Marilyn –
I understand and not too worry about asking questions. It is good to have the information in case a plan is needed. If the situation changes, we are here to take good care of Diesel. I wish the sister all the best with him.
My regards,

Hi again Pat,So I just checked in with the family, and one sister is planning to take Diesel to her home.
I’m not sure she will actually go through with that plan, but for now, we will be in a holding pattern. One of those situations that “we’ll believe it when we see it.” :-/
I will keep you posted though. I am sorry to have troubled you this morning, but I am very grateful for your speedy reply.
North Carolina is a very beautiful state! My ancestral Rowell family is from the Goose Creek area in South Carolina, along the NC/SC border.
Small world! I will be in touch soon either way. Thanks again for rescuing these pups and allowing them lifetimes of love!
Yours, Marilyn

Yes, Diesel will likely have a rode trip although we have some approved adopters in the Marietta area.

I am based in Wilmington NC. Our core team of volunteers are in NC, SC, TN and MD! We have a lot of volunteers in the Marietta GA area that would be willing to assist us.

Subject: TeddyI got a call from Cheryl Cohen, Teddy’s former owner. She went to Court this morning for the “Citation for dog-at-large.” She had been told that she would not need a lawyer/representative.
The people who filed suit stood up and tried to turn it into a hearing and said they wanted Teddy brought back to GA and euthanized. She stood up and said she was told this is not a hearing. She doesn’t have Teddy and he is not vicious. Then the Court stopped the entire thing.
She does rattle on, so I don’t know what the upshot was, except the Court admonished Animal Control for not following proper procedure, whatever that was supposed to be.
I emphasized to her that Teddy belongs to ARG and GA cannot require us to return him to GA.
Just FYI.

Hi Jackie,
Will let you know how the vet visit goes next week.
I mention some of the quirky things I notice about this guy as I think about how best to help him be placed in a suitable home and what would constitute a suitable home for him.
Just guessing on the odd toy thing but possibly the Cohens corrected him off of grabbing any kind of toy Or object from the floor in an attempt to resolve some conflict in the home between the dogs. Thus I have kept an eye out for resource guarding . Or they “over-corrected” when teaching a “leave it” such that he makes no attempt to pick up a dropped or thrown object. He has clearly received some obedience training. At any rate I mention this as some people may like that he seems very obedient, others may think he is aloof. I often see posts in some of my groups where a dog is re-surrendered because adopters feel the dog does not like them or does not bond with them. Thus I am trying to get him to engage in something that a new owner can use to interact with him and develop a bond.
We have several dogs at Woofers that have same bark issue. It is similar to a singer that looses their voice after continual use. So he may have been a nuisance barker at some point (as have/are the dogs I mention from Woofers) . Don’t really think there is permanent damage as no visible exterior signs or injury. Again just a clue to his possible past issues. He does alert bark, just odd sounding and not always sure what has alarmed him.Teddy is a bit of an odd guy and don’t really feel I have his ticket as yet. Hope there is someone special out there for him.

Morning, Cindy. Thanks for this update. I am sorry to hear that he is “shut down” and you haven’t found what makes him happy. That is very sad as young as he is. It’s also sad that he doesn’t know how to “play” with toys or balls. I haven’t heard of dogs taught not to touch anything with their mouths. Not to touch skin with their mouths, yes, but anything?! Bizarre. From what we know about him, he played with the little Yorkies and went with his dad onto the golf course in the cart and would stay in the cart while dad golfed. I don’t know how old the Cohens are; he is a practicing physician and she’s at home except for volunteer work. It’s a shame about the vet’s office, for many reasons, but for you not to be able to be with him especially. You’re right to muzzle him.
Do you think his bark box was damaged by pulling against a leash? I know they used a prong collar with him but also an electronic collar. Is it worrisome enough to ask the vet to check it?
We will continue to evaluate applicants for an appropriate home for him. Thank you, Cindy.

I have vet appointment for Teddy this coming Tuesday. Unfortunately there have been Covid cases at the Vet office so appointments are slow. A vet tech comes to your car and takes the dog in so do not get to observe the process. I plan to have him muzzled to be on the safe side since I can not be the one to walk him in and handle him in a new place. I have no indication he would have a problem but don’t want any more incidents on his record. I regularly brush him and handle him without any issue.
I continue to do as much walking with Teddy as possible but weather has been very hot with daily thunder showers. Thus also not been a good time to take him to Woofers or even get much exposure to public situations.
At home I walk Teddy with my dogs and we practice stationing where the dogs all sit together and I offer treats in a random order as I say their names. No issues with this structured interaction, no resource guarding.
He is an oddly shut down dog in many ways. I have been trying to find his “happy” to give him an outlet. He will not touch a chew toy. I have tried to get him to play with a ball such that he can enjoy a fetch game. He will get excited, run out to the ball but then stop and will not touch it with his mouth. If I get him really excited by tossing things he will run out and throw himself down and roll on it to interact. Suspect some previous training attempt to teach him not to use his mouth. Hope to find something that he enjoys and can be used to build a relationship.
He is quite vigilant when outdoors. His “bark box” is damaged or worn out so has an odd dull bark and sometimes just a squeak.
When we are walking and he becomes concerned about something he starts tapping my leg repeatedly with his nose. Not always sure what he is concerned about but a definite communication from him and he gives little communication.
He might be suited to someone with a bit more of a country life where home life is quiet but his vigilance about strange noises and people my be of value. He seems happy to just watch the world from his cot bed. And he can smile.

wrote: Hi, Cindy. Just wanted to touch base on Teddy to see how he’s been for the past week. How did he do at the vet?
Have you incorporated him into your pack yet or taken him to daycare? We have not identified anyone that would provide the kind of structure, consistent training, and home situation (without kids) that he needs. But, we’re looking.
Let us know how he’s doing. And, I hope you and Bruce are doing well.

08-20-2020 Jill and Ted are going to Charlotte Saturday and spend the night so they can have Summer meet Jana with Shawn Sigler at the kennel where Shawn takes her dogs.
August 20, 2020 at 7:21 pm in reply to: Lucy, fka Jana, 5 yo? Adopted by Camille & Joe Klotz, New Bern #2547608-20-2020: Shawn took Jana to a kennel/training facility owned by a friend and Jana did great with meeting other dogs. She was on a long lead, just dragging it, but was good at meeting and was not reactive. She can be reactive when on leash.
Jill Heske is interested in her and I connected her to Shawn via text on Monday, the 17th. Jill is a bit slow to respond, but today she said she wanted to have a meet-and-greet. I talked to Shawn and we agree that Jill should visit Jana in Charlotte at the same kennel so that they can let Summer (Jill’s dale) and Jana interact in a safe, secure environment with all of them keeping watch, including the trainer.
I have emailed Jill to see if she can do that this coming Sunday so we can get Jana in a home sooner rather than later. We have other interest in her.

08-??-2020: JMC authorized Emily Shervin of The Grateful Dog in Atlanta to work with Marcela and Izzy and family.
Work 770-702-8427
Cell 770-710-8394
thegratefuldog.com.08-20-2020 Report from Emily from last night’s initial meeting/training session:
They met during torrential thunderstorms, so Izzy was panting and shaking, but warmed up to Emily right away.
The family has more ules than she thought they would have.
the Father has main control of Izzy, but Izzy still tests him. She’s not allowed on the furniture. He sometimes comes home and finds her on a bed and he grabs the collar and pulls her off and she’ll growl at him. Emily told them to leave her leash on and not to grab her by the collar, but use the leash and say “Off.”
She does continue to growl at the 11-year-old boy when he walks by or when he touches her. But she’s a talker. Have the boy teaching her find-it and to walk through a hula hoop. It’s an easy thing to do. Have dog go through it, gradually raise it and see if she will jump through it. Told him to Set up solo cups in the backyard to weave Izzy through. And she told him to look up some youtube videos of other easy tricks to teach Izzy. Use treats to lure her into these tricks. She advised that Izzy never be left alone with the child. And when other kids come over, baby gate her in kitchen.
Did some basic things and she walked Izzy in the rain using a gentle leader and an easy walk harness. They are going to use the gentle leader. Right now, they’re using just the Martingale.
Emily advised them to get some Puppy citronella spray to use when she sees other dogs. The brother’s dog and Izzy do not get along; it’s smaller and female. Husband said initially they just went for each other. Brother’s dog growls and walks away. Izzy growls and lunges. They watch each other’s dogs when the other is away for any period. But the dogs fight. They got in a bad fight and Izzy won. Husband says she has to get along with his brother’s dog. Emily told him she does not have to get along with that dog and they should make other arrangements.
She found out that the first time that Izzy bit the child, the child blew in her face. Marcela didn’t know that. The second time, they were just face to face. Emily cautioned against that.
There is Nothing outwardly aggressive from Izzy.
Emily is going back on Monday if the weather allows.
