Karen & Jack absolutely want Paulo. Karen said when she told Jack, she saw his eyes light up for the first time since their Smokey died!
I’ve called Ron to see how soon they can come get him. They’re free right now.

February 25, 2023 at 9:24 pm in reply to: Re-Activate: Lauren & Josh Cannon, Asheville, NC, ADT exp., 1-yo child #30269Hi, Lauren. I remembered your name and, after reading all my notes and your application again, I remember how we thought you would be a great Airedale adopter. I do see that your work schedules have changed and you now have a 1-year-old daughter! Congratulations! Has anything else changed since your application in September 2020? Address; vet (Dr. Paul Duncan); personal reference (Caite Gregory). Anything else?
I’m so sorry to hear that you had to say goodbye to Beverly. I know you loved her and worked with an excellent trainer, Kim Brophy, teaching Bev to compensate for her deafness.
We didn’t get as far as a home visit for you, so that will be our next step. I’ll find someone in your area and introduce you to them via email and then you can work out the details of the date and time with that person.
We do not have any Airedales currently that would work for your family, but we never know when we will get the next one. So let’s go ahead with the home visit and see where we are.
Thank you for contacting me and let me know if you have any questions before I get back to you.
Jackie

Subject: Re: Airedale RescueHi Jackie!
I hope you are doing so well!
It has been a few years since we last chatted directly (although I did help transport a beautiful Airedale last April, which I believe you coordinated!), so I am not sure if you remember me! My husband and I and our 1 year-old daughter live in Asheville, NC. I grew up with an Airedale and a Welsh Terrier, and it is my dream to have a dale again! We chatted on the phone and via email back in 2020 when we thought we were ready to bring a second dog into our home, but then my husband changed jobs and the timing was tough. We had a deaf bull terrier that we rescued who was our pride and joy, but she passed away, and we are now looking to find our next terrier family member. Do you have any airedales in your care that you feel would be good in a home with a young child? If so, we would absolutely love to learn more!
Thank you so very much! Looking forward to hopefully hearing back from you soon. 🙂
Have a great weekend!
Lauren

Miaka Palmieri miaka@att.net 404-680-0392Hello, friends and volunteers of Airedale Rescue Group. Thank you for helping to transport Sunshine on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from Northport, AL to Canton, GA. Sunshine is a senior Airedale who has hip dysplasia and oftentimes has trouble getting up from a sitting or lying position, or she may just experience weakness in her backend and sit down. She will most likely need help getting into your vehicle. Sunshine will be wearing a collar and leash and traveling with a bed, blankets, food & water stand with bowls, a couple of toys, a bag of her food & a few treats, a couple of bottles of water, and her meds.
SAFETY: Please be aware of Sunshine when opening car doors, transferring her from person to person, and always making sure a hand is on the leash. Remember that she may be confused and unsure of herself, leaving a home she’s known all of her life. Transport can be stressful to any Airedale without their human. Unless necessary, remain in the car until the transfer occurs; when opening car doors, ensure that the leash is secured. We recommend closing the car door on the end of the leash (with about 4-6 inches hanging outside the door) so that when you take her out of the vehicle you can have your hand on the leash before you even open her door. When allowing potty breaks, ensure that collar/leash(es) are tight for no escape; be aware of surroundings – even a plastic bag in the wind may spook a dog in unfamiliar settings. Do not let her off-leash at any time.
PLEASE USE YOUR CHILD LOCKS so that Sunshine cannot accidentally open a window or door! IT HAS HAPPENED!
Please call the next driver if you see that you are running behind or if you run into any problems. And, please let me know when you have handed Sunshine over to the next person. PHOTOS AT HAND-OFF ARE APPRECIATED!!!
I will be monitoring the transport and available for any questions (901-438-5782).
All times are approximate, allowing time for Sunshine to sniff around, go potty, and have a drink of water. (Humans, too.) Try to park away from heavy traffic areas, and for the first driver to arrive, please text the next driver to tell them exactly where you are in the parking lot.

February 9, 2023 at 8:34 pm in reply to: 23-03 Harry fka Moose, M-N, 1-yo, 50# Adopted Beth & Justin Platovsky #30203MEDICAL RECORDS SUMMARY FOR MOOSE (41 PAGES!)
12/19/22 Rx for Temaril-P; it’s a combination of antihistamine & corticosteroid for itching or cough
Rx for Trazodone 100 mg x 30; for mild sedation
Rx for Doxycycline
Described as Sick Examination for coughing; suspect URI (goose honk); recc rest x 7d, doxycycline, trazodone and temaril P09/12/22 Moose is an 8 month old airedale seen in your practice on multiple ocassions – he is a FREQUENT visitor. He wears an anti-scavenging muzzle when outside and is in crate when unsupervised.. Sunday early AM he vomited a small amount of bile before breakfast which I delayed until noon due to vomit. He had normal poops, appetite and activity all day. This morning (Monday) vomited small amounts of bile three times between 3:30 and 5 AM. At 5 am I gave him 30mg Cerenia which stopped the vomiting. Plan on feeding a small lunch. He is
eating ice cubes this am and very active. Is this bilious vomiting syndrone? He eats at 7AM and 6PM 1.5 cups Purina Pro plan puppy chicken and rice.
Vet: most likely it is bilious v+ syndrome. I recc feed him a bedtime meal (split
the last one in half), and ok to give famotidine 10mg in the pm x 14d. Can give cerenia daily x 3d if you have it as well. Recheck ini/worse.08/30/22 o, wants a fecal done, p has diarrhea per O still e/d/acting normal, thinking d+ is caused by P stress/anxiety bc its intermitent. usually loose
bm/d+ at night. tested fecal float in house and was NPS, O elects to see if dr will disp some d+ meds and monitor P
RX Metronidazole08/03/22 Doing well, been keeping crated and keeping activity to minimum since sx. per O does she need to ween P off meds? (gaba, traz-told O ok to stop giving unless needed for mild sedation)
removed all staples and sutures, site looks good per EB07/27/22 Rx for Cerenia
07/21/22 (1) X-rays revealed possible small piece of the ceramic bowl in the stomach. No obstructive pattern noted. (2) BW WNL.(3) Discussed and rec. exploratory surgery given it’s been at least 36 hours and the suspected object has not moved. A/o I am concerned about sharp edges and if this piece will cause any trauma to the stomach or intestinal lining. Discussed surgical complications -dehiscence and infection and the possibility of a negative explore. O understands and is ok with proceeding with the surgery. Suspicious for FB based on xrays- radiopacity suspected in stomach. TTO re options. O elected to explore. See
Smartflow for sx notes. Gastrotomy performed and ~1″ ceramic bowl piece removed from stomach.
4:10pm- pt QAR, still sedated post-op. No vomiting/ d+. Recc transfer to SAES for continued care

Tore up bed and ate part of foam stuffing; vomited overnight and at breakfast undigested breakfast
Vet recc abd rads- ok per O–> small, linear mineralopacity in stomach, fecal material in lg int and colon. TTO re keeping pt here for IVF for day and rechecking rads as we go. Ok per O. Also ok to check on basline BW.
LRS 50ml/h
cannot r/o other cause of gastroenteritis (infectious/inflammatory/ other)
mild anemia, elevated lipase
Recc obtain fecal smp for testing when able.
Repeat rads 3pm- mineralopacity still present but appears to be moving through and poss in colon. Is a small area cranial-mid-abdomen I recc we monitor (stuffing material?). Recc continue on with IVF at SAES overnight and recheck rads, cbc there (make sure no worsening of anemia). If no v+ and doing well, could consider offering small amount EN and see how he does. February 8, 2023 at 9:26 pm in reply to: 23-03 Harry fka Moose, M-N, 1-yo, 50# Adopted Beth & Justin Platovsky #30197Re phone conversation with Merry Garner:
When they got him from the breeder he was very timid. That changed in a week.
How old was he when you took him to obedience class? Puppy Obedience? He was less than 6 months, bc they had to wait for vaxes, about 5-1/2 months.
Followup class? Did he get a Canine Good Citizenship Award? He went to only one class then he had to have surgery for eating part of his ceramic food bowl. (He broke it and ate a piece). She kept going to the class to learn and would work with him at home and they both went to the final class and he got a certificate.
Did it include leash training? Some, and even that early, the trainer had recommended a prong collar.
Then She decided he needed more training and engaged Track the Dog, a former military/police dog trainer. They recommended a prong collar. He walks better with that. The only way she can walk him. Keeps her from falling over. For a while she used both the gentle leader and prong collar. But now uses just the prong collar.
How old was he when he ate the ceramic bowl? What were the circumstances? He was in his crate and playing with his bowl and it broke and he ingested a piece. He’d already been to the ICU for eating part of his bed including part of the zipper, but they didn’t have to do surgery.
They watch him carefully. He is crated if they don’t have their eyes on him. He has kong toys and heavy duty nylabone trainer recommended and other toys – stuffed moose that he plays with when she can watch him. Mostly kong toys in crate and also on back deck that’s enclosed and he can be outside and plays outside with the toys.
He’s very affectionate and will cuddle and be gentle, then he runs like crazy. He’s played with other dogs when she boards him. Took him to puppy daycare and he plays with the other dogs. Hasn’t been exposed to children. Has encountered children on walks, but doesn’t seem that interested. She holds him back from children.
A neighbor sometimes walks him for her and has a golden retriever and Moose walks well with the GR.
He’s crated more than not. He’s out for several hours during the day. Crated all night and when she’s not with him. She says “Crate” and he goes into the crate. Never any problem going into the crate.
If someone is running, he wants to go after them and will rear up on his hind legs. He weighs 50.5 pounds as of last month.
Breeder, Judy Beitzel, sis Oorang and his mother was Oorang but he was the runt of the litter, and the breeder said the father was smaller.
Ideal home, someplace where he can romp a lot and get a lot of exercise. He loves other dogs and would do great with another dog.
They applied to rescue years ago, we were so careful, so Merry is confident that we will find the right home.
