          Hello Jackie,

Thank you for letting us know about an available Airedale, however we adopted a 6 yr old rescue Wheaton Terrier he (Oso) is just a delight and we adore him.

Again thank you for keeping us in your files but we are all set. We hope you find a wonderful home for your Airedale.

          I also left a voicemail.

03/14/18: The timing is not good. They are planning to be gone the entire month of May. Take the rescue to a kennel in Jackson, SC and have had Trevor there. The folks are very savvy about dogs, especially about Airedales. They’ve had all 7 of their rescues go through the process. Depend on them to look for any signs of incompatibility to give them a chance to be acquainted during play times at kennel and if that looks good then they are kenneled next door to one another. It’s usually a week or 2. Trevor has his own territoriality that they try to get past and it’s been successful. They had a big Airedale from TN one of their rescues, Shelby Co., TN. She went there.

I told Bob that wherever Maggie goes, she is going to be anxious and timid initially, because she’s an anxious dog until she feels comfortable in new surroundings.

Then, if she does acclimate to their home, they’re planning on being gone the entire month of May and she & Trevor would be kenneled the entire time.

I asked if he’d like to talk to Cindy Green about Maggie and said she could talk behavior and expectations with him. I suggested he might even want to visit Maggie with Trevor. He’s going to call Cindy.

03/14/18: jmc spoke to Brian Pankopp. They Got him in Dec 2008 (born Sept). Always been an awesome dog and high energy and Brian was single. They’d run on weekends and go to dog parks. Always a great dog. Adjusted to his wife and then they rescued an Airedale Howard. Howard had been abandoned by a breeder because only one testicle descended; they got him in 2011 he was maybe 4 or so, a year older than Ralph. Ralph was good with Howard. Taught Howard how to be a dog. Howard had always been in a kennel. Taught him everything. They got along great. Ralph has never had an issue with any dogs. Never any interaction with cats. Had friends with dogs come over and Ralph was with them.

They had a little boy 1-1/2 years ago. They thought Howard might have an issue. Howard took to the baby immediately, very protective. Ralph was like what’s he doing in the house. Never jealous or aggressive. As Carter started getting older, he’d bang around with toys. Ralph would get anxious at the noise and movement. All came to a head, this time last year, Carter was playing and squealing and screaming. Brian and his wife were watching and could see that Ralph was tired of it. He Got anxious and went over to Carter and bumped him with his head. It was intentional. No bites, no scratches, no lunging, no growling. They did a little training on their on, but they looked at it as Ralph has always been high energy and head of the house. Really happy go lucky boy. The one in charge. Everything goes his way. Worked with him a bit, but took it as a situation where he could go live with Brian’s parents. He adjusted well to living with the parents, loved going swimming and chasing squirrels. Adjusted well but they didn’t. He’s so active and so high energy. Always off leash with his parents unless it was walks in the neighborhood. He’d wander around and he’d come back immediately. Shouldn’t be with kids under 6 years old. Loves little kids as long as they’re taller than him.

No health issues. No hip issues. Still runs and acts like a puppy. Never aggressive to other animals. Other dogs come into the yard and he might say this is my house, but then Plays with them.

Got Howard from a groomer in Noonan, GA. She Groomed for a family who bred Airedales, poodles, GSDs. Divorced and sold their dogs, so they got Howard. His parents’ only issue is that they can’t keep up with him. He can go all day long. But he’ll Cuddle in the evening.

03/14/18: From Laura Kjeldsen to Christina, FB post by Brian Pankopp re Ralph:
“He never actually snapped at Carter. He started getting really anxious and bumped him to knock him over. No teeth, no marks, but it was kinda aggressive. We were afraid it may become more aggressive so we decided to move him to my parents. I have no doubt that he would be perfect for older kids, around 6 and up, but maybe not for smaller.”

Christina, find out what she knows and her source. They didn’t mention it on the relinquishment form. They said he is good with children and when I questioned them about what age, they said children who are school age, not toddlers.

If he just snapped at the child, to me that doesn’t mean that he bit the child. If he bit the child, I would like to know circumstances.

I told her we have a Ralph from Seneca. She said that is him.

This is all good information, Pat, and will help us to find the right home for him. Thank you so much. Ken was going to send me copies of his medical records, so I’ll look forward to receiving those.

When Ralph was with our son he had a fenced yard to run in. The dogs would spend about an hour outside every morning and during the day stayed in the house; he is not crate trained. Our daughter in law is a school teacher so she was home relatively early. Weekends were more active with long walks and runs. I know they frequented the dog park.

His routine has been more sedentary here, shorter neighborhood walks. We do not have a fenced in yard and live on a lake. When off leash he wants to run or swim. He gets along fine with our dog, other dogs, and people. He’s very social. He has never lived with a cat.

By active I guess we mean that he’d really like to have a yard to run in. We don’t feel that we have the time to exercise him like he needs. We travel a fair amount and don’t want to be boarding him frequently. He’s not destructive, doesn’t like to chew, but does like to play.

Morning, Pat. I just spoke to Ken about Ralph. Ralph sounds like a great dog and I think we will be able to find a wonderful home for him. I do have a few other questions I hope you and Ken can answer.

When Ralph was living with your son, what was his routine? I know he had another Airedale to play with. Was he alone during the day while your son and daughter-in-law worked? Was he accustomed to a crate? Since he’s been living with you and Ken since July, what has his routine been? I know you have an elderly dachshund; did he get along with the dachshund?

He is said to be okay with cats. Has he lived with a cat?

Under worst qualities, you put “Active.” Can you expound on that?

All of this will help us as we evaluate our approved applicants for their suitability for Ralph. Anything you tell us will be helpful.

Thank you so much for entrusting ARG to find Ralph’s new home.
