Teresa wants to meet Terry Church.
She has had pups before and they were going to breed her and the male died. She’s between 3-5. Her registration papers are in the man’s home. Fine with mother’s small dog. She’s been living alone for a while, just not around anyone.
June 7, 2019 at 5:56 pm in reply to: Private: Webster, fka George, 4-y-o, Training w Cindy Green #2294805/27/19: Per Cindy:
George has shown no interest in jumping a fence. My previous concern was the invisible fence . I am sure he would go through that on impulse to chase a ball – his or someone else’s.
I know Corally as she participates in HWA group for which I am a member. And yes she is very particular about who gets one of her dogs.
George is currently a fit and trim 65 pounds of muscle from lots of exercise. He would be fine with any dog as long as people make the introduction slow . I generally do not allow any free for all for two weeks. George fixates on all things new. Once he processes the newness he is fine providing the other dog is also respectful.06/06/19: Per Cindy:
George is doing well in his routine. He is such a happy-go -lucky dog when we stick to the plan. His latest game is “find the ball”. I can hide his ball in what I think is the such a difficult place outdoors ( completely out of sight and sometimes covered by other objects to block the scent) . I say “ find the ball” and in a matter of minutes he has located the ball and is ready fora game of fetch. He still has very intense reactions to all things new and different. He will struggle with adjusting to a new home but with time and consistency He will make someone a fabulous companion.06/07/19: Per Cindy:
Jackie,
Jane sounds like a real possibility! George would adjust to the JRT’s if she is willing to take it slow and give him time to process and “let it go”.
I suspect he would be fabulous at Barn Hunt. He amazes me with “find it” games.
He will bark intensely at strangers but it is out of pure excitement. His size and intense barking are very imposing so would make a good watch dog for a single person. No aggression in this dog just all show.
Let me know if she has questions or would like to speak with me.Cindy
06/06/19: James responded to above that when he didn’t hear back he assumed he was off the list.
I sent him another email:
Chris, I apologize for not following up. I can blame my age, my level of distraction, and the fact that we’ve been very busy with Airedales. Still, I should have responded. Our concern, as we’ve mentioned, is the fact that your Airedale would be home alone much of the day. It seems that so many of the ones we’ve gotten lately are dogs that have not gotten the attention they should have (thus, they’re in rescue), and we have concentrated on finding homes where the people are home most of the day. So many people work from home these days, we’ve had lots of alternatives. But the 3 Airedales we have right now, George, Banjo, and Carrie, all need someone to be home.
How wonderful that your children get to spend the summer in Japan! Wow! What a great experience for them.
We will be happy to keep your application active, and you are approved for adoption for the right Airedale. Just let us know when.
JackieHe responded: Thank you.
06/06/19: Hi, Chris. Just wanted to touch base and see where you are in the process of moving to a new home. We have 3 dogs in rescue right now and another coming in; we never know when the next one will come to us.
I guess your children are home for the summer, maybe a good time to acclimate a dog to your family.
Let us know whether you’re ready to proceed.

Jackie,Thank you so much for your email and I apologize that I was out of the country and unable to immediately respond. I have looked at both of the dogs on the site and they both look like they could be potential fits for my family.
I’m in a little bit of a holding pattern however because I am in the process of buying a new home and selling my existing home. I’m not sure what this means for my home visit (inspection) and if that will need to be done on the new property. However, I am looking at moving to a home with a larger yard and more room in general. In the meantime I need to get through the process of selling my home and moving so that I can dedicate the time needed to give a new family member the necessary attention.
I hope that this doesn’t mean I lose my spot in line, but if it does I completely understand as I want these dogs to go to their “forever home” as soon as they get a chance. Please let me know your thoughts and/or concerns. Thank you again for your time and thank you for volunteering to help the animals.

Hi, James. I work with Sue Taylor and I talked to her about offering Chief or Banjo to you, but it has taken me longer than I intended. Please take a look at our site and read about them and see if you think either would fit with your family. Our primary concern is the length of time your Airedale would be alone during the day while you’re at work and your sons are at school. You’ve said that you could come home at lunch to walk your dog or at least let it outside for a while. Do you think you could take some vacation days when you get a dog so that you can let it adjust to you and your sons before leaving it along for several hours?Thank you for considering a rescued Airedale. We look forward to placing the right one with you.

Don’t know when they’ll be ready. Good applicants.
06/06/19: I met Wyatt/Tesla yesterday. What a sweetheart he is. I met his dad at Overton Park and when I got there, Dad was 30 feet away from his vehicle talking on the phone. Wyatt was in the car and was patiently waiting for his dad. A woman with 3 dogs got into the car parked in front of his, and Tesla/Wyatt didn’t make a sound. He’s very easy-going and friendly. He was a bit nervous, but he’s rarely left his back yard except to chase after a cat. He’s underweight; you can feel every rib. He’s a Sheepie, very curly, but very handsome.
I wish I could have taken him home.

June 6, 2019 at 1:48 pm in reply to: Private: Krishna & Yagnesh Chapatwala, Roswell, GA 30075 #2292206/06/19: Kelly Geren-Imbody interviewed Krishna. Her report:
Airedale Rescue Application Review
Krishna Chapatwala
857-285-3287
desi80s@yahoo.comSafety: Fence is wood posts with “wire” in between posts. It isn’t a wood slatted/plank fence. Krishna related that the dog would be able to see through it. Fence is 5’ according to applicant.
Door from dining room accesses back yard.
Awareness: There was a contradiction noted in the application regarding hypoallergenic status. Neither applicant is allergic. Krishna is a Chef by trade, working out of her home often as she caters. She feels that it is important to have a short-haired, hypoallergenic dog because of the need to maintain a clean food prep area/environment.
Care: She does not plan to rely on friends for care of dog when vacationing etc. She related that she has talked to a few friends and has “researched” a couple of local day care/boarding facilities. She as yet has not pursued a Vet. Krishna states that on Monday she works away from home for about 4 hours. On Tuesday she is gone 8-9 hours. I mentioned that digging could be a potential problem…her yard is very small. She stated that it “wouldn’t be a problem.”
Preferences: Although her application states that she is interested in Banjo, she further related that after looking at Banjo, she saw George and feels he would “be a better fit.” I asked her what she saw in George that led her to prefer him over Banjo. She stated that George seemed calmer and that Banjo could be a counter surfer based on his profile. Counter surfing would be an issue considering what she does for a living. Conclusion: The fence type concerns me, though this can be better assessed with the home visit. Tuesday looks like a long day. Not unmanageable by any means, just need to make sure dog is good to hold his/her bladder. She would prefer a dog not over 6 years old; “6 might be pushing it.” She has no preference as to male or female. She had 3 questions that I am deferring to you Jackie as I didn’t want to give her the wrong information, though I think I know the answers to the 1st two:
1. Is it possible to “meet the dog ahead of time and just hang out for a while?”
2. Is it possible to have the dog “for a few days to see if it’s a good fit?”
3. Is George still available, or has he been spoken for?The 1st two questions gave me pause. It’s not like they come with a warranty. To me it would be more traumatic for the ‘dale to have a trial period…just one more change in their lives that can be avoided possibly. She on one hand seems very enthusiastic about getting a ‘dale, but on the other doesn’t seem as invested as I’d like. Being a devil’s advocate however, maybe she is just really clueless as to how Rescue works. I told her I would forward my notes on to you and that once I received the answers to the above 3 questions, I’d get back to her. She wanted to know what the next steps are. I told her that unless there were additional questions or concerns (something that would send up a red flag) that she would be contacted to schedule a home visit.
I cannot contact her reference until the evening due to work schedule. Once I talk with her reference, I’ll forward that information on to you.
I’ll await your answers to the 3 questions above!
Let me know if you need additional information or if I’ve missed something.Best,
Kelly06/05/19: Over the last few days, Katherine has expressed doubt about her ability to keep Odie because he is so wild. (She wants to wait to sign the contract and pay for him because she doesn’t know if it will work out.
Pat Hairston recommended a trainer she has worked with for 16 years, Beth Ensign bethensign@gmail.com, and ARG has agreed to pay Beth $100 for initial consultation and $140 for classes thereafter.
Connected Katherine and Beth via email.

The vet thinks Kate is a great dog, was in great shape, and healthy.
The scar down her right side is from an injury, the vet believes. It was stitched rather than staples and would not be a typical surgical site for any internal problems. She suspects, it was a cut where Kate maybe got caught on something.

Thanks we will put you on the list for August for an outgoing playmate.Until then you may want to address the space under the front facing fences and the gate. Although these are small items, new dogs tend to test all elements of the new yard. These would be weak spots for a sassy Airedale.
Have a great day.

My apologies for just now getting back to you. I was cleaning out my inbox and noticed this was sitting in my outbox/drafts. It apparently didn’t send when I was at the airport last Tuesday.
Yes- I think at this point we would like to be considered for the August timeframe when I will actually be living in Charlotte.
As for the type of dog- definitely one that may be a bit more active and not as shy at first. We were a little worried to bring Swish (the Newfoundland) out when Casey was in the background. He’s super friendly but we definitely want a dog that can be alongside him and be comfortable since he will be 200+ lbs. We would like to be considered for dogs under 2 years of age as well.
Thank you again for everything. I really appreciate your time and all your help.
Talk soon,

Awareness
C. AWARENESS
C 1. Why do you want to adopt an Airedale?
We are 100% terrier people and have always admired the personality and looks of airedales.
C 2. What do you know about Airedales? What qualities appeal to you?
We are used to wire fox terriers (have had 5 over the past 20 years), and admire the slightly “lower key” friendly personalities of airedales (in comparison to wft’s). As you know, wft’s are VERY energetic and intelligent – we do love that airedales have the same intelligent terrier quality and witty personalities with a larger terrier stature.
C 3. Is this your first Airedale Terrier?
a. Yes
C 4. Are you aware that Airedales need to be clipped at least 3 times a year?
a. Yes
C 5. Is anyone in your household, including frequent visitors, allergic to dogs?
b. No
C 6. Are you aware that Airedales often pose a clean house challenge with muddy footprints and sloppy wet beards?
a. Yes
C 7. What kind of temperament would best suit your household? Check all that apply.
a. Energetic, always on the go , b. Sweet and cuddly , c. Couch potato 80% of the time , d. Loves to walk, run or hike, f. Protector of the house – barks loud , g. Patient and tolerant of kids , h. Able to be one of several animals in our home or in our friend’s homes, j. Other (please describe below)
C 7. j. If “Other” please describe
Needs to be willing to be adored and mothered by our current wft. A non-assertive/alpha dog temperament is preferrered since our current bitch thinks of herself as the alpha with others.
Care
D. CARE
D 1. What is the name of the person who will be the primary caregiver?
Christine
D 2. Do you or do other caregivers have any physical limitations that would make it difficult or impossible to run after a loose dog or pick up a 50-70 pound dog? Explain.
No
D 3. How many hours will the dog be alone daily?
None for most days (we work from home). Some days I have to go to the store for an hour or two, and sometimes we go out to dinner or spend 3-4 hours out on weekends, but for the most part we are homebodies.
D 4. Describe how the dog would spend a typical workday or weekend at your home. Where will the dog stay when you are at work or out of the house?
Since we are home all of the time, and I am the primary caregiver, our dogs have always spent the day following me around the house. On weekdays, we alternate turns for each dog to go to the bus stop (since bringing more than one can be a bit hectic) – our dogs have always looked at bus stop duty as a very important part of the day and love to socialize with the kids at the stop and see other dogs, cars, etc.
D 5. What areas of your home or yard are off limits for your dog?
No off limits areas normally. We are currently rebuilding our deck so of course the dog is not allowed near the construction site.
D 6. What activities would you like to share with your dog?
My dogs are my shadow. They do everything with me all day long. We want to be with each other. We go on walks and hikes, vacations, etc. with our dogs. They are right up there with our human kids.
D 7. What will you do if your dog gets lost?
Social media seems to be a great help though I haven’t lost a dog in over 20 years. Lots of driving around and talking to people, shelters, vets, etc. Flyers. Looking where we last saw the dog.
D 8. What dollar amount will it cost annually to take care of your dog?
We currently have one senior that costs at least $1000 a year at the vet – they were a lot cheaper when they were younger! I’d estimate another $1000 in food, toys, etc.
D 9. Will you obedience train your dog?
c. Informally yourself
D 10. Will you use a dog crate?
b. No
D 10. a. If yes, describe the times or reasons you would use a crate.
I put down “no”, but if the dog needs crate training initially, we would of course help him along with it using a crate if that’s what he’s accustomed to. Our goal would be to not have to use a crate other than for a place of security/r&r for the dog and only if he wants to use it.
D 11. Will household members support and care for the dog?
a. Yes (please describe how below)
D 11. a. Describe their support for the dog
Husband would help with training/feeding. Husband also grooms all of our wire fox terriers (we only have one left now) because he is better at it than any groomer we can find. Kids excersise and play with the dogs.
D 12. How will your dog be taken care of when you are away for business or vacation?
a. Cared for by household member
D 13. Is there a spot already reserved in your home for an Airedale?
e. Kitchen/laundry room
D 13. g. If “Other” please describe
BACK TO D 12: There was no option for “we take our dogs on vacation with us” but that’s what we do. In 20 years we have never left our dogs with anyone and always find vacations that allow for our dogs. When we had 4 wft’s we brought them all along too!
Pets
E. PETS
E 1. Do you currently own or live with any other animals?
a. Yes
E 2. Please describe your pets, including the type of animal(s), are they spayed/neutered, and their ages.
Layla, wire fox terrier, 11 – scheduled to be spayed in July. She is a typical senior WFT and loves on us and was born and raised in this house with her brother/littermate Sam (RIP). She is a dog’s dog and is lost without a pack. She needs to be around other dogs to be whole.
E 3. Do your pets get along with other dogs?
a. Yes
E 4. Are your animals up to date on their shots and vaccines?
a. Yes
E 4. i. Please provide details of your animals’ shots and vaccines and any medical conditions they may have.
Layla is current on vaccines, but has a mammory tumor that will be removed at the same time as spay. She also has some early arthritis.
E 5. Name, address and phone number of your current vet.
Dr. Adam Currier

I give my consent to Airedale Rescue Group to contact my Veterinarian to verify the care of my household animals, past and present.
Yes
E 6. Name and phone number of your current groomer.
None. We have always groomed all of our wire fox terriers ourselves at least 3x a year.
I give my consent to Airedale Rescue Group to contact my groomer to verify the care of my household animals, past and present
Yes
E 7. What brand of dog food do you feed?
Homemade food based on dietary/allergy needs. Sometimes supplement with Acana
E 8. What brand of heartworm preventative do you use; how often do you use it?
Heartguard, monthly
E 9. What brand of flea and tick preventative do you use; how often do you use it?
Frontline, only in warm weather.
E 10. Do you give your dog(s) any vitamins or supplements? If yes, please explain.
Yes, Pet Tabs, Omega 3 Oils, Calcium (all to balance out diet since we home cook most of the food here)
milk thistle (only after medications).
E 11. Have you ever had a dog that ran away or escaped from your home or car? Please explain.
20 years ago I stupidly brought our dog Norm to work with me and someone let him out of the gate and and got hit by a car and killed. Took only once for us to learn and it hasn’t happened again.
E 12. Have you ever had a dog hit by a car? Explain.
See E11
E 13. Under what circumstances would you give up a dog?
He/she would have to be irreparably violent and vicious (think Cujo)
E 14. Have you ever had to give up a dog? Please explain your experience.
No

G 1. If you have any questions or comments for us please tell us here.
The most important thing is to find a dog that has the right disposition for a terrier-forward family as us. Our dogs are treated as well as our kids but only because they are well behaved due to our extensive training and their good dispositions. There is no rush here. I would rather wait 6 months to get a happy fit, then 1 month to get a dog that would not be happy here. A bad match is not fair to the dog nor to our kids/dog.
