      Hi,
I have been in contact with Bobby Procyk, Airedale Rescue in Florida. I want to volunteer to interview families and be on-call for any possible relinquishments/drop-off’s at shelters, etc. I can also help transport, I am about 2 hours from Jacksonville, Florida in Southeast Georgia- Tybee Island/Savannah/Hilton Head.
I have a rescued Airedale and he has been with me for about six plus years. I rescued him through ATRA; when I was living in Colorado. I have owned several Airedales throughout the years. I am very familiar with the breed.
My phone numbers are: 720-212-6719 (cell) and 912-786-8943. My address is 1111 Laurel Avenue, Tybee Island, GA 31328
Please let me know what other information you need so that I can become part of the Airedale Rescue Group. I look forward to hearing from you.

11/05/19: Cathy & Jim Agee are interested in Nena. I’ve told them the good, bad, and ugly about her and they will speak to Tyson, the trainer about her.

11/11/19: They spoke to Tyson Saturday and he was going to send them a video but they don’t have it yet.

        They are very interested.

11/11/19: I spoke to Michael & Jeannette about Albe. Jeannette is definitely the Alpha (smile) and is the one who will teach the dogs. She has taught 10-year-old Lucy to stay on her rug just outside the kitchen and they’ve ordered a baby gate in anticipation of another dog.

They had also applied to another rescue group — don’t know which or whether it was specific breed or all-breed — and were just contacted by that group today, so they may have another alternative. I think Michael is set on Albe, but Jeannette wants to keep the door open. She talked about “doors opening up” for a reason She’s had a Pomeranian (or Pekingese?) and a Shiba Inu, but not since the early 2000s. She loves Lucy and loved Toughie, the 5-y-o dale who died.

They were concerned with logistics but I told them we could probably use PNP and if not, could easily get him from Charlotte to Savannah, perhaps even further south. They’re willing to drive to Savannah or Jacksonville.

They’ll let me know today what they want to do.

            Hi, again, Airedale Lovers!

He was neutered between our first contact the end of September and this past week. We’ve asked for the records several times and the owner said she requested them from her vet this past Thursday, but we’ve not received them.

I do remember Solomon and have the tile of him and of Violet that Polly designed. We use the tiles to send to our adopters who have lost an Airedale. They are beautiful and are appreciated by all who receive them.

We do still use volunteers when possible to transport a dog to make the trip more manageable. We could easily get volunteers from Winston-Salem to Savannah because we have a lot of volunteers in that area. (As to whether the owner would be willing to drive that far, I doubt it, but could ask.) From Savannah to the FL line, we have very few. However, we do have an option: Pilots N Paws, a volunteer group of private pilots with their own planes, help transport animals across the US for rescue groups. One of their pilots is a long-time volunteer and multiple-adopter of ARG and I feel certain he could do part of the trip. He lives near Savannah.

As for him getting a long with your Lucy, a brief meeting is probably not going to give you much information. He’s friendly to every dog he meets. How is Lucy on meeting dogs? You can probably expect that she may be jealous once he is in your home and you will need to reinforce and maintain her seniority: she gets fed first, she goes out and in doors first, she gets to choose her toy first, she gets the bed she wants first. He has not lived with another dog, but he’s a youngster and will probably defer to a female, especially an older one who is larger than him.

Would you two like to talk? You can call me – I don’t have your phone number.

Per below, after 40 years, & even less than a year for Jeannette, we both understand Airedale talk!
Below, as of 9-25, owner says dog “intact,” but your e-mail Nov 9th said:
            Albe, a 1-1/2 year old male/neutered, 63 lbs..
So is he neutered? If not, isn’t that something Rescue groups need to do, before transfer?
And the weight of 63 is about correct?
He reminds me of Solomon, whom we also got from your group, who was also with a single woman, working full-time. He was an amazing dog, and you still sell the drawing Polly did of Sol (attached.)
Do you still have access to the “underground” car transport? I think at least a couple of times you had Airedale people drive a dog part-way.
We would be willing to pay someone for their time, for instance, to meet us near Savannah, which would be about a 5-hour trip one-way for each of us. Would the current owner want to make that trip, so we could all meet? We would bring Lucy, to make sure Lucy & Albe liked one another.
            Regards,
            Jeannette & Mike

Hello, Michael & Jeannette. I’m glad to tell you everything we know about Albe. The owner contacted me at the end of September; my notes follow:
            09/25/19:
He’s 16 months old, intact, and she does not want him to go back to the breeder in Myrtle Beach. Their place was dirty, the dogs were dirty, the puppies were dirty. She’s having a hard time with this. We talked 35 minutes with me explaining our process and her telling me what a great dog he was. She is a private care nurse and works 5 days a week, 8-10 hours a day, and it just isn’t fair to him. He’s had private training and knows when the E-COLLAR IS ON to come, but if it’s not, he might or might not come. He’ll sit, he’s smart. The only bad habit is jumping on people when they come to the home. He’s a snuggler. Loves other dogs in the dog park.

Albe plays with any body he can 😂 dogs kids and delivery truck drivers that gives him treats. Yes he goes to the dog park and happily plays with big dogs and medium size dogs. The small dogs are on the other side of the fence and he runs along with them too.
He has gone to daycare last spring every day but it became more than I could really afford in a regular basis.
Albe has always gotten along with other dogs he even tried to get along with a mastiff mix that attacked him 3 times while staying with a friend for a week while I was in Texas. That will never happen again. The other dog owner said she could not figure out why Albe would continue to try and play with Cooper (who really is a mean dog and I found out he bit a child recently!).

He is still with his owner and we do not want to move him except to his new home. You are a long way from him — approximately 10 hours, so the transport would be very long and we would probably need to break it into 2 days.

You have first right of refusal for this boy. Oh, he does not bark excessively. He talks to you.

              In reply to Susan Chinouth.
Good morning, Susan. Thank you so much for volunteering to help us transport rescued Airedales. I recognized your name and found your application to us in 2016 but your file ended up in our inactive applications. You did not have any animals at that time, but had previously had an Airedale plus others. We often need transport volunteers in your area of Tennessee, so we’ll keep your information in our “transport volunteers” section. Would you also be able to do home visits for us if needed? Once we’ve interviewed and checked references for applicants, we ask a volunteer to conduct a home visit to see where the Airedale would live and be our feet-on-the-ground representative. Is your phone number still: 423-341-2201? Can you receive text messages on it? I look forward to hearing more from you, Susan, and really appreciate your offer of assistance. Jackie Cash

10/29/19: Just got off the phone with Candice Herring and she will be going into hospice at the end of December and will be relinquishing Rusty back to us — target date December 17. (Kelly, she adopted Rusty from us December 30, 2016, but she now has ALS.)

I did not ask her for a Relinquishment form because she told me all about him and I suspect she would have difficulty filing out the form. He is great with all dogs and all people. He loves everyone, including all the hospice folks who come into the house. She’d love for him to go to a family with kids above the age of 6 or so. He’s fine with her 4-year-old grandchild, but he’s still rambunctious, so older kids would be better. He plays with all the dogs of every size in the neighborhood. A couple of her neighbors have told her they want him, but she thinks that would be hard on him because he’d want to go across the street to his home, and their house is dark and she wants him to have something clean and light.

She’s going to send me his vet records. He’s healthy and happy. We may already have a family that would work for him. Let me know who you’re thinking of.

                      They’re in Greenville, SC.

                          Subject: For Nena (pronounced Nayna)

I’ve been looking through Approved/Waiting for someone for Nena. Barbara said we probably should not take her, but after talking at length with Phil & Becky night before last, with Tyson, their trainer, today, and with their vet, Dr. Redden, today, I believe she will be good for the right situation.

In December she was begun on psych meds because she was showing signs of anxiety and they were worried about her. The vet put her on Prozac and Trazadone. After a few days, they said she was acting weird: not making eye contact, not wanting to be with them, growling at them when they petted her. They attributed that behavior to the meds and took her off of them. In January, she bit her mom on the thumb when the mom walked into the room where she was lying down, leaned over her from behind, and petted her. Nena immediately turned and got the end of her thumb. It required a band aid. They called their vet, believing if a dog bit a person, they must be euthanized (!!!). It was basically a nip, not even a puncture. The vet said no, get a trainer.

Phil & Becky have 2 12-year-old Welshies who Nena loves to play with, but plays too rough now that she’s gotten larger, so they avoid her. She’s jealous of them when they get treats or attention. Recently, Phil & Becky were working with one of them trying to get it to come up steps to get on their bed, using a treat. Nena wanted the treat and when the Welshie tried to get it, she grabbed the Welshie by the head and bit her. Got her on the head and ear. They said that’s the last straw. Nena has been with the trainer since then – about 2 weeks.

Tyson has worked with her off and on since January. I asked him to tell me about Nena:
Convo with Tyson, the trainer. I liked him. His description of Nena:
Honestly a very very good dog; single dog environment with substantial owner. Needs someone to tell her what to do. She is wonderful. Food – resource guarding – gets snappy with food, but as long as she’s fed alone, no problem. The off-the-record version – seeking food Welshie using play and treats. Nena lashed out and it was a scratch gone wrong. Don’t correct growling to get attention. Take away the stimulus the reward – if she growls they ignore her. She goes to her “away” place. In a minute or two she comes out and all is fine.
With other dogs, she plays appropriately if someone is there to supervise. She’s used to playing with little dogs. His dogs — all between 50 and 70 lbs — will walk away if she plays too rough.
Slowly socialize with other dog if in the home. Start on opposite sides of the house, then slowly introduce them.
I asked if he thought Phil & Becky are a bit too over cautious with her – if they worry too much – if they are hyper. He said absolutely. A laid-back home/owner who knows how to stay in charge will be great. As for kids, 10 or up will probably be fine.
I talked to the vet, Dr. Redden, because upon reviewing her vet records, I was amazed at how many times she had been seen at the vet, how many times Phil/Becky had called or emailed the vet. I got the impression that they over-react and are overly anxious themselves. That would definitely affect Nena’s emotional state. Dr. Redden said that Nena is wonderful at her office and gets along great with everyone. She said Nena needs someone who will let her be a dog. She agreed that they are over-cautious, but did add that Nena is “different.” She has a very low tolerance for pain (I did see that in the clinic notes). She said that after her spay, she was whining and restless and hunched over and they had to increase her meds. Also probably explains why she seemed to over-react to the psych meds.
I asked Tyson what kind of home he thought she should have, and he said he would love to keep her but he already has 3 dogs and lives in a trailer. She needs someone who knows dogs (vet said the same thing) and who will be firm and consistent with her to keep up her training and let her get lots of exercise and stimulation. She should probably be in an only dog home or perhaps another dog her size. She does “resource guard,” so introductions to another dog should be slow and careful.
Please review her post and this and tell me if you think any of your approved folks would work for her. No children younger than about 10, no small dogs, someone skilled with Airedales, someone who will absolutely provide mental and physical stimulation. If you do not think we have anyone, I want to put her on our web site, but don’t want to do that yet.

The woman I had hoped would be a potential home for him has nieces and nephews as young as 3 and 4, so her home would not be a good one for him.

I can’t remember if I asked you, and find nothing in my notes about it, but do you know how long Ziggy is accustomed to being alone during the day? When he’s left alone in the house, does he have free reign of the house or is he crated? And am I remembering correctly that he’s good with other dogs? (My notes are usually good, but I apparently didn’t save all of mine from our conversation.)

You mentioned that you thought he was being trained and maybe was even certified as a therapy dog. Can you verify/clarify that? If he is certified, please tell me the agency or organization that certified him.

I look forward to hearing from you and finding Ziggy a great home!

                              Hello,

I am reaching out on behalf of my mother, Debbie Myers, as she has a 1 yr old male Airedale (Albe) that she needs to look at re-homing due to her work schedule and her also moving. She is not able to give him the time and attention that he deserves and needs. Would you be able to contact her regarding how to do this and how your rescue group works as she very much loves the dog and does not want him to put down or to go to neglectful home?

Her phone number is 919-817-5541 and her email is DebMyers328@gmail.com.

                              Thank you,
                              Jill Langlois

I spoke o Deb Myers, the woman who owns this boy. He’s 16 months old, intact, and she does not want him to go back to the breeder in Myrtle Beach. Their place was dirty, the dogs were dirty, the puppies were dirty. She’s having a hard time with this and had tried to sell him on FB previously but had only one real potential, but the person was going to have to have radiation bc a cancer had come back. She said at one point, maybe she should contact them. We talked 35 minutes with me explaining our process and her telling me what a great dog he was. She is a private care nurse and works 5 days a week, 8-10 hours a day, and it just isn’t fair to him.

He’s had private training and knows when the E-COLLAR IS ON to come, but if it’s not, he might come. He’ll sit, he’s smart. The only bad habit is jumping on people when they come to the home. He’s a snuggler. Loves other dogs in the dog park.

She’s supposed to fill out the form and make an appointment to have him neutered. She said it may take a couple of days.

We should have no problem whatsoever placing a good 16-mo-old boy. In fact, Mandy Dugan told me yesterday she’s looking for a male, about 2 years old, good with children. I don’t know about him with kids, but we will soon.

11/04/19: Spoke to Joey Corns with Overwatch K9 Training and he will do a consult with Jazzy and see what he thinks. Gave him Jazzy’s history as Klaina and then with Bay. Stew is cooperating of course.

11/02/19: Stew & Joan drove to Ft. Mill and adopted Jazzy. First reports are great. She rode well on the way home in the backseat with Joan.
11/04/19: Stew texted and said she lunges after other dogs and Joan had a hard time handling her last night. Stew says they’ll need training.
