That way you all can coordinate. Probably both meeting there at Mrs D’s house at same time and going in together is my idea.
I have heard about Mr Drummond’s truck – Sunshine only rides in his truck and Mrs D has kept his truck for Sunshine. I looked up where their house is in Northport and the google map shows a beautiful white truck in the driveway 🙁Christina Prange

Sunshine is age 11. She will be 12 in April. Good with other dogs – her husband used to take her to the dog park. Hates cats!
She takes medication for a bladder issue which is actually urinary incontinence. I spoke to her veterinarian and there is some inconsistent use of the medication, she believes.
Mrs Drummond continues to talk about Sunshines’s bad hip and Sunshine falls down.Mrs Drummond was very emotional when I spoke to her. She said she wants someone to pay attention to Sunshine.
More details in a summary email to you and Mary but is 2:00 ok for you?

Hi Mary – We still need some help with the Airedale Sunshine. As Pat explained, it would be better for 2 people to go and evaluate Sunshine. We have found another person to go! She is a college student at Alabama. Her name is …. Mary! Her mom has adopted ARG ‘dales from us for a long time – I’ve known of Mary since she was a little girl! She also works for a veterinary practice in Tuscaloosa! It happens to be Sunshine’s vet practice. It is too difficult for Sunshine’s owner to get her to the vet for an eval. This is because Sunshine is limited mobility; she has to jump into a truck to get into the vehicle and her owner is not able to drive the truck – a neighbor has to drive for her. (It was her husband’s truck and she has saved it for Sunshine)
Ideally we would like to coordinate a day that you and Mary could go together to Sunshine’s home; meet Sunshine; evaluate her – video, talking to each other etc. Is there a day that you can do this – How far are you from Tuscaloosa? Would a weekend work best for you?

Mary Bruce is a college student in Tuscaloosa. She is pre-vet! She works at a vet practice in Tuscaloosa. Mary will be back in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday; classes start on Wednesday. Mary can go with Mary Ragan to evaluate Sunshine. I will coordinate the two Mary’s with Martha for the eval.I spoke to Carla, who is a neighbor(?) to Martha Drummond (sp). Did not learn anything new that Pat had not reported. I did get the vet name and practice. Dr Ellen Newsome at Tuscaloosa Animal Hospital. This is not where Mary Bruce works.
Carla mentioned again that Sunshine is in pain; she cannot get up on her own. I said what is her pain from – she said bad hip. She said it has gotten worse over the past couple of months.
Repeated what Pat said to Carla but I think Carla has little influence on Martha. Carla gets it but it is Martha’s dog and way. Carla has the relinquishment info now – she would need to do that for Martha online
Next step – coordinate when Mary and Mary can go together to meet Sunshine.

It sounds as though the dog is having a urinary incontinence issue as well.
The friend of this woman wants to ask if we had a chance of taking the dog into rescue. I had a lengthy conversation about the possibility that Sunshine Likely needs to be euthanized. Apparently Martha wants nothing to do with that.
They are in Tuscaloosa, Al. We were hoping to find someone willing to evaluate the dog on the behalf of Airedale Rescue Group. Please let me know if you think this is something you could do.

Thank you, Jenelle. Yes, I could open the document and see that he received his vaccines yearly from 2015 to 2017.Your Yorkie did not receive heartworm preventative, a dangerous gamble for any dog in the South where mosquitoes are present virtually year-round. We require that Airedales adopted through us be maintained on heartworm preventative as well as flea/tick preventatives.
It also concerns us that you chose to have King Zen euthanized rather than have him cared for by the ER vet overnight and have further testing on his suspected pancreatitis and sepsis as recommended by your vet. It is not unusual for a Yorkie to live to be 13-16 years old. The vet said he was 8 or 9; you said he was 10. We are concerned that you would not go the extra mile to care for an Airedale, which because of its size can require more expensive medical care.
We will not approve your application to adopt an Airedale.

January 26, 2023 at 7:06 pm in reply to: 2023 Jenelle Gibbs, Fayetteville GA, Good fence, No ADT Exp, No pets, 2 Children, 0-2 hrs alone #30146From Jackie to Jenelle:
Hello, Jenelle: I am following up on Jo-Anne Bates’ interview with you about adopting an Airedale. She spoke to the vet you used for your Yorkie, Fayetteville Medical Vet Center. You stated on your application that he had gastro issues because of a change in the dog food you were feeding. The vet’s office told Jo-Anne that they had seen your Yorkie in 2014 for an exam and Metacam (there were no records saying why they gave it). There were no records of any vaccines or exams. On 8/2/17 he was brought in showing symptoms of lethargy and could not stand by himself. Their notes said they examined him and said he needed more testing and recommended that you transfer him to the ER for overnight care. The notes say they suspected pancreatitis and possible sepsis. They report that you declined to do that due to lack of money for the bill and had him euthanized. Please tell us: 1) did you take him to any other vet between 2014 and when he was euthanized in 2017; 2) were his vaccines kept up to date, and if so where were they done; 3) did your Yorkie receive flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, and if so where did you purchase them; 4) why was he taking Metacam.
We look forward to your response.
Thank you for considering a rescued Airedale.

To the Home Evaluator: This form can be used when doing a home visit to evaluate a potential family for a rescued Airedale. Adoption or foster applicants you are visiting have already met preliminary criteria by having their Adoption Application accepted and have passed the telephone interview.
When doing a home visit, please attempt to get as much information as asked for on this form. Ask questions, where appropriate, and get as many details as you can about the home environment. Some of the questions on this form may not apply to this home so use your own judgment.
If possible, bring a friend or another rescue volunteer with you on the home visit. This helps both for the purpose of having another pair of eyes and ears to assist you in making a complete evaluation and for your own personal safety.

[Include type of furnishings, flooring, and general appearance. For example, “antiques with museum atmosphere,” “shabby furniture,” “brand new furniture and/or carpet,” “badly stained carpet,” “hardwood/ vinyl flooring with some carpet/rugs,” etc.]
The Sexton home is clean, neat, and nicely furnished while being comfortable and dog-friendly and accommodating. The floors are manufactured hardwood except for the bonus room upstairs which is carpeted. Apart from the bonus room, all the open plan living space in on the ground level with direct access to the backyard.Accommodations:

Will the dog ever be left chained out or left unattended in a fenced-in yard? Describe the fencing, if any, and consider security of fence.]
Current dog Cooper has access to all of the house except the office which he is kept out of when the family is not home. His bed is in John and Jennifer’s bedroom and his food and water bowls are in the kitchen; the same would be true for a new dog. When the owners are not home, a new dog would be crated until proven to be reliable when unrestricted in the house. The dog would have access to the fenced yard from the living area adjacent to and open to the kitchen; however, the dog would not be left in the yard when the owners are gone nor for long, unsupervised periods of time, as it the case for Cooper. The fence is 5’ wrought iron with closely spaced vertical bars and appears very secure.Children:
[Give ages of children, if any, and pay special attention to the behavior of the children, the parents’ responses and method of discipline, and the children’s interactions with other pets. Note whether parents always supervise young children with other pets and if the parents seem to expect the child/children to be “responsible” for the care of the pets.]
The Sexton’s have a 24 y/o son who currently lives with them. Although he was not in the home for 2 of Cooper’s 4 years there, they are buddies and he clearly misses Patrick when he is gone. Patrick is the one who brushes Cooper’s teeth.Family Environment:
[Describe the behavior of the adults among themselves, and to any other pets or children. Are they respectful, hectic, noisy, loud, quiet, commanding, etc.?]
The atmosphere in the home was calm, comfortable and inviting. All three adults related easily and appropriately with each other (and with Cooper) and there were no apparent tensions. There was frequent laughter and sharing stories about previous Airedales the Sexton’s have had.Life-Style Compromises:
[Has the applicant thought through life-style compromises pet ownership will require? Give details.]
Given that the Sexton’s already have an Airedale in the home, they are well aware of the demands and compromises of pet ownership and have routines and schedules adapted to
meet the needs of their pet (s), whether one or two. They have typically had two Airedales at the same time in the past and look forward to having two again.Other Pets:
[Describe number, type, age, and gender of the other pets and give complete description of their apparent health and well-being. Things to note would be skin or flea problems, condition of nails, overweight or underweight, type of collar, id tags other pets have, etc.]
Cooper is a 4 y/o male, neutered Airedale. He was calm and reserved when meeting me, staying close to Jennifer, but soon approached me to sniff and allowed me to pet him and later happily took a treat from me. By the time the Sexton’s and I had visited for a while, he was quite comfortable with my presence and lay on the floor by Jennifer’s feet and napped.
Jennifer and Cooper are currently working with a trainer to increase Cooper’s confidence. He is clearly not an alpha dog and Jennifer thinks he would like another dog to assume the leadership role. Cooper is healthy and very good-looking in appearance. His coat was groomed and he appeared very solid and muscular.Owner Interaction with Other Pets:
o Describe the relationship all family members seem to have to other pets.
All three adults have caring, easy-going relationship with Cooper – he is clearly the 4th member of the family. Jennifer and John share responsibility for him. Cooper loves to “rough-house” with John and is responsive to him but Jennifer is clearly his primary attachment and he stays close to her.
o What role will the dog play in applicant’s life?
As noted, Cooper is a member of the family and a second dog will be a full-fledged member as well. He will hang out with them, go for walks and hikes, and be included on trips when appropriate.o Are the other pets treated like family members?
Yes, these are the kind of pet owners who have their dog radar on at all times – aware of where the dog is and/or what the dog is doing whether it is in eyesight or not.
o How do the other animals behave
Cooper is calm, well-behaved, and responsive to verbal commands.
o If applicant is looking for an additional dog, or cat why does applicant what another?
Cooper would enjoy and benefit from the play and companionship of a second dog in the house and the Sexton’s miss having another dog in the family.
o Does applicant believe that the new dog will “train” old dog or vice versa?
Probably a little of both – a more assertive dog would be a good leader for Cooper and Cooper’s calmness and compliance would be good modeling for another dog.
o Has applicant ever owned more than one dog or cat at the same time?
Yes, the Sexton’s have usually had two overlapping Airedales most of the time.
o Is applicant prepared for the increased work, expense [including vet cost], and commotion?
Yes, well aware and prepared.
o How committed is adopter?
Very – this seems to be a well-thought decision timed to occur once they were settled into this house after several moves.
o What are the owner’s responses to behaviors good and bad?
Jennifer’s responds calmly and firmly to Cooper when needed (i.e., once when she thought he was going to jump up on me) and reinforced his compliance with a treat (he is very food driven).
o Do owners demand perfection or have unreasonable expectation regarding behaviors?
No, they appear to be very realistic about behavioral expectations.
Do other dogs in the home obey happily?
Yes, no issues noted.
o Are the other dogs out of control and undisciplined?
No
o Do the owners appear to know some basic training techniques?
Yes, and have worked with trainers when needed.
o How do the animals react to the owner’s response?
Agreeable and compliant and treat-motivated.Important Question to Answer:
o Explain that re-homing a dog is stressful for the dog.
o That often the rescued dog they want to adopt or foster may have training accidents, even if they are housebroken, while they are in their new home or foster care, for the first few weeks.
o Ask the applicant what they would do or how they would react to the new dog having an accident. What was their reply?
Jennifer and John have fostered before and are aware of stress-related behaviors what may occur. They will use a crate initially as a new dog settles in, both as a safe place and to prevents accidents while a predictable routine is being established. Accidents will be cleaned up without scolding and the dog taken outside immediately.Additional Information:
o Please describe any additional information about the home environment that you feel is pertinent.
o Is there anything in general or specifically that would cause you to feel uncomfortable about placing a dog or cat in this home?
o If so, what?
o “Gut feelings” are considered important. Would you feel comfortable leaving your own Airedale with the applicant?
I would have no qualms or concerns leaving my dog with the Sexton’s. They are caring and knowledgeable pet parents with a high degree of commitment and investment in their pets.
Conclusion:X Approve Applicant

________________________________________Additional Suggestions to The Home Evaluator:
• If you need to take notes during the visit, please do so discreetly on a small note pad, rather than on this form. It is preferred that the applicants feel at ease with you and to be themselves. Complete this form after the visit is over, when you are not in the presence of the applicants.
• Qualities to note are sincerity, commitment, tolerance of normal animal behavior, honest representation of the home environment, children’s behavior with other pets, and expected role of the children in pet care. Obtain explanations about the absence of any family members during the visit. Feel free to ask leading questions to begin productive conversation. Often good conversation will reveal far more than questions.
• Do not make any promises to the applicants or indicate whether they will be approved to adopt or foster. Please refrain from discussing any animal presently in rescue that may become available for adoption.

Their vet started her on 300 mg. They said Patton is still acting drugged today and I advised that they take her to the vet tomorrow if she’s not better.
