Background: Maggie-Moo is quite anxious and timid. Bree sent me videos of Maggie that who her (1) trembling in a crate with other family dogs in a crate next to her; her crate door is open and Bree is stroking her and talking to her; (2) outside with children squealing, playing and she is on leash, tail-tucked and trying to get away from everything; (3) walking hesitantly through the garage with lots of stuff in it but her path is basically clear, getting to the door to the house and starting & stopping at the doorway. She then runs into the house through a couple of rooms and into the main room and jumps up on her bed. It’s a day bed that she and the other dogs (3!) all sleep on. Bree also sends me videos of (1) Maggie in obedience class with a handler (I think; not sure if it’s Bree) doing ok, hesitant; (2) Maggie approaching then hesitating but walking through the horizontal ladder; (3) Maggie off leash on their property with Bree talking to her. Maggie is tail up and staying with Bree. Amazing!

I think we’ve missed our window, Bree. NC has a stay-at-home order and SC has it in some places — Columbia and Charleston but with cases reported in every county. I don’t think moving an animal would be considered essential travel.
Please work with Maggie on being calm and maybe we can figure out a solution.

Thank you so much.
Please please please warn people about her breeder, I wish there was more I could do. Her breeder had two other litters since Maggie, this is from from bad breeding. With everything going on I don’t know who I could get her into Nc. But I’ll surely try.

The Jordans were very interested in her but then we’re all on lockdown. I sent Bree several articles and links on anxiety in dogs and at some point she said she was going to try to work with the trainer again. The trainer picked up Maggie from them and took her to her home/facility (?) and Maggie immediately escaped from her and ran into the woods adjacent to her property. The trainer could not coax her out and didn’t want to chase her. Trainer called Bree and she came over and called Maggie and Maggie came running to her.
That concerns me because I fear she will try to bolt, run away from anyone other than Bree and transporting could be very dangerous.
The Jordans are still interested, but Bree is not a good communicator and doesn’t answer specific questions. She responded to an email that because her husband has to travel back and forth to WA for Boeing, she and the kids have to stay isolated. She did not respond to my question or whether she still wanted to surrender Maggie.
I texted her again today to ask. 04/15/2020.

From Pat Hairston:All,
I received this from Jeanne this morning via Facebook.
I just don’t know how to respond. Any advise is appreciated.
Pat, its probably Buddys last week here with us.. this was a hard weekend for us. We are really troubled by the write up on him on the ARG website. IT really has him looking like a ferocious dog ready to attack. Idk who in their right mind would ever consider taking him on. Seriously… I get the Airedale from ATRA, and I always read about Sparedales.. etc, and never have I read anything so daunting. I do know you are trying to be forthcoming, as TART was NOT w us. I do get that.. However, lets be honest… who will take on a dog after reading that? We are pretty much resigned to putting Buddy to sleep if you cant say there has been someone who has expressed any interest in him. It is our firm belief that Buddy being in a kennel will only make his behavior worse. We know from experience how he is after being kenneled. It is why we have paid top dollar to have a dog sitter stay in our home whenever we go away. After a few days in the best kennels with daycare included he is just a wreck… Diarrhea for days, frantic.. etc. He just doesnt do well. He will have all sorts of GI issues and start to lose his hair again. I also believe his aggression will worsen bc he will be so anxious. I cant do that to him. We both believe he would be best off and we would be better dog parents to let him go to eternal sleep surrounded by us, lovingly and peacefully then to go through that. I hope you can understand this…
JMC: I don’t know what to tell her.

April 12, 2020 at 3:27 pm in reply to: Private: Remy, M/N Charleston, SC Adopted Amy Rauhauser #2468504/12/2020: He’s very jealous. Reach down to pet Lilly or show her any attention, he wants to stop it. One night he got very aggressive to Lilly and Krissie picked her up and he nipped at her arms. Yesterday in the back yard on a long lead and a neighbor dog same size as Lilly, a male, and Remy just wanted to play with him. With Lilly he goes right in and mouths her entire body and bites at her legs.
Yesterday she got a spray bottle and she’d spray him and he’d stop. We talked about ways to keep him from doing this or stop him, including teaching him to like the crate, or teaching him place, or tethering him to her, etc. Her boys and her pug are going to her husband’s this week and I’m concerned that Remy is going to think he’s the top dog forever and when Lilly comes back, he’ll escalate.
Krissie does not know at this point if she is going to keep him because of how he acts to Lilly. Lilly is afraid of him. And a couple of times, she’s just picked Lilly up and put her in the crate. To me this is reinforcing his behavior and I told her that. No, he has to stop; it’s Lilly’s house.
She said she’s going to work with him this week and is aware that he may become emboldened with Lilly gone.
April 10, 2020 at 5:05 pm in reply to: Private: Remy, M/N Charleston, SC Adopted Amy Rauhauser #2467904/10/2020: Krissie has made an appointment for him Friday at the vet, and I told her to go ahead and make a neuter appointment for him as well.
Gail Hannington and her neighbor had posted him on 3 different FB pages in Conway/Georgetown, in Horry County, and Lost or Found Pets of those areas. No responses. We posted him on both of our FB pages and on Find Lost Airedales. No responses.
I alerted the Horry County Animal Shelter and they took my name and number and said if anyone comes in looking for him they’ll have them call. Spoke to Cecelia. Very nice.

April 7, 2020 at 10:49 pm in reply to: 2020-HOLD for HV Renie & Bruce Carroll, Maryville, TN never HV 2022 #2466704/07/2020: She and I are playing phone tag. She’s it.
04/07/2020: Spoke to Renie Carroll. She does hospitality marketing and her 30-y-o daughter works with her on social media. Daughter is currently living with them bc her roommate was not taking the C-19 crisis seriously and having people come to their apartment. Renie’s husband Bruce is a defense dept contractor and must go to work. I reminded her we still had her application from 2013 and she decided not to adopt because her husband went back to Afghanistan and their Welshie Keegan was diagnosed with diabetes and already had Cushing’s disease. He had to be put to sleep in 2017.
Her current Welshie Harper is a 2-y-o female she bought from a breeder in Knoxville Keith Bailey and is under contract to allow her to be bred at least 2x. She just gave birth about 3 weeks ago and is at the home of a friend of the breeders to care for her puppies. They’ll get her back in 3-4 weeks.
They have a home on the lake but can’t have a fence. They’ve thought about an e-fence but Renie understands the disadvantages of those and I explained to her that even with an e-fence, we require that someone be outside with the Airedale.
They use a pet sitter, Miss Janice, who was their children’s nanny and had worked for Renie’s parents before that. Miss Janice comes over a couple of times each week and spends 2-3 hours at a time and lets Harper outside and does a little light housekeeping.
Harper is friendly to all dogs when they meet them at the vet’s or in the neighborhood. And she’s fine with the breeder’s other dogs that are where she is staying.
I told her that Banjo is not a good fit for her family because he is jealous and growly. We will do a HV when we can or get video.
