09-25-2020 Tara texted that Atlas has been brought up to date on vax and his HW text was negative. I’ve emailed her and asked her – again – for vet records.

09-19-2020 Mary McEneaney did the home visit:
Understandable, Jackie. Such a sad time for you, I know.

I had a really great visit with the Baileys. The family was delightful. They had definitely done their research – even knew about Jack the WWI dale! They’d not known about Airedales until they saw an ADT mix they were interested in. The ADT mix was adopted before they could apply but they liked her so much they started researching ‘dales. They even had a bunch of questions prepared for me so they could get more info on the breed. Was very impressive.

The girls at first were a bit unsure with Maddie and her enthusiastic friendliness but they quickly got past that. Their only experience with a dog was Sandy’s elderly miniature poodle so size and enthusiasm were not what they were used to. It wasn’t long before they were petting her and throwing the frisbee for her, calling her over, etc. The parents were great with the kids. Explaining things when needed; very patient. Very nice people

The house with a good layout with a straight shot through the open public space – LR, DR, Kit – from front door to back. The backyard is nice – U-shaped around the house. All grass except for the gravelly drive, which they don’t use since it’s inside the fence. Maddie got some good running in out there – she definitely approved. The house was clean and tidy with wood floors. They are definitely not neat freaks – they had gotten Maddie some nice treats at the local dog bakery in their neighborhood, one of which was a red crab, the red being dog friendly ‘icing.’ That sucker was big so there were pieces of red crab all over the floor and red ‘icing’ – didn’t phase them at all.

The dog will have pretty muc free rein of the house but they think the bed will go in the dining area in front of the south facing windows. A nice sunny spot.

We discussed the stress of early days in a new home and they understood. We also talked about working with a trainer vs. sending the dog off. I gave them the name of a friend who is a trainer – very positive focused – who could come to the house and work with them all as a family and individually. They definitely agreed that the training was important for them as well as the dog.

They told me that if they get a female, they will call her Ruth, in honor of RBG. Awesome! After Sandy told me that, I told her about sending you the photo of their yard sign, saying they’d passed the first test. They told me they’d wondered if I was going to be some crazy trumper, but then they figured I live in town so would probably be okay. We had a good laugh over that.

Their vet, Dearborn, is one of the top recommended vets on the neighborhood social media pages – my vet and Dearborn usually get the most positive comments with a 3rd getting almost as many. They’ve already checked out the Oakhurst Dog Yard, which is just a few blocks from their home and a dog yard I’ve heard pretty good things about. I also invited them to come to our dog yard.

Super nice family, respectful to each other, me and Maddie, and they’ve really done their homework. The dog who gets to join their family will be a very lucky dog indeed!

        Mary

oh, they did say they are hoping for a younger dog – 1-2 years old – they could walk a lot with and the girls could grow with.

            Hi Jackie,

We are both mainly at home right now. I work part time by appointment and zoom so I am around alot. Kim Austin is working from home
right now and that will not change much for the foreseeable future. We are getting ready for a 4-5 week kitchen remodel but other than that nothing
has changed in our home environment.
We would prefer a female somewhere between 3-5 or so years old. We are looking for a mellow temperament dog and that is important. So having said that
we might consider a bit older than 5. Beckett turned 3 last April and we think he is well suited for a friend. He loves other dogs and has been socialized here
locally at the Canine Social Club, a place for day care and play.

Keep us in mind. The kitchen is to start on 9/28 so we are looking at the finish the first week of November. Any time after that we think would be good.

Thanks and if you have any other questions just let us know.

            Best.

            Kim

Hi, Kim. BB is slated to go to her new home on the 26th. I don’t think it will change. You do not need to fill out a new app unless your home situation has changed. You and Kim Austin are still the only occupants? How long would your Beckett and new Airedale friend be alone each day? Any other changes in your life?

            Thanks, Kim.

09-22-2020: Michele is now living temporarily with a family in Cookeville and asked if I knew of anyone who could help with her boy. She needs dog-sitting. I told her about Rover.com and also told her I’d try to find someone who might be able to help.

Called her again today to see if everything is ok.

Lauren & Josh Cannon were really interested in him and we rushed their interview because they sounded like such great applicants. Chris was to do their home visit and meet-n-greet with Zeke at the same time.

Lauren notified us 09-21-2020 that they are going to hold off for now.

If someone comes along and becomes Zeke’s forever family, we will be so thrilled for him! And if he does still happen to be with his foster dad, we would love to meet him in a couple months.

He will be mine on Saturday morning! Yay! I’m probably going to take him straight to Walnut Grove rather than bring him here bc Hawkeye is so bad with other dogs.

75 lb good dog, gets along with their small Boston terrier mix. Good with their 5-yo boys and 11 & 12 yo girls. Not good with cats. No prob. He’s just a handful and high-strung and they’ve been keeping him outside a lot. Neighbor has a GSD and they get along, no problem. No aggression with other dogs; he gets excited and hops around. He wants to play. Never any illness or injury. Walks on leash. They have vet records and will send him w/ collar, leash, toys.

$300. (Bay, I’ll pay and you can reimburse me.)

I’ve gotten in contact with this individual and let her know that I am very interested in providing her Airedale a forever home. It sounds like she wants to find a home for her “ASAP”, & I am not able to prepare our home for a second dog for a few weeks. I am unsure if that is too long of a wait for her. But, I want to be sure that I have everything she needs, the moment she comes to our home, (bed, invisible fence collar, food bowls, extra food, etc…) From my interaction with her, it sounds like she would like to find a home sooner.

The Airedale is AKC registered, but the owner states that the paperwork is lost. I don’t know if that’s a tedious process to retrieve that document. My husband is questioning the price she is asking for her, without a registry.

I don’t think the Dale is fully potty trained either. I’m really not experienced in potty training a 5 year old dog. But, hey I’ll have more time on my hands.

Please let me know if you hear back from this owner. I really am very interested in opening up our home to her.

Yes, the interior of your home — everywhere your Airedale will be allowed. Actually, I can view the front of your home on Zillow, but I would like to see the backyard as well.

But, there is an ad in Hoobly from yesterday of a 5-year-old female, unspayed, Airedale for sale for $500. I have emailed the person who posted to try to get this Airedale for ARG but told them we cannot pay $500.

I haven’t heard back. Perhaps you might be able to get this female ‘dale as a private adopter and she might respond to you because you’re close by. We can’t get every one of them. Sigh.

If you wish to pursue adoption through ARG, and because we have no one close to do a home visit, will you send photos of your home? We’d like to see the front, the back, and inside everywhere your Airedale would be allowed.

                                Thank you for your patience.

Hi, Sue. We have a new applicant who is interested in Banjo. We’ve had many who have expressed interest over the last year or so, but this one impresses me. They will have their home visit this weekend, but I wanted to tell you a little about them. The couple are in their mid-50s, a 12-yo Wire terrier, 2 cats, and a rescue horse farm. They have 7 acres sectioned off with horse board backed with hog fencing into individual pastures/yards. They are home all the time (I’m not sure if retired or if they work from home; do you know, Julie?) and Banjo would be alone only about 2 hours at a time. The husband has stage IV colon cancer and the wife anticipates she will become the sole guardian of Banjo. They just lost their Irish Wolfhound-Shepherd mix at 14 and he was her husband’s soulmate. He needs a big boy to love.

I have not spoken with this applicant but Julie, copied above, has and Pat has arranged a home visit.

Let me know what you think about the possibility of Banjo living with these folks – oh, they’re in Canton, GA.

                                  Thanks, Sue.
