Subject: RE: Izzy in Mobile, AL – Looking to re-home our almost 5 y/o F/N Airedale

Hello, Sean. Thank you for your email about and photos of Izzy. She’s a beautiful Airedale. I understand your concern with her growling and snapping at your 18-mo-old son. That is not a safe situation, and you’re wise to keep them separated.

As to our procedure, it depends on the Airedale. Our Relinquishment Form requires important information about the Airedale and their personality, traits, living conditions, likes and dislikes, health history, etc. — everything we need to know to be able to place it successfully. With a healthy Airedale (verified by vet records), accustomed to living inside, and whose personality and traits are known, we can often place it within a month or so, sometimes longer. If you were unable to keep her in your home that long, we would try to find a foster home if the permanent home is not ready.

We do not have a lot of volunteers near Mobile; we rarely get ‘dales from that area. We have more in the Greenville, SC area. But, because we cover AL, GA,TN, NC, and SC, the home we find for her could be in any of those states.

We would not place her in a home with toddlers. We do not place Airedales in homes where people plan to keep them outside; they must live and sleep inside. Yards are nice, but our placement contract requires that the Airedale never be left outside when no one is home. We do not place Airedales in homes where they would be left alone 8-10 hours a day. We must know how they get along with other dogs — small and large, with children and what ages, with cats, and much more.

We require applicants to complete a detailed application, a telephone interview, a home visit, and provide references from previous vets, and personal references. We turn people down if we do not feel that theirs would be a good home.

All of this depends on the specific Airedale and the specific applicants. We can, of course, tell you more once we get the Relinquishment form on Izzy and know more about her.

Thank you for contacting us. I am certain we can help you and find a home for Izzy.

      Jackie

Hello, Sean. Just checking in with you about Izzy. I have a home in mind for her in Easley, SC, but we need all the info called for on our Release and a conversation with you once I have reviewed the Release.

I look forward to talking to you.

        Hi Jackie,

My vet is Towne Lake Animal Hospital in Woodstock, probably about 50 miles from Rome. They are open on Sat and Sun. It is the same vet Ollie was taken to that I helped transport a few months ago. My cousin lives closer to Rome, she rescues Coon Hounds, I can check with her if you need one closer. I am sorry but I am not able to foster at this time.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. I hope these dogs will find wonderful homes!

        Jackie

Morning, Sari. I just tried to call you and left a voice mail. I am sorry about your mom’s health issues. That must be very difficult for you in many ways.

Clementine must be very confused by not being with your mom and we will do all we can to help. Yes, we can do temporary fostering.

What will help us the most to be able to find an appropriate foster home for Clementine is for you to complete our Relinquishment form; it’s the same we use for fostering. Please go to our web site below and click on Relinquish and in comments state that this is for TEMPORARY FOSTERING. All the info we ask for will help us find a suitable home for her.

I look forward to hearing from you.

            07/10/19 I spoke to
            Stephanie Leigh Mullins
            7062333809.
She had put her two ‘dales on CL for $1000. I told her we can’t pay that much bc we’re rescue. Didn’t offer an amount.
She loves animals and bought to breed and keep them. She didn’t know anything about Airedales and had no idea they’d go after cats and squirrels etc.
She’s had a very tough year,
4 years ago married a man and he has been hospitalized and now in prison; he’s schizophrenic.
Has a house in Rome GA and she can’t deal with that
Her two Airedales are both intact bc she was going to breed. Both 2 years old. One is 3 months older than the other.
She had a litter and had 7 puppies. Didn’t know she was even pregnant. When she “found” them in their pen, all but 3 died. She took the others to the vet and they died too. Vet didn’t know why.
The male used to ran free and chased donkeys. He got kicked and now has a limp from being kicked. But he’s fine.
I asked her to fill out Relinquishment forms on each dog.
On 07/13 I texted and asked if she was going to fill out the forms and she replied that she’s been busy, packing to move, but would do them.

                      Jackie,
Sherlock has been great with our kids (2 & 5). We have had him on a
mini reset with lots of crate rest while he tries to settle in. He’s
extremely friendly and very high energy. Loves attention. He’s not dog
aggressive, but does require proper introduction because he’s been
starved for attention and therefore is a little pushy to make sure
he’s the one getting the attention. We have a house full, so I think
he would do better with fewer dogs (we have 6). We have not yet gotten
to the point where everyone can relax together without crating. He is
crate trained and hasn’t had any accidents in the house. I don’t like
to promise that he’s housebroken when I’ve only had him a few days,
but I believe he is. He loves to play fetch and he bounds around with
excitement when he’s getting some attention.

                      Amanda

May be good for Carin Bandy.

I’m sorry she is feeling fearful of your husband. I think that in time she will become confident of him. Does he feed her? Maybe if he does ‘good’ things for her that will help her associate him with positive confidence.

I think it’s so funny when they lay down to eat or drink. Is she drinking or eating in this photo? My Airedale does this – whenever he can. Normally he has raised bowl feeding but when he has the opportunity he will lie down. So lazy!

I ask because the family who wanted him has now said they need to wait till “sometime in August.” They’re building a pool and deck; their daughters are in year-round school and begin the summer quarter starting tomorrow; and the dad is having an “unexpected surgery” this week. I told them that we couldn’t wait that long to place Odie. However, we have not identified a better home yet.

If you want to keep Odie and will commit to him and to continuing his training, we will commit to you to pay for that training at a rate to be agreed upon. What do you say?
