June 26, 2019 at 9:35 pm in reply to: Private: Lee Gregory, Columbia, SC 29206 – Can’t Adopt – Other help #23053
06/26/19: Offered Mason, the 4-y-o male from Villa Rica, GA, to Lee. She can’t take a new dog now because she will be keeping her daughter’s dog when her daughter moves to Denver this fall. She will consider one after Christmas holidays. She prefers a female, middle-aged. She and her husband have talked about it and realize the older ones are harder to place and that’s who they’ll want. Mason, at 4, is about the youngest they would consider and then only if it were an emergency.
06/26/19: Annette Dover has sent many emails today with photos and copies of medical records. WEll-documented medical care. He’s a great dog.
Annette asked her niece why he was prescribed the anti-diarrhea meds. Her response:
“We just came home one day and he had made a mess everywhere. He wouldn’t really eat or drink anything that night so we took him to the vet the next day. She prescribed him metronidazole and and those anti diarrhea pills. He was back to normal in a day or two.”Thinking of Art Gardner, Lee Mason Gregory, and Becky Wolbers.

Subject: adoptionJackie,
It has been about 2 years since my WFT passed after 16 years together. I think I am ready for another Terrier. Please keep me in mind for an available Airedale, WFT, Welsh, or Wheaten.
I have had a little experience in Airedale rescue/fostering in the last ten years and grew up with an Airedale. Between that and my 16 years with a rather independent minded WFT, I am well familiar with stubborn earth doggies!
I am 60 and live alone (widowed) on an acre of land with a large fenced backyard in East Marietta. The fence has chain link imbedded in the ground for a foot or two inside the fence line to prevent a “digger” from digging under the fence and escaping. The home already has a doggie door so Trapper could go in and out as he pleased. The property feels rather rural (I live on top of a small mountain and there are very few residents up here). It is a good place for dogs. I have no other pets. I am in good shape physically and can walk a dog with no trouble. My routine with Trapper was to walk him very regularly — it was good for his pysche and for my waistline!
I prefer a show-quality dog in appearance, if possible, but have no interest in dog shows. I just love the classic breed-standard looks. Thus, I am not interested in a mix. I am not interested in breeding dogs, so I don’t need an “intact” doggie. I prefer a dog under the age of 6 so we can have many years together. Ideally, I’d like a dog with a loving disposition. I can accept a doggie that is aggressive toward other pets since I don’t have any other pets and won’t. But aggression toward people is not a good match for me.
With best regards, I remain,
very truly yours,
Art Gardner

Subject: Message from SarahThis is what I received from Sarah after I asked her how Bourke was doing today.
Much better and I just got off the phone with vet. She wants to check his platelets in 3-5 days. He has tested positive for a tick born disease, but it hopeful the anti-biotic For the respiratory infection will help, but he may have to go on a course of steroids. She just wants to wait as to not overload him with unnecessary drugs.
He is eating!!! Both wet and dry food! And we’ve been chilling! He has been more active and interested in scooping out the house and naps like a champ!
This was my response to her;
Ok Sarah I am so glad to hear he is more active today. Must be all the TLC you are giving him. I think Jackie is going to call your vet tomorrow to let her know that ARG will be taking care of any further charges and hopefully she might give Airedale Rescue a discount because we are a Rescue Group.
What do you think?
Thanks
SueJune 23, 2019 at 6:06 pm in reply to: Bourke (fkaCogsworth) ~6 yo Male/Intact, Fostering w Sarah Erickson #2304206/22/19: Sarah took Bourke to her vet:
Clairmont Animal Hospital
1226 Clairmont Rd
Decatur, GA 30030
404-633-6163Vet believes he has something going on with his back/neck because he doesn’t want to raise his head. She wants to see x-ray done by Pickens Co. Shelter on Thursday. (I will call to see if we can get it sent to the vet.)
Vet also thinks he has a tick-borne illness, but is HW negative. They did blood work and will get results back next week. Vet did not want Sarah to go ahead with the neuter until they know what is wrong with him. His pads are worn down, but don’t need treatment. He had to have fluids because he was dehydrated and was not eating for Sarah. Sarah said his skin was terrible and he was so stinky she had to stop on the way home from picking him up to bathe him at a self-service pet spa.
Vet started him on Doxy and he got HW and flea/tick preventatives.
He’s an Airedale mix.

She puts Solid Gold in with it. She’s a very pleasant dog. She’ll get close to you but doesn’t push or lick. Follows Barbara around. She’ll let you pet her. Follows her out in the yard. She sits for treat. The prev She pulls a bit on leash. She’s using the Martingale and the gentle leader. Did better with the nose over leash. She’s workable. They have seen no problems. If you have any questions or comments for us please tell us here…
We’ve done some research on dog breeds, have thought a great deal about our
wants and needs, and waited for our sons to reach an age we think would work
well for a bringing a dog into our family. We also have talked with a
family who has owned airedales and were impressed with what they had to say.
After all that and my conversation today with Barbara about the Airedales
rescue project and the 5-month old puppies that came to her yesterday, we
would like to submit our application for consideration. We are a family who
enjoys spending time together and playing outdoors. My husband, Brian,
works for a Sports Media Company from our home and would be able to care for
the dog during the day, including his daily run at lunch. The dog would
only be left a few hours during after school pick-ups and activities. We
would love to share our family with a dog, an airedale. We hope to hear
from your organization so that we can adopt one of the 5-month old male
pups. We realize ther!
e maybe applications ahead of ours, and we are willing to patiently wait.
Many thanks for your consideration. Peggy Binette

Subject: thank you for our Airedale
Date: Sun, 16 Mar 2014 02:13:37 +0000
Hello — I wanted to take a moment and thank you for bringing the best dog into the lives of my family. Our beloved Bosox (birth name Coal) died Friday night from congestive heart failure. He was 10 1/2 (born Sept. 30, 2003). Bosox never knew a sick or sad day until the last two weeks, and with cardiac medications he enjoyed his final days — smelling the scents of early spring and enjoying a rolled tennis ball and brief strolls. He died in our arms after a tail-wagging stroll Friday.
Airedale rescue chose Bosox for us. While I thought it unorthodox at the time for you to interview my husband, me and our three young sons in order to determine the right dog for us, I certainly understand now. Bosox indeed was the right dog for us. More than that, he was that one special dog that every family deserves.
We will miss Bosox and cherish our memories of time spent with him. He was a beautiful, loving, goofy and playful boy.
Thank you, Airedale rescue, for entrusting him to our family.
Bosox of Fenway Binette, Sept. 30, 2003 – March 14, 2014.

June 1 email from Katherine in response to sending her a contract:
Hi Jackie,Thanks for reaching out. It has definitely been an exciting week. I was so thrilled to meet Odie Monday. He is such a sweet boy that just wants to be loved. Unfortunately, this desire is so strong that it’s creating some significant issues for me/us. Despite, very consistent praise/discipline, he gets excited and jumps/nips a LOT. He continues to break out of his crate, even after I’ve added carabiners to the doors. (I’ll try adding a third one tonight.) Today, he got out of the yard (while I was outside with him). I found him one street over. A younger child was crying because Odie “bit him.” It turns out Odie just nipped him. Thankfully, the mother was really nice about it. Tonight, when we were in the yard, he went back to the same corner in which he escaped several times. Thankfully, he listened to me and didn’t jump that fence again. I’m worried that he will continue to push the limits with that fence and it won’t be the last time he gets out. Unfortunately, I’m not in a financial situation that will allow me to upgrade the fence. That alone concerns me about the idea of adopting Odie. I already love him and, again, he is such a sweet boy! I really want this to work out but I’m concerned it may not be the best fit. I don’t know that I’m ready to give up but I also don’t know that I’m ready to adopt him. Pat has been an AMAZING resource for me this week. I’ve been so thankful for their support and guidance. I’ve kept her updated throughout the week and continue to do so. I’m hopeful that, together, we can make the best decision for Odie this week. Is it ok if we please wait it out a bit longer before making the adoption decision?

ARG is committed to Odie’s training so that he can live happily with Katherine.
You can reach me at the number below. Thank you, Beth.

Thank you, all, for your words of encouragement and ideas. Odie and I have had some ups and downs in the last few days:
escaped the yard again…but, a friend came up with a fix for that particular corner of the fence that seems to be keeping him in the yard for now
chewed through his head collar when reacting to a dog during a walk in the neighborhood – yikes!
still biting and jumping a lot…but, less than last week!
figured out that the crate may not be an option for him, he will bark for HOURS (literally!) if I put him in there; instead, I’m keeping him in my sunroom (has a couple of fans and a vent for the HVAC) while I’m away. That seems to be working. At night, he’s roaming the house freely but seems to spend a lot of that time outside my bedroom door. So far, no issues overnight!
he seems to understand the boundaries in the house and he’s picked up a couple of commands this week; he’s a smart boy!
I’m looking forward to the training – thank you so, so much for arranging that! I’m really hopeful that Odie can learn quickly so we can continue some of this positive momentum. I’ll check back in once that’s scheduled and/or we’ve had our first meeting with the trainer. Thanks for your patience as we work through this. I’m still hopeful that I’m the best fit for Odie but not totally ready to sign the agreement quite yet. Please let me know if this becomes an issue at any point. Thanks so much to all of you! Again, I really appreciate your support and guidance through this transition.Katherine & Odie!
