Linda is a great volunteer. She has transported and done home visits for us many times.
She will do the home visit for Jennifer & Jack Sexton in Hendersonville, TN.
In her email accepting the HV request, she told us that she broke her neck in an auto accident in May. Her Lucy died this past year and 2 months later her 21-y-o cat died. Tough year!

Linda Edwards will do the home visit. I’ve connected them.
September 21, 2022 at 5:49 pm in reply to: Private: 2022 Chris & Robin Colman, Mt. Pleasant, SC Fostering #29806Sent Cindy Green an email about Patton and she responded that she could not take Patton till after Oct 9th bc she & bruce will be on vacation.
I talked to Chris & Robin. They do not want to give up on Patton and she will be fine with them until then. I talked to them about a private trainer, Melissa Gray, Purely Positive Training in Mt. Pleasant, and committed to paying at least $395 which they list for initial 3 sessions. I’ve called Purely Positive and left a message and also sent an email to them thru their website https://www.purelypositive.com/private-training.Chris & Robin are terrific. They mentioned that Patton attacked Shiloh, without hurting her 1 hour after taking an initial dose of 300 mg of Trazodone on 09-20-22. Since then, Chris found mention of aggression as a side effect of Trazodone on a veterinary site and that dogs should be started on Traz on a low does, 100 mg, then increased to 200, then to 300 mg. Their vet started her on 300 mg. They said Patton is still acting drugged today and I advised that they take her to the vet tomorrow if she’s not better. They have a call in to their vet’s office already and will let me know what she says.
In the meantime, Shiloh has recurrence of her soft-tissue sarcoma and they may have to take her back to NCState.

We do not leave Cooper alone much. The most is 2-4 hours if out for errands, friends etc. She’s home by 3:30 or so. Pharm sales.
Cooper is our 3rd dale. They’re working with a trainer, had to live in apartment and she’s working with a trainer. All positive training. Jackie. She’s a great trainer. Cooper is a very good dog and they got him and had a senior dog. He’s been great. Moved a lot and he just goes along.
Ranger was our first as a puppy, Toby was our rescue from Atra and Cooper we got as a puppy.
Do you or do other caregivers have any physical limitations that would make it difficult or impossible to run after a loose dog or pick up a 50-70 pound dog?
Explain.: No we have done it all with our Airedales in past. I have learned to read them well to keep them from escaping. Her mom & dad had Welshies, one was an escape artist. Make sure gates/doors are closed. She uses baby gates throughout the house. She’s very cautious. In fenced yard they have just one gate and it has a lock.
I asked about the construction in their neighborhood (seen on google maps). Her street is done. They’re working on houses behind them. Her block is complete and behind her is complete. It doesn’t bother Cooper.
A typical workday: Cooper either has run of house, he likes to sit and watch out the window while Dad/our son works. Also lunchtime short walk. We understand that the new dog would need to be worked with to get to that point. We would crate train for nights. Cooper goes for at least one walk a day She is usually the one who takes Cooper to walk. Early a.m. As weather cools should be longer walks. We would do same with new pup. New pup would be in crate while we are not at home until trained to be able to be out. We do have a heavy gate that we put up to keep Cooper out of front and upstairs bonus room when not home. I also train Cooper with a great trainer working up to doing agility. Going to try to get Cooper in agility. Cooper doesn’t use the crate anymore. (She’ll send the name of the trainer!)Overall, the Sextons are quite experienced with Airedales, having adopted from Paula Lackner with ATRA 15 years ago. They are knowledgeable about Airedales’ flight risk, independence, and loving natures.
They will be great adopters and volunteers. She has helped transport several times for ATRA.
We just need a home visit!
____________Spoke to Julie at Indian Lake Vet’s. She’ll get in touch with the Sextons and call me back.

September 15, 2022 at 5:16 pm in reply to: 2022 Derek & Emily Murphy, Lewisburg, TN 37091, Dog Run, 3 children, 2 Dogs, 3+ Cats, Others #29778This is helpful! I want to jump through hoops if Jiggs is truly in need of a home. I love that he is a puppy and still training. We had to keep Tucker on a leash for 3 weeks when he showed up to get him acclimated to the chickens. Mind you, we only have 7 chickens and we can keep them in the run / coop.
Let’s start with a few videos. I will go door to door through the house. Through the farm. Through the big barns. And also, at my personal office, where the Airedale would be with me most of the time during the week.
As always, I am OK pulling back the reigns if you feel that is better. I just don’t want to miss an adoption opportunity with such a spirited Airedale.
Thank you for your guidance Jackie. This is all new to me, but super exciting! Let me know your thoughts.
__________
I told him to go ahead with the video.September 15, 2022 at 4:04 pm in reply to: 2022 Derek & Emily Murphy, Lewisburg, TN 37091, Dog Run, 3 children, 2 Dogs, 3+ Cats, Others #29777In response to Derek’s text asking about home visit:
Hi, Derek. We look for anything that could be a danger to an Airedale: Objects in the house or yard that could injure the animal — rakes, long extension cords, dangerous/toxic cleaning materials or pesticides/herbicides within reach, medications within dog’s reach, children’s toys that could be ingested, standing water, scrap metal not properly stored, missing fence material, holes in/under fences, etc.
It’s certainly not a “white-glove” exam.
The most important considerations are whether all of the family are in favor of the dog, are they capable of providing the best care — food, vet care, preventative care, physical & mental stimulation — and their care of and for their other animals.Right now my biggest concern for your family is how any Airedale would be with your cats, indoor and outdoor, and your chickens.
In lieu of a home visit, we will accept a video tour of your home inside and out, anywhere your Airedale will be allowed or have easy access to.
Also, have you begun construction on your new home? Your ‘dale would need to stay away from the construction site.
Let me know what you think, Derek.

September 14, 2022 at 5:13 pm in reply to: 2022 Derek & Emily Murphy, Lewisburg, TN 37091, Dog Run, 3 children, 2 Dogs, 3+ Cats, Others #29771Derek was on hold because (1) his Tucker was heartworm positive and had to get treated; (2) Corrie Anderson would not visit unless everyone in his home wore a mask. Initially, his wife would not, so we canceled and decided to wait until August or so for the HV.
Emailed Derek to make sure he hasn’t gotten another dog and depending on his response I will contact Corrie to see if she will do the HV w/o a mask.

Per Christina, they want a middle-aged dog, not a youngster.
September 14, 2022 at 4:09 pm in reply to: 2022 Brock Serna, Murfreesboro TN, Good fence, Not ADT exp, prev Scotties, 0 pets, 0 kids – adopted Cat 2023 #29768I called and emailed Brock re Jiggs and followed that with a text asking if he was still interested in adopting. He said he was but he had changed jobs. I followed asking how long the dog would be alone during the day. Crickets.
I’m not going to expend a lot of energy on Brock. He won’t respond.
September 13, 2022 at 8:59 pm in reply to: 2022-23 Jiggs, ~2 yo M/N, Johnson City, TN Shelter Foster with Nancy Harr #29762Nancy Harr will foster Jiggs (thank you, Christina!). She and her husband Paul have a huge house, 7000 SF, and the bottom floor is about 2600 SF and the dogs can run around down there as much as they want. They do NOT have a fenced yard but they have 6 acres where they walk their 2 dales on leash all the time. Male 4 years old, female 11 years old and still feisty. The male is quite partial to her husband, Paul. She hopes they all will get along, but if they don’t, we’ll find another place. I don’t particularly want Jiggs going back to Loretta’s boarding.
Loretta Cloyd is very nice, but she works away from home 4-1/2 days a week and only goes home at lunch to care for her dogs, cats and boarders.
