February 18, 2020 at 3:43 pm in reply to: James & Maureen Monteleone, Wake Forest, NC Current 5-1/2 yo FSADT, 6-8 hr alone #2435702/18/2020. Per Jess at Banfield: Up to date on everything and blood work, heart worm tests and preventative Tri-Heart Plus. Seen regularly. Any accidents or injuries? Nope! They take really good care of Wilson and she is on Dog Special Care Plan. there’s nothing that would make her question their ability to take care of another dog.
Great reference.
Also called Shelby, personal reference, and left voice mail. Shelby called back. She and Maureen work at Ace Hardware together and take care of the 3 “store” cats that keep the rat population in check. Maureen is a very loving person and takes excellent care of Wilson and treats her like her own child. No reservations.

February 18, 2020 at 2:23 pm in reply to: James & Maureen Monteleone, Wake Forest, NC Current 5-1/2 yo FSADT, 6-8 hr alone #2435502/17/2020: I spoke to both James & Maureen and found them to be knowledgeable and eager for another Airedale.
Ms Wilson is very reliable and they allow her in the front yard with them off-leash, free roam out front. If she gets 20-30 feet in front of them, they call her back and she always comes. She can start to go after a deer, and they call her back and she always comes. I told them how rare that is for an Airedale and that we require that they be kept on leash when they are not in a fenced yard. They do have a fenced back yard.
Where did Ms. Wilson come from?
They knew someone who rescues a lot of animals. She knew they wanted an Airedale and she found one! They don’t remember where she got her. Ms. Wilson will smack you in the face with her teeth. She thinks she’s still a puppy. She was 1-1/2 yr when they got her and stayed in a crate most of her life before they got her. She’s good with other dogs. I asked how she reacts when she sees other dogs, she likes them and wants to play. Their son has 2 dogs, one is a whippet, both are about Ms. Wilson’s size. She plays well with them.
They got their first Airedale in 1996; at one point had 2 Airedales.
Ms. Wilson is in good health and sees the vet Every 6 months. She’s accustomed to them being gone all day – even when they first got her; no problems. She once ate bedding they put in her kennel, so they stopped using bedding and now just a mat. But she’s free in the house when they’re gone.
They don’t walk her on the streets because of traffic. They’re way out in the country. So they take her to the park every day. When she approaches other dogs, she just wants to play.
They both work outside the home for the typical 8-5 day or 10-7. I asked if they were able to come home during the day to let their dog out or walk them and they said their daughter will sometimes come by for them if they need her to or they are going to be gone longer than normal. I asked if they would be able to take a few days off to acclimate a new Airedale to their home before they leave her/him all day and they said they can.
They go camping a lot and always take Ms. Wilson. They don’t take her to the beach if it’s going to be really hot. She loves the ocean and they sometimes camp during the cooler months and she goes with them.
They used a trainer with Ms. Wilson just to help them teach her not to pull on leash. Log Cabin Kennels; that’s also where they board her when they need to.
I told them to contact Banfield to tell them someone from ARG would be calling for a vet reference. They are ready for a home visit.

February 17, 2020 at 8:04 pm in reply to: Michael J. Klein, Auburn, AL (Lisa H. Nathan died 02-10-2020) #2435302/17/2020 Michael J. Klein called me in response to my email to Lisa Harry Nathan. She DIED on Feb. 10, unexpectedly. He is distraught and mentioned that they had lost their 16-y-o Havanese a few months ago and Lisa’s son has Tillie who lived with them off and on.
He is still interested in an Airedale but give him time. He has a trip planned in March and will contact me when he returns.

She’s nearly 1 year old. She’s different. She likes other dogs and wants to play but she’s too excitable right now.
They still would be interested in an Airedale if the right one comes along and she said they would consider female or Male!
