Has he been around children younger than this? Son 14 and daughter 12. They have 3 acres and he likes to be chased. No younger kids.
He’s been around large and medium dogs. He’s around horses.

02/24/2020: I would not put a rescued ‘dale in with them with a brand new rescue collie.

        Hold for now.

02/18/2020: They have turned down Zoey bc of her age and because she is strong and pulls on leash and one or both of them (I can’t remember what they said a week ago) have issues with their shoulder or elbow.

          Hold for while.

2/25/2020: Spoke with Al on 2/24/2020 in PM; has 1 dog a small pug/dachshund mix that his wife brought into the marriage. No ADT experience; we walked about how different the ‘Dale is compared to a bully breed. He knows someone with an “dale from the stable down the road and has been reading up on the breed. Would need to balance 15 mo old child and small dog to find the right dale.

02/24/2020: She sent a comment to our web site saying someone called her and apologized for taking so long and left a phone number. Carol called that number back and never got a return call.

I’ll call her today. She’s interested in Zoey.

2/24/2020 PAT: Talked with Carol; she is very interested in Zoey. No problem walking a dog as she has always done that. Had a Kerry Blue. Was concerned aboout cost of medications for Zoey. I followed with information on costs of about $8/mo for eye drop and $20/mo for fluoxitine if using GoodRX. Vet call went well. Zoar was well cared for and in his aging years they were often in the practice to make sure his pain was being managed. Kept up on vaccines and HW. Move forward with HV. Need to know Zoey’s issues.

2/25/2020: Claire Payne will do the home visit.

02/20/2020 Spoke to Haley at Dr. Chandler’s office and she immediately knew Morry Payne and said he was a great client and took excellent care of Bella and did everything he could for her. Kept her up to date on everything, saw specialists for her, and will make a great dad for an Airedale.

02/19/2020: I had a nice conversation with Morry Payne. He is still grieving for Bella, his boxer/pit mix who died 2 weeks ago. He said it is the hardest thing he’s ever dealt with. He got Bella from the Humane Society when she was about 1 and she was emaciated and timid. He walked her and she stuck right by his side and never left for the next 10 years.

He took her to Dominion Dog Training – a Cesar Milan style training – and dig beginner and advanced training, but didn’t go as far as the CGC. She went everywhere with him. He could go to a restaurant and put her in a sit/stay outside, always leashed, and she would just lie down and wait for him. The only time he was ever concerned about her was when she would see a cat. She once pulled away from him on leash to go after a cat and ran under a parked car. HE had to keep a good lookout for cats when bringing her outside.

He lives in a one-story townhouse that has no yard to speak of, so he would always take her to the park every morning and every evening. He didn’t take her to dog parks after an incident with another dog nipping at her and bothering her and just wouldn’t leave her alone. She turned and grabbed the dog by the neck and shook it. Dog was not hurt. He never went back. On weekends they go to Oak Mountain and walk the trails – 7 miles.

He is a Systems Analyst but works from home 3 days a week; in the office for 8 hours the other 2. He’s only 5 min from work so he can come home and did often with Bella, especially when she was younger.

He had foot and back surgery last year but has fully recovered. He has bad knees but needs to keep walking to keep them healthy. He goes to bed early, around 9, and gets up early, around 4, 4:30, and that’s when they go to the park, before a lot of other people/dogs get there. They probably do a mile in the morning, a few miles in the evening.

Her training used an e-collar, but he never did more than make it vibrate. He decided he didn’t like that and just quit using it and has never needed it.

Bella was a very laid-back, easy-going dog who was easily trained, never barked, always wanted to be by his side. He knows that with a rescued Airedale, that might not — probably will not — be the case. He said he’s up for it. When he got Bella, he didn’t know if she was house-broken, so he crated her, but came home about every hour or hour and a half to let her out of the crate to go potty. He would work with a new dog to teach it the house rules and to let them bond.

I’ll call his vet, then find a volunteer for home visit.
