I called HA and they will seek a release from Chad Hood her prev owner and transfer her to us. They will notify us via email at info@ARG when that has been completed.

Daphne got Rosie out of the kennel yesterday from being spayed, but Daphne is having some health issues and needs to take her back for boarding this weekend. She’s a very sweet dog but she is a wild child.

09/18/18: Cathy Biersack with ATRVA forwarded an application from Teresa Robinson to ARG. JMC responded to Cathy and Teresa that Teresa is approved for adoption; we are just waiting on the HV volunteer’s report. Sue Taylor had already notified Teresa that she was approved.

09/16/18: Per Lori Day, he is heart worm negative and the vet estimates he’s between 1 and 1.5 years. Very sweet, very hyper.
He was so matted he had to be clipped closely. Told her to get him chipped, everything checked out.

09/17/18: Oh, great, Daphne. Good report! I just responded to your text.
Yes, check her teeth but don’t clean unless they say it’s necessary.

As for the skin, did the vet think it could be some kind of mange or did they rule that out?

I like the name choices, but let’s not consider Lily or Lucy – too many of those through ARG in the last couple of years. Please choose from your list and I’ll go with it!

            Thank you, Daphne!

She did have worms—- being treated
Swab done on her skin showed a lot of bacteria—started on antibiotics.

Infection in eyes—-salve prescribed and given.

Previously in Aug & early Sept., Tempest is getting better on Novox for pain. Joyce says he prances around the yard like he’s a youngster.

09/11/18 Tempest got his first HW treatment shot today. He’ll go back in early Nov. for 2nd and 3rd. JMC paid $254 by CC.

Hi, Joyce. I absolutely understand forgetting to email. I was going to email you and send your receipts to Barbara Yager the day I got this and got distracted and forgot about it. Remembered it today when I was going back looking for emails I’m supposed to be following up on. Hey, it gets worse, friend!

I’m so glad that you love that boy; otherwise, you probably would’ve kicked him out of the house by now. I can’t believe he pees in the house. Your description of him pulling the cat off your chest was so funny. I read it to my husband when I got it and we both laughed about it. Lucky cat! And he can count to 4? And you know that because…? I’m glad you got the Novox and he is responding well to it and able to get up off the floor.

It’s good news that your vet doesn’t think the tumor is a mast cell. That’s encouraging. I would not be anxious to have him anesthetized for the procedure at his age and with HW. As for the HW, I am surprised that Dr. Cooler wants to use the full HW protocol for him, again, based on his age. The fact that he’s symptomatic is discouraging. Will you ask for a quote from him so we can know what we’re facing and see if they will offer a rescue discount? I can certainly send our 501(c)3 info.

How wonderful that he’s so fond of you. It just shows how resilient these wonderful dogs are. After spending his entire life with his owner and then only being with you for a month, he knows he is loved and is home. Thank you so much, Joyce, for taking such good care of him. We’d love another photo!

                              I’ll be in touch soon.

                              Good afternoon!
For at least three weeks I’ve been reminding myself to sit down and email you. If I wait till I get home it’s not gonna happen, so before I leave work today, here we go…….

Tempest is a delight, a great dog and I love him. He is very smart, knows several commands, I am convinced he can count to at least 4 and smiles a lot. A lot. He has really bad table manners and his housetraining is a sometimes thing. Thankfully for me, his arthritic hips won’t let him hike his leg, so he pees near furniture instead of on furniture. I will learn his routine in the near future and I expect those accidents to happen less frequently. He is eating well and adjusting to being in a kennel (big enough for him to stand up and turn around in) during the day. The first week he was with me he had a spell of not being able to get up. The first vet appointment I could get for him several days before this happened was still over a week away. I called my vet and said “look, either you can work us in to your schedule today or I can take him to another vet, but he will not go another night without some Novox.” I was using a sheet as a sling to get him up and take him outside and he was panting and had his ears back and just looked uncomfortable. So, they finally saw it my way and we got Novox started about a week before we had his appointment for evaluation of his heartworm situation. It made a huge difference in his quality of life with the first dose and he hasn’t slowed down since.

My guy here, Dr. Jim Cooler in Walterboro, SC, is kind of old school, but progressive enough to try new things if they seem reasonable. Tempests first HW treatment will be September 11. I will drop him off and he will spend the day there and I’ll pick him up about 4-4:30. I will call you when we are checking out so you can give them the credit card information. That treatment will be followed about a month later with 2 injections of immiticide, 24 hours apart. He is already on doxycycline and Heartguard. He coughs occasionally, which is concerning, and is probably evidence of the heartworms taking up residence in the right side of his heart. I expect they have done permanent damage to his heart and the vessels surrounding it, but we’ll deal with that when it becomes an issue.

Dr. Cooler is convinced that tumor on his back leg is not a mast cell cancer. He has never seen one stay the same size like that one has for reportedly two years, and it seems to be an encapsulated thing that you can actually get your fingers all the way around, not adhered to the leg like most mast cell tumors are. A mast cell tumor would have lots of blood supply and also wouldn’t feel as smooth as this thing does. So, he suggests watching it carefully for growth and leaving it alone for now.

He is growing pretty fond of me, I think. He loves to be loved on and frequently lays his big ole head in my lap for attention. I think he’s gotten jealous of the cats in my lap. This past weekend I had a cat on my chest and she was purring and talking to me and I was petting her. Tempest noticed this happening and came over to the recliner and watched for a minute. He frequently sniffs their butt while they’re in my lap, so I wasn’t concerned about his presence. He reached over, took a mouthful of hair in his mouth and literally pulled the cat off my chest. It was obvious he didn’t intend to hurt the cat, he just wanted it off my chest. The cat, of course was very offended, but Tempest seemed quite please with himself. He doesn’t offer to chase the cats, he accepts the teeny terrorists with no problem, but he’s not sure what he thinks about my bird. I see him thinking.

Attached are the two bills we’ve incurred so far. In hindsight, it occurs to me that if I’d called you and you had given them the 501c3 information there could have been a discount applied. I apologize, I didn’t think about that at the time.

Thanks to all of you, for entrusting me with another truly awesome Airedale, again.

Zeus had a cough so Daphne took him to the vet. The vet – a holistic vet that doesn’t work for the clinic but comes in a couple of days a week – would not see Zeus because Daphne suspected he might have kennel cough having come from the kennel in Headland the week before, and she didn’t want to risk him infecting her Mastiff puppy!!!! Prescribed Doxycycline and that was it; no exam!

                                JMC paid $40.77 via CC.
