Jeff gives him treats. Sue walks him early or late to avoid other dogs. Jeff will not walk him. Sue doesn’t say why. She said he is being so sweet; they’ve not had any other incidents of him being growly or lunging at Jeff or her and he is so smart and listens to her well.
She told me not to worry about him.
03-31-2020 He responded to my text that Etta is going to a woman who bought a pup from his which died recently at 13 years old.
No prob. Etta probably would have cost us $$$.
March 31, 2020 at 5:05 pm in reply to: Russ Thomas & Cody, Mint Hill, NC, Not ADT exp., 6 hr alone, 2 Yorkies #2463203-30-2020 Had a nice convo with Russ yesterday. Cody is his partner, plus they have some roommates staying with them right now while they look for a house. I don’t understand how many; stay until C-19 is done. Russ owns his own hair salon with 9 “girls” working for him. He works 3 days a week, Cody works only 2 days a week. Russ goes in around 8, comes home from lunch around 1; Cody works Wed & Thur and goes in around 9 or 10 and comes home for lunch around 2. So their yorkies have someone home between 1 and 3 daily. Roommates get home around 5.
They have 2 Yorkies that they adore and are with them all the time, one lying on one of their shoulders, the other in the other’s lap. They play in the fenced in back yard so they don’t have to walk them really. Never take them to day care or dog parks because they don’t trust other people to keep their dogs up to date. They do go his mom’s house and she has 5 dogs, from 70 lb pit-boxer mix to a 10 lb chihuahua-mix. They all get along great. (I don’t think I can see a 70lb Airedale liking this. Could be wrong.)They had a Welshie that had a lot of GI problems – diarrhea and vomiting – when she was about 2; they changed her food because she was “allergie” to Blue Buffalo because it had “too much pH.” Changed to Royal Canin (I am thinking it is the breed specific kind). Welshie also had surgery – luxating patella on one knee, then about 6 months before she died she had the other knee done. She eventually developed meningitis and they spent over $10K to get her tested, see specialists, MRIs, spinal fluid testing, etc., and she just went downhill very fast. (Meningitis typically is caused by a long-lasting infection that eventually goes to the brain.) They don’t know what the original infection was.
He has rescued other animals for short periods. One was a stranger on FB who was going to put down her pit bull bc she couldn’t find it a home; wanted $200 for it. He contacted her and said I’ll bring you $150 cash right now and got the pup. It was a wonderful dog and he found it a good home. In another situation, a neighbor a couple of streets over had a minpin that he kept in a pen outside but it kept escaping. Russ took it home several times and finally told the man if it gets out again and comes to my house, I’m not bringing it back. It did. He had a friend who was looking for a small dog. That pup lived to 15 with his friend and just died a year ago. He also fostered a cat for his grandmother for a short time when she was sick.
They have a house in Myrtle Beach aside from this one in Mint Hill, NC. Go there often and take their dogs.
They have converted the formal dining room to the dogs’ room complete with their food, water, crates, and bed. The dogs are gated there when they’re gone. The dogs are with them wherever they are in the home when sitting around watching tv or out by the pool.
They haven’t really done any serious training for a dog. The Yorkies were just very easy to do and the Welsh just did what they wanted, but was hard headed. I explained that Airedales will absolutely require training and that lasts all their lives.
Called Mint Hill. They need his permission to tell me anything.
They wrote that they were interested in Banjo. I don’t think so.

D 2. Do you or do other caregivers have any physical limitations that would make it difficult or impossible to run after a loose dog or pick up a 50-70 pound dog? Explain. No
D 3. How many hours will the dog be alone daily? Zero. There is always someone home
D 4. Describe how the dog would spend a typical workday or weekend at your home. Where will the dog stay when you are at work or out of the house? I’m retired and mostly home. I live in an apartment downstairs with my daughter and family. My daughter also works from home. We would like a dog that has been crate trained but not necessary. If we are out to go to church on Sunday mornings or for dinner in the evening as a family, that would be about the extent of being alone. If the pup is house trained and can be alone, then the run of the house if we’re not home is a okay.
D 5. What areas of your home or yard are off limits for your dog? None. Well, except front yard – leash only.
D 6. What activities would you like to share with your dog? Walking, playing and snuggling

D 10. a. If yes, describe the times or reasons you would use a crate. I always used a crate for a young pup for potty training if I wasn’t home. But once they were house trained the door was always left open and became their safe haven to snooze or just be a quiet place. My dogs were also raised with kids and sometimes they just want quiet. I don’t believe in creating otherwise ( well, maybe if there was a worker in the house). To me a dog is family.

I understand that Airedales require both physical and mental stimulation to thrive and I will provide both. I understand that Airedales that come into rescue may not have been trained or socialized properly and may need extra time, patience, and care to adjust to a new environment. This may include the need to attend pet obedience classes to help build a better bond with the new dog in the home. I understand that proper food and veterinarian care can be costly, and I am able to meet these needs. I agree that Airedale Rescue Group may check my veterinarian, groomer and personal references, as well as, my landlord, if applicable. Home visits will be conducted prior to and following an adoption to ensure the safe-keeping of the Airedale. ARG reserves the right to decline adoptions. Full name: Breanin mckenzie
Date: 3/29/2003/28/2020: I had a long conversation with Bree, the woman who emailed as Kitie Lee McKenzie
1-817-308-8352
They got Maggie in December from Judy Beitzel. Maggie was about 4 months old.
They’ve had her in training with different trainers: First trainer put her on some special calming water and calming chews and used clicker training. She didn’t really respond to the clicker. They did some in home training – using positive praise – not food driven and when she does well, she gets to play. That seems to work better.Thyroid tested and full work up on her. Started her on Puppy Prozac, but Bree didn’t like using that.
I asked about a typical day – They are very active and have two beautiful wonderful active children – an 8 year old and a 4 year old who is slightly autistic. Three other canines – 11 yo GD, 13yo STB, new addition 8 months Irish Wolfhound and 11 giant breed bunnies. Maggie loves kids, gentle. Dogs go out 3x a day half acre fenced. put hot wire to keep her from going under the fence. They got her Dec – 4 months old. they didn’t see the fear behavior because the dogs were always together. She was baby and new, needed time to decompress. Not as fearful until she came back from The inlaws; inlaws loved her.
All the dogs are in at the same time. Therapeutic mattress x 2 on a futon blocked off and they sleep together. Have tried Thundershirt and calming probiotics and switched off food – trainer suggested a raw diet. Soft coat. Groomed and shaved her. she’s a stay at home and a licensed vet tech and has tried to make Maggie’s world safe. Ok w cats, rabbits.
Had her since Dec and have done all they could. They stay in contact with the vet. Terrified of the sound bags make – crinkle bags makes her shake. She’ll send videos for me to see.

Subject: Re: Release Form on Buddy –Morning, Cindy. I appreciate your thoughtful, reasoned response to our situation with Buddy. I don’t now whether the owners will attempt to work with Buddy to keep him separate from Leo (and their grandchildren) and provide the exercise and attention he needs.
We will have to take a serious look at what we can and cannot do for Buddy and for the Monasts. I will reach out to other groups and see if they have anyone who would be appropriate.
In the meantime, I fear that we may see an uptick in Airedale surrenders as well. Shelters everywhere are seeing it and begging for foster homes.
I hope you and Bruce continue to be well and that he doesn’t have to travel for a while. Thank you, again, Cindy.
Stay safe and well, all.

wrote: Jackie,
I have read the info on Buddy and appreciate the quick answers to my questions. I have given this considerable thought as we are in unusual circumstances right now with very a uncertain course over the next several weeks.
Reading the owners replies and details was very insightful. I am guessing this is a nervous, insecure dog that has been in a home lacking the leadership and guidance needed to keep him on the straight and narrow. I checked out the trainer and program they used in Texas . Nothing wrong their except appears obedience training was not coupled with structure in the home. So still a confused dog with regards to his place in the family.
Only a guess how much work will be needed to turn this guy around. But my concern at this point is he has a bad rap sheet with significant damage to another dog more than once. Perhaps not intentional as he is a big guy and it is clear they made some foolish mistakes and assumptions particularly with the newest dog. Can’t say without working hands-on with him how entrenched Buddy is in this behavior .
I am sure you know I would normally say “bring it on”. But circumstances are different. From past experience these dogs are tough to adopt out because we must be honest in telling their stories and diligent in seeking someone that is very committed to taking on a dog that may be a lifetime management commitment. As hard as it is to place these types of dogs under normal circumstances, I fear things just became even worse. We had a sudden uptick of dogs surrendered this week at our local shelter . Continued layoffs will bring even more surrenders. I have no dilutions that if I take this boy it will probably be for an extended period.
Thus I would ask that you have the owners keep this dog in place (with separation and regular exercise away from other dogs) for the next two weeks until we all have a better handle on the Covid situation . I consider Bruce and I to be very healthy for our age but Bruce has a history of being very susceptible to Pneumonia and Bronchitis so this virus very could be very serious for him. I Note he has been traveling on business up until a few days ago the including through an international airport.
If things settle then I think I can foster Buddy and see if I can get him in a better state of mind. Resource guarding can sometimes be a straight forward issue to turn around given their is followup . Hope that would be the case for Buddy. If you have an immediate foster volunteer I would be more than happy to provide any guidance or coaching to help Buddy get on track for a successful adoption.Thank you as always for the opportunity to help Airedale rescue,

1- no he will not crate. When we first rescued him he wouldn’t go near one. Seriously he panicked when I finally got him in one.. so I just let him out and he was in my laundry room while he got used to us. He does fine alone in a room. Before this present situation; we were separating him and Sammy by leaving Buddy in a spare room. He’s never been destructive. Never chewed furniture or messed in the house except when he had the parasites.
2. Sammy required vet care was time. Stitches, and the third time was the worse. As Buddy grabbed him by the head. You have seen sam and when buddy grabbed him he almost got the carotid. He had to have a two layer closure.
My sons dog did also need to have the toepad stitches. ( 6 stitches). Leo did not. It was mostly scrapes and 1 small puncture wound that we cleaned and applied neosporin.3. The e collar is for walking and was also a training tool initially. To get his attn.. learning the basics w it and they were doing a lot of off leash and in the community etc. getting him near wheelchairs/scooters/bikes. You get it..
But after that initial training it was really just an aid for walkingOn Fri, Mar 20, 2020 at 1:44 PM Jackie Cash < airedalemail@comcast.net> wrote:
Hi, Cynthia. Here is the release form on the Airedale we talked about.
To answer your text questions:
Is he crate-trained or kennel trained? Owner says they were unable to even get him in a crate, and does not choose the option “crate-trained” in the section, “Airedale is (check all that apply)” below.
Did the fights in the home result in veterinary medical attention? No mention of veterinary treatment for dogs’ injuries, but the toe-pad injury sounds like it would’ve required it.
Was the e-collar training just basic obedience or did trainer attempt to correct with the e-collar? Unsure based on her description below. They still use the e-collar while walking.
Pat: Can you check with Jeanne on these questions?I appreciate your considering this boy for us. Let me know if there are other questions.

Reason for giving up Airedale Buddy has become too possessive/protective of myself and my husband. We rescued Buddy from Airedale rescue in Rescue at the age of 14 mos. His history was sketchy at best… When he came to us he was very distrustful, anxious to the point of not being able to be crated at all, I couldn’t even get him in a car. The vet had to come to our home to see him. He had worms/ tape and hook, requiring 3 rounds of treatment.. He also developed Seasonal Alopecia. We tried 2 different trainers, the second trainer was fairly successful and utilized an E-collar. But Buddy has a very strong personality and started to show signs of aggression.. initially it was doorbell aggression, where he would get so incredibly wound up that he picked up my 14 lb dog and shake him in his excitement. This caused major wounds about the head and neck on 3 separate occasions. Back to the trainer we went. We actually spent 2 years w this trainer. My husband took him 3 times a week and Buddy sept 3 weeks in this trainers home. Buddy also had an episode where my son and his small beagle mix came to visit and both dogs spotted a piece of kibble under the counter. In the race/fight to get it, Buddy chewed the beagle’s toepad off. We also had a larger poodle mix that he tried to tussle with but that dog wouldn’t stand for it .. so there were no issues there. That dog has since passed. We have noticed of late, that Buddy has seemed a little more irritable. He has growled inappropriately at our grandchildren, if they just reach out to pet him when he is near them. 1 week ago, I brought home a 12 yo smaller airedale (42 lbs) . Buddy was ok with him at first. The newer Airedale followed Buddy around, He is sweet and gentle and very docile. Buddy seemed to be ok with him and we thought all was going to be ok. Then a couple of nights ago, Buddy was lying on his bed almost asleep, we were sitting about 8 feet from him and the newer Airedale walked near us and about 10-12 feet from Buddy and came close to Buddys toy. Out of nowhere Buddy came flying and LUNGED at the new Airedale. If we hadn’t been right there, I do believe he would have caused serious if not deadly harm to to Leo, (new Airedale.) We had to pull him off.. it took 2 of us. That just shook us to our core. This could have been one of our grandchildren and we knew then he couldn’t stay. We love Buddy so so much. He is a great dog. We know he loves us and this is incredibly tough for us, but we have to put our grandchildren and our other dogs first. He has gone to daycare and been boarded, and done very well with the dogs there. We believe it is when WE are present, or his toys are present that there is an issue. Buddy could prob do well in a home that could give him trial of meds to calm him. Also no other dogs to compete with. I just cant take the chance that the meds may not work. We have never ever given up on a dog.. and our prayer is that he goes to a loving home.
Dog currently lives with: a) number of adults: 2b) if children, age of children: none that live here

Any other medical treatment Buddy had seasonal alopecia at age 2. per vet we treated him with melatonin 3 mg twice daily and salmon oil .. we did this for about 2 years and then discontinued it as his coat came back beautifully. Hes not had a recurrence. Hes also had GI issues since the hookworm where his stools often are loose. Vet says this sometimes happens to dogs that are on the treatment for as long as he had to be. He does pretty well on Royal Canin GI mod food. And I also give him only Hills Rx diet hypo treats. He gets nothing else.. no table foods etc bc that will set him off. If he does get a bout of loose stool I give him Endosorb.. per the directions.. He also will get loose stools when anxious… and the vet will give me an rx of flatly for that.
Dog’s best qualities are: Super loving to HIS ppl. very protective. Loves to play frisbee.
Dog’s worst qualities are: Dog dominant.
not the best walker, but better than he was on a leash

March 18, 2020 at 3:53 pm in reply to: MARCH 2020-Tara Ward, Statesboro, GA ADT exp., 0 pets, 2 children, 6-8 hr alone #2457403/17/2020: Adopted Jake from ARG – Christina Prange – in 2008 and husband was in military and deployed. She’s allergic to pretty much every dog. Went to north GA to pick him up. Ex deployed a couple of times. No children and no pets. Then once she gave birth and Jake lunged at the baby. Husband demanded they get rid of him; husband had been bitten by a dog when he was a child. Tara said Jake was a Great dog, walked great on leash. She thinks he was adpted quickly.
Since then no other dogs.
Her children love animals; all their friends have animals. She’s allergic to everything. Wants another Airedale. Children are older. They live with her one week, then the ex-husband one week.
After school activities: daughter runs track home around 5; son has baseball practices, at the park close to their home. They can take pets with them.
Working – outside – teaches school. English ASL – kindergarten – 5th grade
Hours at school 7:30 to 3:00. She could run home if she had to. She’s at one school 3 days & can come home; the other school not allowed to leave. Hopefully going full time at 3-day school and will be able to come home.Normal day: get up at 5, get the kids up at 6, breakfast, bus at 6:45 and she leaves at 7:15. Home shortly after 3, pick up daughter at track, then home for the afternoon unless baseball. Then take dog to the park or baseball practice or walks. I asked about her walking the dog in the morning before she heads out. Doesn’t sound like she can do that.
Wants dog to have free roam of the house so they can be on the couch or relaxing in the house. Doesn’t want to crate them, but in the afternoons, walks or take to baseball park.
Huge back yard and have gotten quotes for fencing $5000-6000 to fence. They may fence a small portion. They have rabbits and deer. It would have to be on a leash. She would make sure her Airedale was on leash. The children will help care for the dog. They currently have chores around the house — they do their own laundry, help with dishes – loading and unloading dishwasher, clean their rooms, they’re responsible kids. Love to play with friends’ animals. They would be very helpful with dogs. They’re used to large dogs.
There are a few dogs in the neighborhood but they’re always on leash. She would work with a trainer and knows of one she met a couple of years ago. Uses only positive reinforcement.
(Where she said on her app that she was interested in Roxy, she meant Zoey.)
She’s ready for a home visit, but I can’t find anyone near Statesboro!
