07-28-2020:
Good morning, Cheryl and Mark. I got your voice mail yesterday, Cheryl, and then got a call this morning from Mr. Capers (sp?) with Animal Control. I answered his questions and reiterated that Teddy now belongs to ARG and that he is not in GA; rather, he is in SC with our trainer. He asked if we are going to send Teddy to live with someone else and I told him that he was being evaluated and our trainer would determine if he was adoptable. He asked me to keep him informed of Teddy’s status. I told him, with all due respect, that I did not understand how that was his business because we own Teddy and he is not in GA. He said that with the court date coming up, he didn’t know if the judge would think that was enough and that the judge may want Teddy euthanized. I again told him that Teddy belongs to us and that the GA courts do not have jurisdiction over him, but as a courtesy, I would let him know of any change in Teddy’s status.I am going to involve ARG’s attorney in this. I understand, Cheryl, that you have your own attorney, Ms. Wilkins, and, certainly, she can advise you as to the jurisdiction issues.

July 28, 2020 at 4:35 pm in reply to: Teddy, 3 yo M/N, Foster w Cindy Green, 2 bite incidents #2521707-28-2020 From Cindy Green:
Hi Jackie,
I wanted one more opportunity this morning to have Teddy out in public before sending an update.
He has many great qualities. He is generally a calm natured and friendly dog. He has good manners with people and dogs. When I get him excited with a toy he does get mouthy and snappy . I do not find this unusual at all and I do like that he will settle pretty quickly if you calm down. This tendency to excite and be mouthy is a common issue with dogs and children and I put the responsibility to manage this on owners. This may be a primary factor in the incidents with children.
I took him to a ball park last week and we stood at a distance and watched as the young boys were dropped off for a baseball clinic. With social distancing this was fairly calm and quiet ( for young boys anyway). He did not react or even show any interest in moving forward. This morning we did the same thing for a girls soccer camp and again when I stood still he chose to go into a down and was completely neutral. I spoke to two of the coordinators about what I was doing and they invited me to come over to the practice field tomorrow morning such that he can see and hear the girls in action .
Will let you know how he responds in the exciting situation.I have found Teddy to be very vigilant and I suspect guarding of what he considers his property. I don’t necessarily find this undesirable as I do count on my dogs to alert me to strangers but they must recall once I have checked the situation.
My only clue to date that Teddy may escalate in his guarding behavior is I have found he is very snarly if one of my dogs approaches his crate. He will growl and show teeth. However we are making some quick progress on working through this issue so not a big concern to me specifically. But may be a clue to bigger issues with guarding.
I will guess this relationship about the crate occurred in the previous home . He is wonderful about sleeping in his crate and does seek the crate to rest so he does not have bad feelings about the crate in general.
I have put him in a 5×10 run and a small fenced area and allowed my dogs to approach. He is friendly and offers play behavior in these circumstances. There is no fence fighting behavior or guarding of these areas. Of course he currently does not view these as his personal domain. He is very friendly with my dogs with the loose leash interactions that I have allowed to date.No flags to date of anything I consider serious or dangerous. Lots of things can contribute to guarding behavior. Some of it is about a dogs mindset and what has been allowed . Some of Teddy’ issue may also be the excitement and unfamiliarity of children.
I find Teddy to be a really nice dog.

July 28, 2020 at 3:19 pm in reply to: Teddy, 3 yo M/N, Foster w Cindy Green, 2 bite incidents #25211Good afternoon, all. I’ve added Brook Parish (Karsonsmom30@gmail.com) to our group. She manages the RadioShack where Karen will pick up Teddy. He comes to work with her every day and she says he is wonderful, the smartest dog she’s ever seen, and a sweetheart. Karen, I’ve told her that you have a commitment until 10:00 and should be at RadioShack around 10:30 or so, but please call Brook if you’re running behind. And please let Lee know what time you can get away from Union to meet her in Columbia.
SAFETY
Regular safety – please ensure that you are aware of Teddy when opening car doors, transferring him from person to person, always making sure a hand is on the leash. Remember that he may be confused by the recent changes in his life, including this transport. Unless necessary, remain in the car with A/C until transport transfer occurs; when opening car doors, ensure that the leash is secured. We recommend closing the car door on the end of the leash (with about 4-6 inches hanging outside the door) so that when you take him out of the vehicle you can have your hand on the leash before you even open his door. When allowing potty breaks, ensure that collar/leash(s) are tight for no escape; be aware of surroundings – even a plastic bag in the wind may spook a dog in unfamiliar settings. Do not let him off-leash at any time 😊COVID safety – please use COVID-19 precautions. Please wear a mask when meeting your transport volunteer, and employ social distancing. One example may be for the arriving Driver to get Teddy out of their car and the accepting driver unlocks their car to allow Teddy into their car. After touching the leash from the other driver, use your hand sanitizer.
Heat Safety – It’s going to be very hot on Monday. Do not feel the need to walk him outside if you arrive early. Sitting in the car in the A/C will be fine for him. Please bring along a bowl and a bottle of water and offer water to Teddy at each handoff. We want to be sure that he stays hydrated in this hot weather, but don’t be overly concerned if he doesn’t drink at each handoff. He might also appreciate a small treat or two.
Teddy is a good boy! Transport is a good way to help ARG and meet other Airedale people so, despite current challenges, I hope everyone has a great experience with Teddy.

Hi, Susanne. We have a home for Grace. It is a young couple in Raleigh NC who have a 2-yo neutered male Airedale. The man is a fitness instructor, the woman has just started a new job (can’t remember what kind) but she works remotely so Grace will rarely be alone. This couple was actively involved in the Florida Airedale Rescue organization and has fostered many Airedales over the years before moving to Raleigh. They have been approved to adopt since early March and are ready to welcome Grace into their home.I’ve told them that you travel to Columbia frequently and they would like to meet you there next weekend to pick up Grace if that’s convenient for you.
Let’s talk when you have time today or tomorrow to work out the details.
Thank you for trusting us with Grace’s future.

Hey Jackie!Everyone at the vet office was talking about how sweet Millie (Bobbie) is! She makes friends everywhere she goes.
Everything went well with her check up. They wanted to do another round of antibiotics and did bloodwork (should have results Monday) so that she will be ready to begin her treatments in approximately 2 weeks. They said that other than the heart worms, she looks like a very healthy girl.
I did get her another month of heartgard and nexgard. But I wasn’t sure if she already had a heartworm preventative for this month, I know at one point you mentioned Cyn might give her a dose while in her care… I wanted to make sure before I gave her the heartgard.
They estimated the entire heartworm treamtment to be around $595. I’ll attach a photo of the estimate. $80 of which is the bloodwork that I went ahead with.
I will be sending more photos and keep you up to date on scheduling of treatments.
Thank you all again, she is the sweetest dog!

I’m so glad your trip was safe, albeit very long. It’s all a memory to Millie (I like that better!) now. She will take some time to settle in (see graphic attached above). It’s an over-simplification, but a good overview.
I’m so glad Abigail loved her and got to meet her. You’ll have to send us some photos of the two of them.
Let me know how the vet visit goes. I’m sure my vet, Dr. Breland (901-323-1177), would be happy to talk to your vet if there are any questions about her pending treatment. We also want frequent updates on her settling in to your home and routine.
I will send you an adoption contract later today. I’m behind in my work.
Thank you for opening your home and hearts to Millie!

wrote: Hey everyone,
We made it home safely! Bobbie did really well on the drive. I left her in the back and she stayed back there and rode without causing any trouble at all. We stopped a few times for potty breaks, she was quick to jump out of the car, but never tried to pull away. She walks pretty good on a leash, she stayed right beside me all the time.
When we arrived at home, it was just before Abigail’s bedtime. They were able to meet and Abigail might have already renamed her as Millie (her favorite character on the show Team Umizoomi). She was full of giggles and smiles!
Bobbie (Millie) is exhausted from the trip and already found a spot on the floor to rest. She’s not the only one that is tired, it ended up being an 11 hour round trip. Luckily, traffic was not bad and there were only short periods of rain.
We have a vet appointment at 3:30 tomorrow and will let you know the game plan for treatment.
Thank you all again!

Subject: Transport of Bobbie, Airedale, July 22, 2020Hello, friends of Airedale Rescue Group. Thank you all for helping us get this sweet, nearly 2-year-old female Airedale to her forever home. She is a sweetheart and has never met a stranger, 2-legged or 4-legged, and rides well, but she doesn’t like getting into cars. Bobbie will be traveling with a crate that is collapsible (if you don’t want to use it), a Kong toy, and treats. I have emailed her medical records to her new home. She has a rabies tag and ID tag and is microchipped but has NO microchip tag.
Please make sure I have all of your phone numbers correct below. I will send a group text once I know for sure so we’re all connected.

Regular safety – Bobbie has been known to try to back out of her leash. I believe her foster dad has purchased a harness for her for this trip because she just chewed up her 2nd Martingale collar today that we normally use for transports. Please be aware of Bobbie when opening car doors, transferring her from person to person, always making sure a hand is on the leash. Remember that she may be confused by the recent changes in her life, including this transport. One example may be for the arriving Driver to get Bobbie out of their car and the accepting driver unlocks their car to allow Bobbie into it. All times are approximate, allowing time for Bobbie to sniff around, go potty, and have a drink of water. (Humans, too.) Please call the next driver if you see that you are running behind or run into any problems. And, please let me know when you have handed Bobbie over to the next person. PHOTOS ARE APPRECIATED!!!

DO NOT USE GPS TO GET TO CYN’S. USE THESE DIRECTIONS
Coming from the west on 40, take the bypass Interstate 140 (aka Pellissippi Parkway) toward Maryville.
Go about 11 miles, then take exit 11B. This will put you on Alcoa Highway heading toward Knoxville.
Watch for a right exit to Governor John Sevier Highway aka Highway 168. (If you get to the Navy and Marine Corp Reserve Center on your left, you have gone too far and missed the turn.)
On Highway 168: Go 3.5 miles to the first traffic light. There’s a gas station there.
Turn RIGHT at the gas station onto Martin Mill Pike. Go 1 mile.
Turn RIGHT at Bonnie Cate school to stay on Martin Mill Pike. (You will be following signs to Library and to Stock Creek Baptist church. Go 1 mile.)
Turn LEFT at Stock Creek Baptist Church onto Stock Creek Road. Go almost 1 mile.
You will see a gravel driveway and an old barn on your right.
There is a reflective sign that says ARI — very hard to miss.
Please don’t park on the grass — if it has rained at all, you’ll get stuck
Cyn Mobley cell phone number is 865-405-3002Thursday, July 23, 2020
Leg 6: Jackie is still working on this. Bobbie’s new family lives in Asheboro, NC, which is 5 hours east of Knoxville.

July 24, 2020 at 2:54 pm in reply to: Lucy, fka Jana, 5 yo? Adopted by Camille & Joe Klotz, New Bern #2513607-23-2020: From Shawn:
Lol! No worries at all! Her appointment is not until the 13th as she is just coming out of heat.
She is doing great in the house , but does have a bit of separation anxiety. She is a very sweet nature’s gal and loves to be near people. She isn’t doing great with the Fox Terriers, but some of that is them. She really is a big goofy puppy.😊The photo of the skin issue is horrible. Open, deep sores 2 inches long on top of his spine.
The two hooligans have gone to Ruff Housing for a playdate, which is auspicious timing since we’re suffering a deluge of rain. None of them went far from the deck when I put them out, and Master Zeke will have to go out to relieve himself, again, at some point, but isn’t warmly inclined. We tried apple cider vinegar, and aloe , on the stuff healing on his back, but neither helped, so I am picking up some ointment AND a cone of shame from Cobb this morning. I hate having to put that thing on him, especially since he’ll be wearing it, again, in ten days, but he can bet back there, past the inflatable one, so we have no choice. And dressing it wouldn’t solve the problem, he’d get that off in no time.
Our housekeeper/homewatcher is here. She breeds Bull Mastiffs, and is quite knowledgeable. She pointed out that he still has his baby molars, pegging him at closer to a year, or less, age-wise. I’ll make sure Dr. Clark changes the records at Cobb to reflect a much more recent birthdate, although we’ll never know, for sure.
I’ve also got a bag of large breed puppy food coming. Kim also thinks he may still be growing, and, of course, we don’t know what he was fed prior, but it can’t hurt to give him a few weeks of nutrition that supports fast-growing young bones and joints.
These pictures are also in his OneDrive folder. As promised, I WILL get some better, high-resolution portraits for the ARG site, once we get those ugly spots on his back healed over. One step at a time…

We use the Humane Society of Union County’s Spay Neuter clinic for our personal Foxies and also Midwest Rescues. Gail is their trainer and it is really close by. Here is a link to check them out . I can set it up if you like or if you want to use Dr. Nicks it can only be on a Wednesday as it’s quite a hectic drive uptown.
Jana is doing great. I was so happy that her heart worm test came back negative. Dr. Nicks couldn’t find anything wrong with her leg and it seems to be getting better as well. She enjoys car rides a little better now and we are working on leash training. She still tries to back out of her color, but once you get her going she does quite well. She is a very happy girl that loves to play and do her zoomies. She acts much like a big goofy puppy. So fun!!
Thanks,
Shawn
