06/29/19: Great interview. Just reading her application, I think I would approve her, but we’ll follow protocol. She’s terrific. I don’t know what she and her husband do, but they’re both home all the time and have two daughters 10 and 8. I asked if the girls were accustomed to large dogs – yes, of course. Friends and neighbors with Rottweilers and Labs, etc. The girls have been with dogs since coming home from being born. They bred WFTs before they had children, and have had 4 over the last 20 years. Their last one is 11 and is going for surgery to remove mammary tumors and be spayed this summer. They are building a pool but she said that would not prevent them from getting a dog now, because their dogs are never outside without them. Their dogs have always gone with them on vacation – they don’t travel anywhere that their dogs can’t go. The husband grooms their WFTs so would groom the ADT. The cook all their dog’s food and give supplements. Their fence is terrier proof.

      Just need a home visit.

So tempting, but my life seems to be on hold around everyone for at least 6 more months.
Saw and stopped to play with a dale walking through one of the squares here in Savannah.
          Lovely dog.

            06/29/19:
            Dear Tina,
We received your application to adopt an Airedale Terrier. I’m sorry that you had to say goodbye to your Airedale that lived to 22 years! We’ve never heard of one living past about 15. Airedales typically do not live longer than 10-12 years. You were very fortunate. However, I am sorry to inform you that we will not be able to adopt to you.

Airedales are usually 60-70 lbs and are very high-energy dogs that need a lot of exercise daily, 30-45 minutes twice a day. They are very prey-driven, so they will often go after smaller dogs (unless they’ve been raised with them) and cats or other critters and need a strong owner to control them. They do not make good service dogs as they are too curious and head-strong to always follow commands. One of our long-time volunteers and her husband have trained service dogs for more than 20 years in the Carolinas (they are now retired). They have adopted 4-5 Airedales from us and are experts at training, but despite their best efforts to train Airedales to be service dogs, they have not been successful.

We wish you and your husband the very best and hope that you find a more suitable dog to be a service dog.

06/28/19: Asked Lori Law if she could foster Sherlock from Two by Two Rescue. No, because her Otterhound Trudie has some medical issues and she’s fostering another Otterhound. Just can’t take on another dog.

06/28/19: She sent a follow up email that she listed Odie on the application, but she’s also interested in George. I don’t know about the 6-year-old child.

Pat and Rick know this person and think she’ll provide a great home.

Christina recommends Heather Conn for home visit in Easley.

Art: Away from home currently normal work day 8-9 hours. Work is such he can modify that and work from home. Have planned if he gets another dog that he would work from home the first couple of hours of the day and then the last couple of hours of the day. Doesn’t want to be gone and leave a dog unattended.

Previously had trapper WFT from breeder, almost professional breeder/backyard breeder. Good dog. 16 years. When he was young was not socialized, but as he got older he got super friendly to everyone. Fear issues. Looking for pack leader to protect him. He didn’t want to be Alpha.

He got dog from group in TN. That Airedale from TN could never go potty outside for 8-9 months and someone in Atlanta took the dog.

On tippy top of mountain in Marietta. Perfect house and yard for dog.

06/26/19: Hi, Art. Nice to hear from you again. We will absolutely keep you in mind for an Airedale. Are you still on Gunby Rd in Marietta? If not, please give us your complete address. How long would your Airedale be alone on a daily basis? We need this info to update our records.

And we’ll talk later this week too.
                            Thank you

It went wonderful and she was very happy. We got Odie to stop pulling on leash with the leader and introduced the wait and leave it command. She was going to work on those for a week or two and touch base. She seemed to feel much better by the time I left.
