9/19/13 Called and left voice mail for Rita
9/19/2013 Emailed Mitzi and Tom & Margaret Massie about Rose.
Home visit scheduled for Sat., Sept. 21, 2013.
09/19/2013 Rose does not seem to be completely house-broken. Tessa didn’t like leaving her in the crate so she would sometimes leave her simply closed into the “dog room.” Rose peed in that room and has gone recently in the living room. She prefers to be outside. She is getting along better with the smaller dog, Murphy, but prefers Flynn, the Doberman. Tessa said Rose is a very loving dog and is very excited when Tessa gets home.
Tessa says she will be fine with smaller dogs if the owner just lets her know who’s boss and that fighting won’t be tolerated. Rose loves to play tug-o-war and wrestle.
She is going to be difficult to place with not being reliably house-broken. We must get her out by Oct. 1
Laura Kjeldsen will do home visit. Yea!
After emailing Molly, emailing Julie Slenker, private-messaging Julie, then calling Julie, no response.??
September 10, 2013 at 8:01 pm in reply to: Private: Alyssa Dimatteo & KIrstin Morrison – Atlanta GA 30324 #139249-10-13I called Alyssa & Kirstin on last Wed., I believe. I got Alyssa’s voice mail and left my name and number.
09-04-13 My email to John Austin:
Hello, John. I have tried to contact you a couple of times and left messages and I know you tried to call me once. I just wanted to let you know that I am available to talk when you’re ready.
You had originally expressed an interest in Sherlock, the 10-year-old male who was being relinquished by his owner, but he has gone to his new family. He generated a lot of interest and one of our former adopters who had been waiting for the “right” Airedale to come along, snagged him up. We do have a couple of older males just coming into rescue who will need to be fostered to learn house manners and we have an older female in foster care now who needs a little more fostering and inactivity because she’s being treated for heartworms.
We currently have more approved applicants than we have Airedales – a good problem to have – but we don’t t necessarily follow a first-come, first-served process. Some applicants may be waiting for a youngster or only want a female or want a smaller dog of less than 70 lbs, etc.
Once we have completed a telephone interview with an applicant, we then arrange for one of our volunteers to do a home visit, we check vet and personal references, and then decide if the applicant is approved to adopt. It may take a while to find just the right Airedale to fit with the applicant’s family and lifestyle.
I look forward to talking to you and to helping you find the right Airedale for you and your family.
Thank you for considering a rescued Airedale.
(BTW: I will be away from my volunteer duties from Friday, Sept. 6 through Monday, Sept. 9.)
9/10/13 Renie returned my call on 09-09-13 and I spoke to her today. Her husband is a contractor w/ the US Gov and just left for Afghanistan yesterday. They didn’t think he’d be going back this soon. He just got home in August. Also, they discussed last night the possibility of selling their home. And, they’ve had to be back and forth at the vet for Keegan, their Welsh who has Cushing’s and diabetes. So, she wants to wait a while before proceeding, but is interested in helping transport if we need it.
Otherwise, we talked about the lack of a fence and the dangers of an e-fence plus the requirements for leash walking. Her Welsh stays right around the house. They are right next to the woods and can’t even see the neighbors’ houses, but Keegan doesn’t roam.
I’m going to put her in Transport for the time being, but she might come back to adopt later.
My email to her:
Hi, Renie: It was nice talking to you a while ago. It sounds like you have a lot of things going on in your life right now, what with your husband back in Afghanistan, Keegan’s diabetes not under control, and the possibility that you may sell your home. When you are ready to move forward with your application to adopt an Airedale, we will be ready for you. In the meantime, I have noted on your application that you are willing to help transport. We really appreciate that. And we appreciate your considering a rescued Airedale. I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
Hope little Keegan does well on his insulin.
Jackie
Mitzi has asked about Rose and I sent her a photo.
Tessa said Rose isn’t deaf; she does respond to sounds, but doesn’t really respond to any names she’s tried with her. Tessa claps to get her attention. Rose mostly ignores her. She has been working on the sit command and Rose will sit just long enough to get a treat; she won’t stay. She is not house trained! Tessa doesn’t always use the crate for her; just leaves her in the “dog room” alone. Rose doesn’t like the room and prefers to be outside. When Tessa comes home, she lets all the dogs out together and she stays out there with them and lets them play for half an hour or so, then she brings Murphy in and lets Rose and Flynn stay out a little longer. Rose and Flynn get along well, but she still tries to dominate Murphy. Tessa took her to the dog park and there was only one dog there and Rose was fine with him, but Tessa didn’t let her off leash. Rose loves car rides and is always friendly and receptive to people.
Tessa thinks she shouldn’t live with dogs smaller than she is. I’ve got a video of her and Flynn playing. She has lots of energy.
