I very much support Steve as a parent for Maki. Steve has known Maki since I fostered him. It must be 2 – 3 years now. Maki and Steve bonded from the beginning and should be allowed to stay together.

From Christina:
Hi
Sarah went after one of Terry dogs. Everything is fine but they don’t know if they will be able to keep fostering her. He thinks it might have been due to her surgery. She is crated and coned during the day while they are at work and his wife came home to let them out and it occurred. The brother is not interested in adopted guys – does not have the facilities for it.
Is there a family who wants to adopt?
06/11/19: I spoke to Jane for a long time. She is a delight. She lives for her dogs! She’s retired and works her dogs in barn hunts, lurching, lure coursing, and other hunting activities. She adopted an Airedale from ARG via Pat Painter many years ago – Toby and he lived till he was 11-1/2. When she got him, she had a female terrier and he fell in love with that dog. She had puppies and Toby would protect and play with those puppies and not leave her side. As they got older, he would go get one of his toys, lie down, and hold the toy between his paws to teach the puppies how to play tug. He and her female were inseparable. She died and he mourned for her and looked for her until he died about a year later.
She showed him in lurching and he got it! It took him only a couple of times and he just looked at her one day like, “Oh, this is what you want me to do. Got it.” And he was great working with the JRTs. Wonderful protective sweetheart of a dog.
Jane travels around for JRT events and wants a big dog for protection and to work him in what he was born to do.
She would provide a wonderful home for George. She and Cindy Green have spoken and Cindy thinks she’ll be great for George. Jane is thinking about it.

Subject: Sarah
Hi Christina,Sarah is home and doing well, she’s still groggy but she is glad to be home.
She was microchipped, the sutures are the dissolving type so she won’t need a follow-up for removal, and the heartworm test came back negative.
Let me know if you want me to scan and email you the information that I have on her so far.
The vet’s office is probably the one who had been seeing her, they put down a date of birth as 6/11/2015, nice birthday present going through surgery!

06/10/19: Danielle Corbitt emailed to see if they are approved and I told them yes. Told them that Carrie is being considered by another family. But we’ll keep them in mind for Carrie or another.
06/08/19: From Marion & Sally Dixon’s Home Evaluation Form:
It is at least 4,000 square feet. We saw only the downstairs which is about 2,000 square feet. It’s quite spacious. The home is approximately 100 years old, is brick, and colonial style.
The furnishings are traditional. Area rugs are on well-kept hardwood floors. There is a great deal of open space. There are two staircases that are visible from the main living area, one at the back of the living room and one down the hall near the kitchen and back porch.
There are large crates in the dining room near the living room, in the office next to living room, and upstairs in the master bedroom. The dog they have is not chained at anytime. He is only on a leash when he goes outside for pottying and for walks. The fencing is not complete in the backyard. Three fencing contractors have come to evaluate and make estimates; none have presented proposals. Marion suggested the name of a Burke County fencing contractor they might want to contact. They do intend to complete the fencing of the back yard.
Danielle and Rick work as a team when interacting with, guiding, and disciplining Blue Boy. He is very active and friendly, requiring Rick to crate him until he calmed down. Both Danielle and Rick used the same commands as they dealt with Blue’s unwanted behaviors. When Blue did calm down, he focused on his chews/toys that were available.
They know a 2nd dog will add to their responsibilities/expense; the benefits for Blue are greater.
We encourage the completion of the backyard fencing/gate. Will be great for dogs!

06/07/19: From Sally Dixon after HV:
Yes, they are very loving and very firm, doing everything in a calm manner. Impressive couple!! SD06/08/19: From Marion:
Although she is limited some in her physical capabilities (she does use a rolling walker to move about the house) her upper torso body control appears normal. We don’t think there is, at present, any problem with her being able to deal with two dogs. I feel certain when just family is present, her voice commands are heard and obeyed. She was able to restrain Blue, (she did so while we were there) due to his super excited (typical Airedale) state with new company/visitors in his domain… The openness of the house and the way things are furnished/arranged make her movement through the house very easy. Two dogs would have ample “romping room” and probably would take a little of the edge off of Blue. Rick is very dedicated to insuring that they would have walks every day to burn the Airedale energy. As Rick put it, ” Blue is my dog, but Danielle is the disciplinarian” I truly don’t think she’d have any problems handling two (or more for that matter!) dogs. She’s quite in control.
As far as the cat… He would be in control! That is one cool kitty cat. The dog would have to succumb to him. He is quite capable of keeping things “in order”. Not that he’d be attacking without provocation, but Leo is very much “his own cat” and I think would be able to teach a newbie the rules of the roost. He and Blue were quite impressive together…
In the PDF that we viewed, it wouldn’t allow scrolling so it must be that the originator of the form can scroll through and view all of the entered text, but in a saved, PDF file, we couldn’t. Glad you could see it all.
Sally and I talked about the Corbitts and feel that they would do anything to insure the well being of their animals. If something were to happen to us, I’d hope a family like them would be able to take our boys…
If we can be of any further assistance to you or ARG, just let us know.
Peace unto you and yours…
Marion and Sally

Morning, Sally & Marion. Thank you so much for the thoughtful, thorough evaluation for the Corbitts. My only question is: Does Danielle have any problem taking care of Blue? We know she walks slowly because of her MS, but do you think she will be able to handle 2 dogs in the house when Rick is not there?I had no problem reading all that you entered. I didn’t know that the space was limited in the response boxes. When reading, the response boxes become scrollable.
They are interested in a female Airedale we have who is very timid and reticent. She does love other dogs and needs another dog companion, and wants to be with her people. The cat is a big question mark!
And, finally, would you be comfortable leaving either Ben or Jed there with the Corbitts?
June 10, 2019 at 1:22 pm in reply to: Drizele (fka Grizele), 7-1/2 yo F/S, Adopted by Barbara Calhoon #2298106/10/19: Got email from Dale Veach explaining that they had a lightning strike overnight and some of their appliances including their router got hit and they would get back to me by the end of the week. They sent photos and Grizele’s AKC. She was bred by Lana Byrd. See Lana’s post.
I have told Barbara Calhoon Stephens about Grizele. It would be a perfect transport – 1 hour.
06/09/19: As Jackie knows I am going back to Albany this coming Tuesday, the 11th and will be back on Saturday, the 15th. But I will have my phone with me so either text me or call me. Sarah is very excited about getting Wyatt but also nervous because she has never adopted this way, where she has to meet someone to get her dog. I suggested she either bring a friend or her Mom with her so it will make travelling in the car easier with 2 people. She is going to bring a travel crate and if Wyatt is ok in it she will put him in it or if not she will leave her Mom or friend in back with Wyatt for the trip home.
Jackie when you take Wyatt for his heartworm test and to be microchipped would you let me know when you are going to do that and what the results are? I think Sarah will be anxious to know if everything is ok. She is excited but is afraid that the owner will change their mind or something will happen that this won’t happen. You know how you get when you are excited but afraid to be too excited?
So I hope everything else will be ok for everyone. I hope your brother, Pat, is doing ok and I hope Hawkeye can remain calm and I hope a home can be found for Casey girl.
Love you,

Hi, Sue. Will you talk to Sarah Erickson about this plan for the 22nd? Through Birmingham will be the shortest route for Tesla/Wyatt. Will this work for her?Jackie Cash | 901-438-5782

Subject: Re: TeslaHi Jackie,
That is wonderful news!!We can drive Tesla to Birmingham or Nashville—whichever is easier for you. I’ll be back on the 15th, so would the weekend of the 22nd work?
I don’t feel comfortable having the last minute sitter I found on rover.com taking Tesla to the vet. If you can take him and have him tested for heartworm, that would be great. Alternatively, we can take him when we get back on the 15th.
I really appreciate the work that you do—Tesla is a wonderful dog and what I want most is to find a home for him where he will get the attention that he deserves.
Chuck
From JMC:
Morning, Chuck. We have a home for Tesla, a single woman in Decatur, GA, a teacher, who will be home with him all summer long to get him acclimated to her home and lifestyle. When she returns to school, she typically returns home just after 3, but her mom who lives nearby will come over during the day to walk Tesla. This was her routine with her last dog, a 60-lb lab who died nearly 1 year ago. She is a committed walker, hiker, who will dote on Tesla and make sure he gets the mental and physical stimulation that he requires. She is traveling through the 17th, but can take him any time after that. Would you be able to drive him a couple of hours toward Decatur, either via Tupelo-Birmingham or via Nashville to meet a volunteer who will take him to another volunteer and on to his new owner? We do these types of transports all the time and have volunteers who are willing to take the time and the gas to help get an Airedale to a new home. We have more volunteers along the Memphis-Nashville-Atlanta route than we do via Tupelo-Birmingham. However, once we’re in Birmingham, we have many volunteers who could get him to GA.
I failed to notice until now that Tesla has not been tested for heart worms nor has he been on preventative. Before he goes to his new home, he’ll need to be tested and, if positive, begin a course of Doxycycline and Heartgard. I want to get this done ASAP. Would your friend who is taking care of Tesla be able to get him to your vet for this? If not, I can arrange to pick him up and take him to a vet.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Jackie
06/09/19: Sara is fostering with Terry & Ruth Church in Whiteville. They were to keep her only for the weekend but have decided they want to foster her. JMC emailed Teresa Hopkins to see if the appointment for spaying is still on for Tuesday. Also want HW test and microchip.
June 8, 2019 at 12:45 pm in reply to: Private: Krishna & Yagnesh Chapatwala, Roswell, GA 30075 #2296306/06/19: Response to Kelly re Krishna’s questions:
Hi, Kelly. Once again, a very good, thorough report on Krishna. As to her questions:1.Is it possible to “meet the dog ahead of time and just hang out for a while?” Our dogs are in home situations and comfortable. Meeting her and hanging out for a while is not going to tell her much at all. So, no.
2.Is it possible to have the dog “for a few days to see if it’s a good fit?” No. The dogs are already in a foster situation. We would tell her everything we know about a particular Airedale and she would make a decision from what we know.
3.Is George still available, or has he been spoken for? Krishna sent me a PM on FB Friday about George and I responded on Saturday that he would not be a good fit for her. He is such high-energy and high-intensity Airedale, that he would not be a good fit for a first time dog owner. (Since she and I aren’t friends on FB, she may not have noticed my response. It would be in her Message Requests.)
We can schedule a home visit. I’ll find a volunteer for you and we’ll go from there.Thank you, Kelly!
Good work. -
