04/17/19: Tammy’s email to Josh at petpals.
Hello Josh and Jackie – below are some examples to describe Kate’s behavior –The trainer that we worked with basically said that she has confidence problems, and doesn’t know that she is a dog. She is super sweet and lovable to humans. Not so much to other dogs. We use positive reinforcement, treats and telling her that she is a good dog and various exercises to build her confidence that Nikki gave us. Use commands of this way to follow and directional changes, open and close door to get her to wait. Leash – no success at all. She has a martindale collar, but still will pull and choke herself. Have tried a harness as well.
Aggressive towards other dog – examples:
a. My son has a 6 year old German Shepard female, named Sasha, who he uses to help his friends train dogs. She if very gentle and aggression adverse. Kate has bitten her twice. Once, the first time they met unprovoked. And the second time unprovoked. She no longer wants to come in the house.
b. Dogpark – my son and I took Sasha and Kate to the dog park – Kate started growing at Tula and my son picked her up (front legs holding her calmly and telling her to be nice) She calmed down. He put her down, and she growled again at Tula, so he repeated. She calmed down. Took her in the dog park, on leash. He had to do that one more time. Then she was okay, completely disinterested in the other dogs that were playing in a pack. She ran the parameter of the fence smelling and hunting. She did not bother any of the other dogs though.
b. My daughter had a black lab named Tula – who came to live with us with no time to introduce the two. Tula was 1 year old. We kept them separated, Tula upstairs and Kate downstairs (Kate will not go up the stairs) as we tried to work with them and get them acquainted. Kate bit Tula unprovoked the first time. They got to a point where they would rough house, but we would not leave them alone. We were working with a trainer, who after working with Kate asked us to bring Tula down. Kate immediately attacked her unprovoked. The next time I believe they were rough housing and Tula nipped at the back of Kate’s legs, and Kate attacked her. My daughter threw (out of reaction) the ottoman at Kate to get her off of Tula. She had her by the neck. My daughter ended up relinquishing Tula to a lab rescue group. She and my granddaughter came to live with us for about a year. She realized she could not afford a home with a fenced back yard, and Tula needed that.
c. Kate is a runner. We have worked with her opening and closing the door, but still she is a runner. If we don’t chase her she returns in 5-10 mins. Like, oh hey, that was fun. She did run while bringing groceries in. A neighbor and her daughter were walking four dogs. Kate circled and tried to bite them. Two of the dogs had muzzles, thank goodness, my daughter caught her and carried her back in the house before she bit them.
She gets into a “crazy mode” or better described as hyper focused and nothing is going to distract her attention, when engaged with other dogs, or hunting. We have millions of squirrels in the back yard, a big back yard and she loves to run and chase them. She focused on a rabbit that was under out deck, clawed the wood, tried to bite/chew it for about 30 minutes. Could not get her redirected. Finally got her in the house and she was so wired that I decided to keep her in the kennel that day. Usually she is free in the house. She has a dog bed, kennel and loves to lounge on the couch. Last year while on vacation, a toy got stuck under our leather couch. She clawed the back to open to the wood frame, then chewed through the wood to get to the toy. Again, super focused.
She is terrified of storms, lighting and thunder. We have a thunder shirt, and tried CBD oil. That just ampted her up. The vet prescribed Trazadone. It helps if we give it to her before the storms start. IF not, she is just amped up, shakes, pants like crazy.
The trainer Nikki of Dog Speak, works with a trainer at Greymont Kennels. Who offered to work with her as well. I took her for an evaluation to see if she could attend doggy daycare so that we can enlist extra training and get her acclimated to being around other dogs with out the aggressiveness. The trainer called me with in 30 minutes and said, she is not the worst dog that they have had, however she failed the assessment. The presented a very old, small gentle dog to Kate. Kate showed bullying behavior, so they separated them. Tried again, and Kate attached the dog. The trainer said it took him about 5 minutes to get her off of the dog.
She loves humans and kids, my granddaughter lays on her dog bed with her in the mornings before school. When Kate has enough of anything, to many people or too much of a kid, and needs her space she will go get in her kennel. Or if a new situation or people, will run to me for assurance.
She loves to go for car rides. Her foster mom used to take her to the care center to visit her mom and other residents daily. She loves her squeaky toys and roughhousing play where she mouths my arms everyday. and we toss her toys. She is not in this for a long time. When she is done, she is done. I think that she needs a very consistent routine, with out a lot of change. That seems to through her off.
I hope that this helps give you a little bit of background to help get her the training and right family that she

04/15/19: In conversation with Barbara Calhoon this weekend, found out that Macy had died of kidney disease.
What happened with Macy
She developed kidney problems and apparently severe kidney problems and went down very fast and died. The vet said that there wasn’t much you could do. They got her when she was about 7; was 8-1/2 when she died. They had her checked out and had been to the vet. She was on special food and taking meds. She took her in one Sat morning and the vet said then that it was a probably a quality of life issue and they should consider euthanizing. But Barbara took hr home and she died Sunday evening.
Before they got her, she was being fed Vienna sausages.
Macy allergic to beef. So changed Pookah’s food. For some reason Bill decided to change back to beef after Macy was gone. Barbara didn’t think much about it and had a bag of salmon at grocery. She ate sometimes and sometimes she wouldn’t eat. Changed totally to old food. She just wouldn’t eat.
Puca slipped out the front door and disappeared. February 14 she’s been gone.April 15, 2019 at 3:57 pm in reply to: Katee (fka Hepburn, fka Frannie) ~ 5 y-o – Adopted by Beutells_moved to Florida 2022 #22647Dog Guy Josh – needs to meet and assess; rescue they give a discount

04/11/19: First message to info@AiredaleRescueGroup.com
Hello! My name is Stephanie Ravegum and I live in Colorado. I received word this morning that my 98 year old grandmother has fallen and fractured her neck. She has a 10 year old Airedale, Lucy, who I am looking to find a long-term foster or re-home. I am reluctant to look locally as she lives in a military town in North Carolina, and I know that animals tend to be transient in that community. I am looking for a stable place for Lucy to see how this plays out. I was in the animal rescue industry years ago, I know the importance of knowing the breed. She is a high energy girl, loves to run, adores people and other dogs. We have entertained the thought of keeping her, but right now, we have a 17 year old lab, a 14 year old lab and a 2 year old lab. I don’t think it would be fair to introduce a new dog to our oldest dog.
Could you please advise me on how your rescue works? If you are even able or willing to foster her…she is current on all vaccinations, spayed and groomed.
Thank you so much in advance for any advice or consideration.
All the best,
Stephanie Ravegum

Banjo is acting like a puppy. He’s so social.
He’s not that cute.
Look into Airedale’s eyes. They know exactly what you’re saying.
So sweet. Sit, down. Good dog. He thinks he’s a lap dog.
At the vet for a bath and wanted to go over the stuff with her vet. Dr in TN wanted her to come back in 6 weeks for recheck of urinalysis. Check 1 wk. In great shape.
No resource guarding with a bone, but
Growled at her trying to get Frosty Paws
Very playful! Loves tennis balls and plays with them by himself.
65 lbs
Short and stumpy
Ok on leash
Her husband loves him and keeps asking if they can keep him
Skin looking better, itching a little
Want bath 2x a week
Nails are not excessively long
He is a runner.
Vet scanned the tag and it’s a 602In photo his ears are hound-looking and his snout is kind of pointed.
The photos of his teeth are horrible!

04/12/19: FB Messenger:
I’m at the point where at just don’t know what I can do- Charlie is extremely jealous of Jackson- my son. We created a playroom for Jackson and Charlie has urinated on the floor and all over his toys so many times that I’ve had to replace everything twice and now we are in process of ripping out the carpet and laying vinyl hardwood because it’s waterproof and our current situation is not sanitary. While in process Charlie peed all over the stack of wood making it unusable. Then he peed all over the underlayment and it went UNDER the existing hardwood floor we have laid so we ripped it all back out and are having to start again. He goes to Camp Woof on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Saturday and Sunday. I hike with him 4+ miles twice a week. He’s acting out because of my kid and I’m scared. And frankly I’m going broke trying to keep my home sanitary- we paid for a trainer to come in in the beginning to work with Charlie while Jackson was brand new, but I can’t afford that again- I just don’t know if I can have him around my child when he obviously has so much resentment.
