03/16/18 JMC Convo with Caroline Pendleton:
Re: Children – Amelia, 6mos will be a year Aug 24.
She had 2 Airedales when her twins were babies and her last Airedale died last summer at 14 and – the kids were 2-3, she had her leg amputated and was the best dog in the universe. Very patient. They have a mutt adopted from a shelter. With a baby, they lived in Denver she trained with Barkbusters, home dog training, did a lot pack mentality techniques and she incorporated a lot of that training, she’s the pack leader and never left them with the baby alone. Introduced to babies and was very much in charge. A very gentle and gradual introduction. Both of the Airedales were amazing with the kids. She also did the same thing with chickens. Dogs were amazing with the chickens. Giant, gentle friends. Part of the flock and they do what she tells them. It took about 3 weeks. He would just lie down in the middle of the flock and the chickens would just sit on him. She added kittens to the flock. Same thing. The Airedales and kittens are best friends.

Typical day we get up in the morning- chaotic, getting kids ready for school. The older kids take the dog out into the fenced area and go to the chicken coop. Everybody goes to school. She and the baby get the dog and go for a longer walk, weather permitting, then just around the house. Usually spend a good bit of the morning outside, working on the chicken coop, colleting eggs, dogs with them. Pick up the kids around 2 and half of the time, she takes the dogs in the car. Mutt not crazy about the car. Home and kids go outside and then do homework. Outside with the animals, always with the dogs. They go feed a neighbor’s donkeys. Bash was good friends with the donkeys. After dinner they all go out with the dogs again. Husband gets home btw 6 and 7. Then he is the last walker of the day, he takes the dogs outside before bed. Weekend running around with the kids with soccer games. Anything going outside the dogs are with them.

He gets along with everyone and everything. He’s a funny little guy. Very protective of yard and people. He’ll run and chase something away from the yard and never takes a step across the yard. They will completely fence when they get another dog. It covers about 1 acre, not the entire yard. They train a lot with their dogs to not leave them. Emma was 7 weeks when they got her. Perfect dog. Bash was a bit older, no one wanted him from the litter. In New Mexico. He was also absolutely perfect. Never chased anything, never set foot out of the property.
Lolly and Pop cats- one spayed one neutered. 1 year old
      Approximately 30 chickens

I was very impressed with Caroline and her attitude toward rearing children and Airedales. She reminds me of Cassie Maglin in her confidence, strong but loving discipline. I would almost approve her without a home visit, but will find someone to do it.

03/17/18: They have turned down Maggie because of bad timing. They’re traveling to Europe and will be gone the entire month of May, then he’s having cataract surgery. Just bad timing.

03/17/18 The Athertons turned down Maggie. Timing is not right. They’re traveling to Europe the entire month of May, then he’s having cataract surgery when they return. Too much in flux right now.

03/17/18: She sent jmc PM on FB that she’s interested in adopting. I asked her to fill out an application because we do not have one on file for her. But as a former adopter, she will be moved to Approved.

03/16/18: Mia and Curly are HW negative; negative for all parasites. I authorized Sheri to start them on Iverheart and to give them a capstar and start them on Advantix Plus.

Marguerite Kiel wants Mia. She will pick her up at The Animal Hospital Saturday, March 17, 2018.

                        Subject: Airedale Rescue

Hi, again, Maureen. It was great speaking to you just now and talking about Airedales and all the Airedale people we know in common. As I said at the beginning, if Joey Fineran placed 3 Airedales with you, you are automatically approved. Add to that, that you got an Airedale from Linda Baake Jarvis and one from Corally Burmeister, and you are golden!

The fact that you now have your 6th Airedale also tells me that you know what you’re doing and will provide a wonderful home for a rescued ‘dale. We will keep in mind that you have Spencer, who’ll be 8 months old tomorrow, and he would love to have another Airedale to play bitey-face and butt-tuck-run with.

I will be back in touch when we have an Airedale we think will be perfect for you, Rich, and Spencer. Thank you for your time today, Maureen, and your love of Airedales. I look forward to working with you.

03/15/18: Curly nips at their clothes to get their attention. What age children? 15 and 10. Lori has rental property. Her renter called her recently and said Your dogs are here and my 2 year old loves them. It scared Lori, because they haven’t been around toddlers. And she cautioned the renter to not let them be rough. School age would be best. Curly with other dogs – she will run them off. If any dogs come near their house, they just run it off. The trainer worked with them with walking on leash, walking with a treat in her hand. They did ok. She’s sure they’d take to it.
