07/19/19 From Julie Tilson re Dash:
Hey Jackie, please let me know something soon, on someone to take Dash. My husband would like to make other arrangements. We had a pop up storm while we were at a client event. Dash got into the guest bathroom. Ate through the toilet line, flooded our house, ate a door knob, ruined a door. My husband is at his breaking point. This is so much worse than anything that has ever happened and will cost thousands to replace. If you don’t think there’s someone to take him, I understand.

Subject: Re: OdieHi Jackie!
Thanks for your voicemail. (I hope your broken finger is healing well!!) I also appreciate your patience with my response. I hope you remembered that I had a few things going on with work and then went out of town for several days.
I would LOVE to say that I’m comfortable keeping Odie but I just don’t think it’s what is best for him and/or for me right now. I truly believe he will benefit being in a home with more caretakers and/or more opportunity to play with other dogs. I’m heartbroken because we’ve bonded AND I know that he’ll be an amazing dog. I’m just not sure that I can provide the best environment for him. He certainly has more energy than I’ve ever seen in any dog….but he also has a HUGE heart. He’s gonna be an amazing family dog. I’m already missing him as I type this but I truly think it’s what’s best for him. Trust me, I’ve tried to rationalize any way possible to keep him.
What are the next steps?
I do think, if ARG is open to it, that I might be a good fit for an older dog (6+ years maybe?). I love this breed and want to help rescue any pup that might work well in my home. I so, so appreciate the trust you put into me with Odie. I do think he’s improved drastically since he arrived here. I just think he’ll thrive in another home. I hope you understand. I’m suggesting this from a place of love for him. He really is a great boy. I’ll wait to hear back from you about next steps. Thanks, again!!

I spoke with the groomer/boarder…Angela. She relates that she has known Rollie “practically my whole life”. Rollie takes her dogs to Angela for both services. Miniature poodle, German Shepard, American Pit Bull Terrier, and a mixed breed in addition to a cat. She said that she’s a “great dog mom.”
Regarding the Vet: (spoke with Diana). She relates that she does a lot of rescue work and recently brought in a rescue for suspected prolapse. She related that she seems to be up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick preventative as “she brought one of them in here for flea/tick medicine as well as a rx.”
As mentioned in my email of a few minutes ago, Rollie has been fielding the questions/providing information.
Both vet tech. & groomer were very positive.
Hope this helps!

Subject: Re: Adoption Application Form submitted on Airedale Rescue GroupGood morning ladies! Yes, Rollie sounded like Sally’!!! I spoke with Rollie yesterday. Rollie is fielding information/questions for her mother as she related that her mom isn’t too tech savvy. Boy! Can I relate!!
Anyway…Her mom (Gina) is to whom the ‘dale would go. Gina and Rollie’s father live in the in-law suite on the farm. Gina had an Airedale growing up & currently has 3 cats. That being said, we need a kitty friendly ‘dale. Rollie also relates that there are horses on the property, so a horse friendly/tolerant ‘dale would be a plus. The ‘dale would be able to get to the horses if not wearing the electronic collar. They do have an underground fence.
Rollie states that her mom just really wants a big cuddler. Gina has RA (rheumatoid arthritis) but isn’t limited by it. Rollie has a sister that runs, so she is able to offer the ‘dale more exercise if needed.
An older dog is preferred mainly because it will be her mother’s dog…Rollie said that she told her that she would do better with an older dog as it wouldn’t be too rambunctious.
Gender doesn’t matter.

07/18/19: Spoke to Sean. Izzy is a very sweet, loving. playful, smart Airedale who has gotten along fine with all the children, ages 11, 10, 9, and 5, and has been protective of the 5-y-old. But when the baby Patrick came along, she was not happy. He’s now 18 months old and every time he comes in the room and Izzy is in her crate, she growls at him; if he comes closer she barks at him. They are doing a good job of keeping them separated but it’s difficult to manage and they’re always on their guard if Izzy is free in the house.
Once t the dog park, Izzy was drinking from a water bowl and a little girl came up to pet her and Izzy snapped and “barely” got the girl. No blood, no harm. I would be hesitant to put her with children younger than about 10.
Typical day is Izzy and her yorkie-poo brother Rufus go out and play in the backyard and bark at passersby, then come in and she will go to her crate to rest, then most times be free in the house unless Patrick is up and about. Sean takes her when he rides is bike for 25 min or so and she runs alongside (using head harness). Margaret will walk both dogs for about an hour when Sean doesn’t ride. They go to a dog park with very few dogs but she loves every dog she sees and has always gotten along very well in boarding playing with other dogs. She is never aggressive with dogs.
She will go after cats and has gotten out of the gate if it wasn’t properly secured to go after cats. If she is just running she will come back, but if she’s after a cat, she’ll not come back as easily.
She is sometimes left outside if they’re not gone long, but usually stays in her crate. She doesn’t go upstairs and sleeps downstairs in her crate.
They are going on a 2-1/2 week trip starting next Thursday July 25th!

Airedale Rescue Group will be responsible for all charges related to their care. I have enclosed our 501(c)3 registration and you have granted us a 20% rescue discount. We appreciate that very much as we exist only on donations and adoption fees.

Patients:
Intact male – Oscar, DOB Dec 5 2016
Intact female – Maya, DOB Dec 10 2016; she has produced 1 litter; none of the pups survived.
For both, we want a full vaccination package including influenza required by your clinic ($165 x 2)
A full wellness check, including heart worm tests. If positive, we will discuss treatment plans; begin on heart worm preventative if appropriate.
Neuter Oscar (approx $250)
Spay Maya (approx $275-300)
I’m sure they will need baths and may be full of fleas. If they have fleas, you can give them a Capstar or equivalent and begin flea/tick preventative.
Boarding for both. We did not discuss time or rates for boarding. I’d like to book them for at least 1 week, depending on the surgery schedule and finding foster homes for them.
Please let me know if you need further information; otherwise, I will let you know when to expect them and will be available for questions and/or authorizations for treatment, testing, blood work, etc.
Thank you,
Jackie

Kylie at clinic07/15/19: Hi, Carin & Brandon. I wanted to give you some info on the Airedale we are thinking about for you. He is in So. Alabama with an all-breed rescue who has asked us to find his home. He will be 2 years old in December and was surrendered by a man who had just divorced and had taken a second job which left Sherlock alone all day. Worse he was tethered outside bc they didn’t trust him in the house, except to sleep at night. He’s had no training (sigh) so he jumps on kids (they were 5 and 9) when they come outside. He is otherwise good with them and with other dogs. He is NOT good with cats. He is not good on leash.
He’s currently with a foster family in AL but needs to go to his forever home. Here’s what the foster mom reported to me after he had spent one week in her home. He is still there.
“Sherlock has been great with our kids (2 & 5). We have had him on a
mini reset with lots of crate rest while he tries to settle in. He’s
extremely friendly and very high energy. Loves attention. He’s not dog
aggressive, but does require proper introduction because he’s been
starved for attention and therefore is a little pushy to make sure
he’s the one getting the attention. We have a house full, so I think
he would do better with fewer dogs (we have 6). We have not yet gotten
to the point where everyone can relax together without crating. He is
crate trained and hasn’t had any accidents in the house. I don’t like
to promise that he’s housebroken when I’ve only had him a few days,
but I believe he is. He loves to play fetch and he bounds around with
excitement when he’s getting some attention.”
Amanda
As you can see, he is a doll, and as you know, Airedales are very smart and do great in training. The transport would be long but we could work it out.
How do you feel about training a “smooth-brained” Aire-boy? ARG will absolutely help with the cost if you say yes!
I’ll call in about 45 min or an hour or you can call me any time.
JackieCarin said that they wanted Sherlock, so I sent an email to Heather Wyatt & Amanda Parmley, his foster mom, and got a call back immediately that he had been moved to another foster mom and she wants to keep him. Heather said she’ll give her a week and check back.
Carin Bandy is very disappointed but she is such a gracious person, she’s understanding.
They have never been loose in the vehicle, Had a crate and they were in it. Free riding, no. They have orange reflector collars and leashes.
She is sending a crate with them.
July 17, 2019 at 10:25 am in reply to: Private: Gina & Barry Sanders, Eatonton, GA 31024 HOLD-KNEE SURG #23195I sounds as if they have a good family support system for caring for the ‘dale. I requested that Rollie give the Vet and their groomer/boarder a call to let them know to expect a call. I asked regarding the personal reference, specifically for a phone number, but in talking with Rollie she related that the reference’s spouse is very ill and that she didn’t get the phone number. I concurred thinking that this gal has bigger fish to fry right now…especially if the Vet and groomer check out. Will attempt to call them this afternoon, but wanted to get this out to you all ASAP.
Let me know if you need anything else & be expecting an addendum to this once I talk with the Vet & groomer.
Best,

Subject: RE: Izzy in Mobile, AL – Looking to re-home our almost 5 y/o F/N AiredaleHello, Sean. Thank you for your email about and photos of Izzy. She’s a beautiful Airedale. I understand your concern with her growling and snapping at your 18-mo-old son. That is not a safe situation, and you’re wise to keep them separated.
As to our procedure, it depends on the Airedale. Our Relinquishment Form requires important information about the Airedale and their personality, traits, living conditions, likes and dislikes, health history, etc. — everything we need to know to be able to place it successfully. With a healthy Airedale (verified by vet records), accustomed to living inside, and whose personality and traits are known, we can often place it within a month or so, sometimes longer. If you were unable to keep her in your home that long, we would try to find a foster home if the permanent home is not ready.
We do not have a lot of volunteers near Mobile; we rarely get ‘dales from that area. We have more in the Greenville, SC area. But, because we cover AL, GA,TN, NC, and SC, the home we find for her could be in any of those states.
We would not place her in a home with toddlers. We do not place Airedales in homes where people plan to keep them outside; they must live and sleep inside. Yards are nice, but our placement contract requires that the Airedale never be left outside when no one is home. We do not place Airedales in homes where they would be left alone 8-10 hours a day. We must know how they get along with other dogs — small and large, with children and what ages, with cats, and much more.
We require applicants to complete a detailed application, a telephone interview, a home visit, and provide references from previous vets, and personal references. We turn people down if we do not feel that theirs would be a good home.
All of this depends on the specific Airedale and the specific applicants. We can, of course, tell you more once we get the Relinquishment form on Izzy and know more about her.
Thank you for contacting us. I am certain we can help you and find a home for Izzy.
Jackie
