01/24/2020: Sent this email to all the above folks as blind cc:
We know you’ve been waiting for an Airedale for a long time. ARG has had only a couple of Airedales since October and they were special cases that went to previous adopters who could provide for their needs.
One of our sister Airedale rescue organizations, Airedale Terrier Rescue of the Virginias (ATRVA) has provided this information to ARG in the hopes that we have someone who might be interested in adopting this pair of dogs — one Airedale, one white golden-poodle mix. I’ve pasted in the information ATRVA provided to us:
Lila (golden-poodle, 55 lbs) and Baxter (Airedale, 70 lb) are doing great. They are quite comfortable here and fit in perfectly. Someone is going to be very lucky to get these two!
We took them on a 6 mile hike on Sunday in Bull Run. They met several other dogs on the trail and were very well behaved.
The only warning is they bark at everything, though far less than when they first got here. From the foster parents:
I have to say, Lila and Baxter are absolutely the sweetest dogs. While we carefully (emotionally) considered keeping them, four dogs are a lot of work and in the end we can’t keep the fosters furever (through NO fault of the pups). Honestly, I waffle because they are both so even tempered and fit in with our mellow boys. They will make a lucky family very happy!!!
Lila = cuddle bug/daddy’s girl. Love, love, love her!!!! She is so sweet and loves getting pet. A bit of a puller on walks but is great with a gentle lead collar. She is a treat stealer but when fed, she and Baxter go back and forth between bowls. She is a protector… when Baxter and Jameson play and start to get feisty (growly) she jumps in to protect her brother Baxter ( not aggressively, through barking and getting between them). Oh, and when she starts to bark, i.e. someone coming to the front door, it takes some time before she’ll stop.
Baxter the protector – back story, my dog’s are the silent type. Baxter is a talker. Dinner time, he paws the food bucket then turns and “growls” at us. It is his “I’m hungry” speech. When he wants to play (and he loves toys), he’ll brings a toy over, “growls”, then “Gives”, and fetches when thrown. He LOVES this game. He is very protective but has never nipped (has met a couple strangers), growls/ barks then licks. His growls, while sound scary/mean, are absolutely harmless (so far with us, our dogs, and 3 strangers meeting him). He does love to cuddle and is very obedient on walks.
Christmas day (only 4 days after getting them) we left them alone/ uncrated for 4 hours and zero issues (potty or destruction
From a destruction stand point, neither of our dogs destroy toys, to the point I stopped Barkbox because we have a over 30 toys for two dogs. These two have destroyed three toys so far… they love to find the squeakers!!! But statistically speaking, three toys in five days with access to 30 is nothing! 🙂
We have not introduced them to other dogs. Side note, neither dogs react to gun fire noise (NOT us, #boondock living).
At night, so far, they both stick to the upstairs and won’t come down/ stay in the bedroom (even when we bring their blankets down).
That’s all I have for now. We will miss the heck out of them when they find their furever home!12/22/19 First day in foster…
Good with Charlie and Jameson.
Walks- Lila is a bit of a puller on walks while Baxter is good to stay right next to me.
Food – no food aggression at all. Baxter prefers soft treats to hard treats.
First night – they both slept upstairs on the couch and dog bed. They were barky when the heater kicked in, but eventually got over it
Baxter – gets growly if approached from behind. And growls when playing, but that is 100% for fun.
Lila – when she starts to bark she is reluctant to stop.
Both are both cuddly and good finding their own place to sleep. If you are interested in learning more about this bonded pair, please let me know. ARG will work with ATRVA on the transport.

Subject: Transport of Duke Friday, January 24, 2020PLEASE REPLY ALL TO THIS EMAIL SO I KNOW YOU ALL HAVE RECEIVED IT!
Thank you for your help getting Duke, a 2-year-old, just-neutered Airedale, from the vet’s where he has been kenneled this week to his new home with Jennie & Tom Latimer. Duke will be traveling with his own collar and leash, a little of the food he’s been eating at the vet’s to transition him to his new food, his medical records, and his bed provided by his original owner. ( Karen, please make certain the vet’s office gives you all of this.)
Keep in mind that although Duke loves riding in the car, he has been kenneled for 1 week and now he’s on a road trip with new folks. He’s likely to be confused. Consider him a FLIGHT RISK. Please make certain his collar fits tightly (just 1 finger can fit under it) and that he cannot back out of it. Double collar and leash him; bring an extra collar and leash of your own just in case.
Secure Duke in the vehicle with either a seat belt or by closing the end of the leash in the car door so that before you even open his door, you have a hand on the leash.
Bring a water bowl and water to allow Odie to have a drink at transfer points.

Please communicate with each other if you are delayed. I’ve chosen meeting places that should be easy on/easy off the interstate; however, if you know of a better location, please communicate to the person you’re meeting to guide them. Hotels, Cracker Barrels, McD’s, etc. are good places to meet because they typically have green space and plenty of parking and you can keep well away from the roadway. When you hand off to the next person, please text me 901-438-5782.
Safe travels to you all and I hope the weather cooperates.Â
January 23, 2020 at 2:34 pm in reply to: Drizele (fka Grizele), 7-1/2 yo F/S, Adopted by Barbara Calhoon #2423301/23/2020: Hi Jackie–
I am working on Fridays except this Friday Bill has a doctors appointment so I could not do it for two reasons. But would be glad to help out when I can.
Drizele is doing very well. We feel very lucky to have her. We are putting eye drops in every night for “dry” eyes but other than that her health is good. She’s active, fits in with our life style well. She was friendly with our son’s dog when we took her with us to visit. She is really interested in any food close by so we have to watch her closely and protect food but we are working on rewarding “down” behavior near the table. She is not a counter surfer though. I feel really lucky about that. She learned “go to bed” very quickly because of regular rewards. We got her adjusted to regular dog food finally. Went through mixing cooked chicken with it, then chicken stock. I was going to stop there but tried water with it and she’s done fine. Healthy appetite now.  All in all I can’t imagine anyone giving her up but am very glad they did. Â
We’ll be glad to help in the future.

C 2. What do you know about Airedales? What qualities appeal to you? I like the exuberant personality. I love grooming and trimming. Going to the vet is not fun for her, as she hates feeling closed in. I have tried every invitation I can think of to get her to come in the house. We gave her some supplements for joint pain until we worked the weight off of her. Although she is getting older now,she moves quite easily as long as we keep her weight at 51 pounds.
E 11. Have you ever had a dog that ran away or escaped from your home or car? Please explain. I had a KerryBlue Terrier that was raised in a pet crate until she was 8 months old. I bought her from a pet store that could not handle her in any way. Took me 3 weeks to get her to let me brush her and sit in my lap. She was scared and snapped and bit me several times. The owner came in one night and saw me working with her. Watched me and her for nearly an hour… offered her to me for a rediculously low price. Any way…She spooked at loud noises. One afternoon, Pop decided to give her a bath and removed her collar. About that time, a dump truck came up the neighbors drive , Shasta took off like her tail was on fire. We never did find her. Looked all over for her for months. I hope whoever got her loved her as much as we did.
E 12. Have you ever had a dog hit by a car? Explain. Yes. I had a black lab named Maggie May Sing. She liked the sound of her own voice. She was a natural at fetch, went to work with me every day. Slept in the sunroom every night. With a hunting dog, I like to let them go through 1 heat cycle before having them spayed. Mags started her cycle at 10 months, I called to get her an appointment. And put her in an enclosed pen(60’×40′) with a large building for shelter. I took off for work. One of my cousins stopped by to borrow something that was in the building and let the dog out to play, not realizing she was in heat. Mag had never shown any interst in going down to the highway. She did on that day. Couple of teenagers hit her. Crushed her muzzle. I had the vet sleep her, because the vet said that she would never be able eat, breath, or fetch normally again.. I hated to lose my Mags, but I swear that young couple took the loss even worse than I did.
E 13. Under what circumstances would you give up a dog? If I were diagnosed with a terminal issue, I would will her to a family member so I could vist with her til the end and she could have a smooth transition to a new normal.
E 14. Have you ever had to give up a dog? Please explain your experience. No.

By submitting this form, I certify that the information I have provided is true and accurate. I am physically, emotionally, and financially able to care for an Airedale. I understand that Airedales require both physical and mental stimulation to thrive and I will provide both. I understand that Airedales that come into rescue may not have been trained or socialized properly and may need extra time, patience, and care to adjust to a new environment. This may include the need to attend pet obedience classes to help build a better bond with the new dog in the home. I understand that proper food and veterinarian care can be costly, and I am able to meet these needs. I agree that Airedale Rescue Group may check my veterinarian, groomer and personal references, as well as, my landlord, if applicable. She said when she left yoga class today she stopped by the cemetery to go by her father’s grave and the last thing she told him was to please send her an Airedale. That’s amazing!
They want Duke. She can’t pick him up Saturday however. She could probably get him Sunday or Monday.
In the meantime I called Karen Terry and she will pick him up and get him to her vet to get him neutered and bathed and I can get Jennifer to get him after that.

January 14, 2020 at 8:36 pm in reply to: Private: Lisa & Glen Meyers, Palm Coast, FL As of Aug 2020 #2418601/14/2020: Spoke to Lisa re Airedale posted on Airedale Terrier Owners Group in Macon, GA. She reached out to the man who posted, Greg Covington, and they had a good conversation and she told him she wanted the Airedale – a 2-year-old male, intact, who escaped his fence, ran after his dad in a truck, and ended up at a neighbor’s house and got in a fight with neighbor’s beagle. Beagle got hurt. He wants to rehome him because he’s afraid he’ll get shot or hurt another dog or child and be labeled a dangerous dog and will have to be put down.
Anyway, Lisa has his trust and told him she could pick up the dog, Duke, on Saturday. She would try to make it work with her Ellie, but if he didn’t work out would get him to ARG.
Lisa is 8 weeks out from a double mastectomy. She had the estrogen related breast cancer — same as her mom had 20 years ago — and opted for a double mastectomy.
