09-12-2020: The Cepulo’s will not keep Zeke because he bit John Friday night, lunged at a clerk at Petsmart, and bit Bonnie this afternoon. Chris is going to retrieve him.

          09-11-2020 From Chris Patterson:
John and Bonnie departed about 20 minutes ago, from the parking lot at Ruff Housing, where he’s been going for playdates with our Boys.

It went very smoothly, and he’s going thoroughly equipped with toys, his crate, bed, treats, and bowls, all of which will carry our scents and will help him settle into his gorgeous new home.

Another mission of mercy, accomplished by ARG! Thank you for all you do.

          Another:

I’m pretty sure he recognized them, Jackie. He had four hours with them, two weeks ago, and I would expect their scent, sound, and shapes would have imprinted. I used the ramp we use to help him into their SUV, and he went willingly. Inside, he’d find the “dog towel” I’ve used the past couple of days to dry all their feet coming in from the yard, plus the scent of his food, treats, and toys. I stashed our car, the one he’s used to being transported in, out of sight, and his foster Mom came along, too, so the handoff would feel like just moving from one part of the “pack” to another.

I didn’t realize that John is actually a Greensboro native, and a UNCG alumnus, so they’re back here fairly regularly to see his parents. We offered to let Zeke come and party with Cooper and Quincey when they do visit – I would expect 8 weeks here have imprinted pretty firmly on him, and our Boys will miss him, too, when I pick them up, tonight.

Ironically, I think the family in Clemmons would have been fine with him, too; we’ve had no “resource guarding” issues since before he met them, but I had to disclose that it had been a problem. Once he was confident that he’d get the nutrition and playthings he needed, he was willing to surrender stuff that he shouldn’t have without any violence. But, the setting with John and Bonnie is perfect, and I have every confidence that he will enjoy a long and rewarding life with them, and they with him.

Bay, do I need to mail the receipts for his expenses, or are we OK just scanning and e-mailing?

Thanks, again, Ladies, for all you do for our favorite breed, and have done for Zeke.

We are so happy to hear that Zeke has gone with his new family. I’m sure there were tears involved. Did he seem to be excited to meet Bonnie & John again?

Yes, another mission of mercy by ARG through you, Tina, Quincey, & Cooper! Thank you all so much!

09-10-2020: ISW Sandra Bailey, who is a prosecutor with the GA Attorney General’s office prosecuting white-collar crimes and corruption in government. She has been working from home since Covid as has her husband, who is an architect. They have 8-y-o twin daughters who are going to school online.

I asked about their yard bc they answered that the yard was 4000 sq ft; she thinks her husband is including the house on that. They have a regular backyard with deck and they can play frisbee in the backyard. There IS a door that opens to that area — french doors off of the bedroom lead onto a deck that leads into the backyard.

I asked how they decided on an Airedale and it was because they had applied through a local rescue group for a dog that was an Airedale mix and she just fell in love with that face. Then they read up on them and like what they read about their personalities. She also likes that they don’t shed much and we talked about how their hair is like velcro and brings everything in. She said her miniature poodle was like that. She just doesn’t want a dog that sheds like a Labrador.

I asked about her daughters’ experience with big dogs. They have friends that have large dogs so the girls have met them and when they meet other dogs on walks, they’ll ask to pet them. They have a friend who is a vet who has a very well-behaved Labrador and the girls love that dog. The girls are about 55 lbs each and 4 ft tall.

The family goes for a walk every night after dinner and think it would be great to have a dog to accompany them. She sometimes works outside if the weather is nice because the girls like to play in the backyard and it would be nice to have a dog there with them.

They would use a crate if the dog needed it. They used one for their poodle Sebastian. He would go in just to rest. They would prefer that the dog be trustworthy to roam in the house.

We talked about training and she mentioned that there was a training facility near them called I-Wag. They take your dog for about 4 weeks and you come in once a week to go over what they’ve learned. I told her we didn’t like that kind of training and talked about how valuable it is to train your dog yourself under the guidance of a trainer. There is no substitute for the bonding that occurs when you are the one training your dog, so it learns to look to you for what to do, to learn its boundaries from you, to please you, to be praised by you. She said she knows there are other trainers that will come to your home to train and asked for recommendations.

She sounds responsible and open to learning about Airedales and their care. Set up a home visit.

09-10-2020. I offered BB to Diane & William. She wanted to go meet BB on 09-09-2020 but Lynlee couldn’t do it. So, they were going to try for today, the 10th. Haven’t heard from Diane since 7 last night when she said she was going to text Lynlee. Lynlee had not heard from her by 9:00 Central this morning.

09-14-2020: Diane put off the visit to meet BB on Wednesday, Sept. 9th through Sunday, Sept. 13th. I texted her on the 13th and told her that we were going ahead to the next adopter. She finally responded on the 14th that she had been very busy.

                Too little, too late.

09-09-2020: JMC connected Lynlee and Diane O’Cain so that they could possibly meet on 09-10-2020. It’s 11:40 a.m. Central and I haven’t heard anything from Diane since 7 last night that she was going to text Lynlee.

We may need to move to the next applicant.

09-08-2020: Lauren Schneider drove to Charlotte to pick up Mojo from Shawn Sigler on 09-07-2020. She met him in the house and sent several sweet photos of her and Mojo. She loaded him into her Yukon in the cargo area. Soon after she began driving, he jumped over the back and sat in the back seat. She was fine with that. He soon began pacing. She was on Hwy 74 going 55 and he stood up against the passenger door with his paw on the window control. The window was down all the way. She couldn’t get the window up because he was still standing on it. Lauren was trying to pull over and trying to grab his leash and he jumped out of the window and was immediately HBC and killed. She called Shawn and Shawn and Gail came to help her. Lauren was beside herself. Shawn & Gail told her to go on and they would take care of him. Horrible ending.

Shawn called me later and was inconsolable, still crying. She said that Lauren offered to bring a crate and she said he didn’t need it because he rides well in the car.

ARG has learned a hard lesson here. Our Airedales must be crated or secured with a seat belt and CHILD LOCKS SHOULD BE ENGAGED!

09-08-2020 These two women are very picky and want to try a dog out before committing. The only outside area they have is a pen. I am moving them to Never Adopted and will not pursue them for any of our dogs.

Emails from Malcolm Fowler that his son is ill, had Covid in March and still has not recovered. Retested and still has Covid so they’ll put off home visit until later. Also waffled on getting fence and not getting a dale until he had a fence.

Moved to Never Adopted. I don’t think he’ll come back to us.

09-07-2020: Spoke to Emily Shervin re Izzy’s training on Friday, the 4th. They took Izzy to Cantrell Park which also has a Dog Park. At first they were on a narrow path with no escape room and she was reactive to the dogs she met. They then went to the dog park area and sat on a bench outside the dog park. She did amazingly well. They let her go up to the fence and a lot of little dogs came over to greet her and she even turned to let them sniff her butt. Marcela and Daniel have walked her but said they never encounter other dogs. Emily wants them to walk her in the park so they know they will encounter other dogs so they can practice their control and distraction. Emily has told them she will do another session after they have had 10 days or so to expose her to other dogs. I agreed to pay for another session.
