchecked rough play with his house mate/dog and constantly running a fence line or back and forth on a chain.
I think his dog reactivity is excitement and fear not aggression. At the same time that he charges forward and barks at the site of another dog he also pants and whines. When he is excited around people he will put mouth on as a means of interacting. He will also try to control a situation with his mouth such as when he is trying to avoid being handled on leash. But I feel pretty confident he does not bite with intent.
Underneath a few bad layers is a really sweet, gentle natured dog. He is very attentive when I get him calm. He has obviously received some training along the way that surfaces when he is calm. He loves playing ball and will bring it back and drop it at your feet. He is as happy about an ear rub as a treat for reward. He is great about being handled and loves being brushed. He was perfectly good boy when I brushed the mats out of his beard.
After spending about an hour yesterday working with him on the transitional leash to get him in a calm state of mind, we had a very nice pack walk with my two dogs.
I have reviewed his vet records . There is a discrepancy in his birthdate. The record from his original owner reports Oct. 2014 and the other vet records report Nov. 2013. I am going to assume the original date is correct and thus he is just over 4 years. Hopefully you will hear back on his last heartworm treatment and flea and tick control as I want to keep on schedule with those preventatives.
I am going to enter him in my Vets record system as George-Webster to help keep this string of records connected. And of course you know southerners love their two part first names. I also think George Webster is a southern gentleman in the making.
Did not hear back from the person that sent along a collar and leash so will hold on to that for now. He actually arrived with two collars. One had his rabies tag from original owners vet.All for now,

01/21/19: I know I updated this post to include my interview notes with Kelsey, but I apparently didn’t hit submit, so those notes are lost.
Kelsey and her husband both are going to be deployed this summer. Her husband is active duty and will leave in May or June and she is in the Reserves and will leave in June. Their 2-y-o boy will be cared for by grandparents – I believe the husband’s parents.
They love Molly and she is a wonderful dog – sweet, calm, great with their 2-y-o child, and very smart. She has had no real obedience training, but she is not destructive – except for her toys and digging – and is accustomed to staying in a crate for most of the day.
Molly is not spayed and is in her first heat so she must be spayed as soon as that’s done. Kelsey said she thought they could afford to get her spayed.
Pat Hairston was interested in her for Canines for Service and I told Kelsey about that.
Kelsey texted me 01/20/19 pm: “I’m sorry to bother you. I’m not sure what to do because my husband will not relinquish his rights to the dog. I know I signed the form, but he does not agree. I’m not sure what to do.” I responded that they have to work this out and asked what they’ll do about Molly. She replied that “he will make the necessary arrangements,” and apologized for taking up my time.
When I spoke to her on Sunday morning, I asked if her 2-y-o was sleeping bc she finally had time to call. She replied that his father had him. Made me wonder if they’re separated and he is using Molly as a pawn.
Pat suggested dogsondeployment.org and I passed along that info to Kelsey. She was grateful.
Moving this to “Waffling Parents.”

Subject: Jade Transport – Thursday, January 17, 2019First, thank you to everyone for volunteering your time and gas at such short notice to get Jade to her new family. This is bound to be stressful for Jade, so please do not bring any 4-legged friends with you. She would appreciate a small treat or two and some water. Be sure to bring potty clean-up bags.
Check in with the person you’re meeting as you get close to your meeting spot, particularly if you are running late. Park away from the most crowded area so that you’ll be easily found.
Please keep in mind that Jade will be confused and may be anxious. We always advise that you close the car door on the end of her leash so that before you even open the door to let her out, you have a hand on that leash. (If you choose to use the crate, secure the end of the leash outside of the door of the crate.
Everyone, please check to make sure I’ve entered your phone number correctly:
