Vet reference: Perfect according to JoJo at dr. Walter’s office. Kept Daisy and Clyde up to date on vaxes and heartworm testing. Gave Heartgard, had their teeth cleaned; anything her dogs needed, she got done. when I asked if she could think of any reason why Delilah should not have an Airedale, she said no. When I told JoJo that Delilah was 81 she was surprised and said she never would have guessed that because she is active. She hopes she looks like that when she’s 81.
January 5, 2024 at 8:10 pm in reply to: 2023 Delilah Schrader, Athens AL, Good fence, ADT Exp, 1 dog, prefer >8 yrs, #31538I had a good convo with Delilah yesterday and she impressed me as a caring, proactive, experienced dog lover. She had an Airedale, Daisy, for 13 years and she died about 5 years ago. A couple of months before she died, Delilah found 2 pups on the side of the road and ended up keeping one with the other going to her DIL. This pup is apparently a mix of basset hound and pit bull, long and low, with a square muzzle. He is the best dog. Daisy was a very intelligent Airedale who always knew what Delilah was thinking and was loyal always. She did not have a typical Airedale prey drive. The only critter she ever went after was squirrels; she’d chase them up the tree. Never went after cats, raccoons, deer, anything else. Loved everyone.
Clyde is 5 in Oct. He was dumped with his brother the 1st w/o December 5 years ag. She kept one and DIL kept one. Feet like a bassett and turn out. Long but he’s got a face like a pit and is muscular.
How long since Airedale 5 years. She was 13 years old. Had a shar-pei and she was 13.
She doesn’t use tap water; she uses Berkey filter system (?) Takes out lead, mercury. She just went through every test available just had a knee replacement 3 moths ago. Her husband died in March and Clyde didn’t get all the attention he needed. Gene was a lot of work during the last 4 years. She’s very active.
Clyde is very healthy. She has a great vet. Doesn’t like nails done. He screams. Her Airedale knew everything that was expected of her. Quite bull-headed. Daisy lived about 2 weeks after she got Clyde.
Wants one that’s at least 5 years old. She’s terrified of dying and leaving a dog. Clyde will go to her daughter and she’s made arrangements for him. If she gets one that is the same age of Clyde. Clyde loves other dogs. He was meant to go to a family with children. He wants to play with the neighborhood kids. She feeds American Journey. Clyde gets probiotics from the vet. He takes Heartgard but has never had a flea or tick nor did Daisy ever have a flea or tick. No itching, scratching, etc. Never uses those drugs.
Clyde loves the female lab next door.Kate 256-777-0081 (she’s the one with the lab 2 labs) Bailey is his girlfriend. Birdie.

Clyde goes to daycareI’ll check her references and vet’s office and then try to find someone for a home visit.

November 14, 2023 at 3:46 pm in reply to: 2023 Misker, AL Buchannon TN, ADT exp, App from Russell Rescue #31270I spoke with Al Misker (pronounced My sker), a very nice gentleman who loves Airedales. I explained that we already have commitments for all the pups that came out of Russell Rescue but told him if we get another Airedale that would fit his lifestyle, we would certainly consider him. He understood that we would need a new home visit because the last one was in 2011. I’ve emailed this to him and copied Russell Rescue.

Offered her one of the 5 Columbia TN pups. Too late. She’s good for now and can’t take on another one, but is willing to help us when needed.
October 25, 2023 at 6:10 pm in reply to: 23-27 Daisy, 2-yo F/S, Pikesville, TN, No small kids, OK w dogs, cats #31080I talked to Sophia Clark about Daisy and there’s not much to add. They got her at 8 weeks old in November 2021, so she’s just over 2 years old. She gets along great with their male Bernadoodle who is larger than her and Beta to her Alpha; she gets along well with the female Westie pup. She gets along with cats, other dogs, and people except for Sophia’s mother’s dog, a Great Pyr-Pit mix who attacked her with no provocation, and small children. She would be fine with older children, say 13+. She would do best in a calm environment, maybe with a couple or a household with older children. She needs a fenced yard because she loves to run and play. She loves the dog park. She walks ok on leash but must use a harness because she slips out of her collars and runs, but she always comes back, esp. if there’s food involved. She’s very food-motivated. She’s afraid of thunder and loud noises like yelling and will hide in the bathtub during storms.
Sophia will have their vet in Oklahoma send her records; she has not seen the vet yet in TN (the one listed on release). It sounds like she will make someone a lifelong companion. Just no little kids or territorial dogs.
And from Release:
Cuddly, super sweet, playful, loves branches, loves fetch, loves people, dog parks, greets people at door, loves to share snacks, road trips, loves the beach, and water. Likes to sleep in bed with you.Photos attached. Vet records to come.

September 14, 2023 at 3:27 pm in reply to: Private: Donna Garner, Lewisville, NC Do Not Adopt #3099609-13-23 Donna sent a note to National Airedale Rescue and Lynn O’Shaughnessy forwarded it to us saying she is in the hospital and needs someone to keep Jessie for 8 weeks.
I spoke to Donna and she is having back fusion surgery on Tuesday, Sept. 19 and will be hospitalized and in rehab for up to 8 weeks. Jessie is on a lot of meds and is “special needs,” according to Donna. She will not potty on leash. She will only potty in one place in the backyard when Donna takes her out and begs her. She hasn’t eaten since Donna went in the hospital 1 week ago. She is on supplements and medications from the vet for a digestive issue because she has had bloody &/or mucous-filled diarrhea.
I told Donna how difficult it is to find someone to take on an Airedale in a situation like hers. And with a special needs ‘dale, it will be even more difficult. I asked about friends, neighbors, relatives, etc., and there is no one who can help. Right now, a couple of friends from her church are going over and letting Jessie out a couple of times during the day. She’s not aware of any boarding facilities but will ask her vet. I asked her to have her vet send Jessie’s records to our info@ARG address. Look for boarding facilities near her (Winston-Salem area). Get back to Donna once we get medical records.
September 3, 2023 at 5:21 pm in reply to: 23-05 Boone, Male-Neutered, 6-7 yrs, w/Cindy Green-training #30993Per Cindy Green:
08/28/23: Hi Pat,
Just a few quick notes on Boone:
Great dog ! Will provide details and my observations after a few more days of him setting in and testing.
I have a vet appointment Wednesday morning to discuss heartworm positive status.
He also has a number of hot spots on his back and rib cage . I am treating topically but if not under control by Wednesday morning I may need oral antibiotic from vet.Love, love this Dane-Dale (he is huge as is and he is underweight)!
09/01/23: Boone has been with us a week now. I have all good things to say about this big boy.
He attaches very quickly and readily seeks affection. If you excite him with a lot of rapid touch and voice he gets excited and very mouthy.
He does have a very hard mouth . He just does not know any better . The use of his mouth is with no intent other than to acknowledge you .
I slow down , remove my hands and let him calm and then resume calm touch . He learns that the touch he seeks goes away when he uses his mouth.
He is heavy with his mouth when taking food from your hand . I work with getting him back away from me and waiting so he is more thoughtful of the exchange process. Then I offer the food tucked tightly in the palm of my hand . I only release the treat when he starts using his tongue to try and pull it out .
In general he is just not very aware of the use of his mouth and with his huge head and teeth it is easy for him to do damage .
I also note in reviewing his vet records for last 6 months this big guy was below 50 lbs at one point . So would also say food stress could well contribute to grabbing. He is ~ 68 lbs now and could easily carry another 7-8 lbs and still be very trim.He is completely compliant with good leash handling. He could easily pull someone down if he is allowed to get out on front and set the pace especially if the handler is not aware of the surroundings.
He walked in and out of the vet office this week with a waiting room full of dogs including one lunging in his direction. He did not so much as turn his head.
He was very popular at the vet office this week. After giving him about 10 mins to relax the staff came in one by one to greet him and he was very friendly. He had no issue with being handle and examined by the vet.We did our usual slow dog introductions at the house with only distance view and scent for the first day. Then with my dogs in the outdoor runs , I walked Boone within site of the dogs. Boone did not even look over. I walked him along the pen and again no interest. Next day I put Boone in large fenced area without leash and let my dogs go out to the pen and greet. All tail wags from him and very sweet with the little one. He actually seems to have no real interest in interacting with the dogs. He wags , sniffs and walks off. If I am within sight he never takes his eyes off of me.
He does love to play with toys. He already has a favorite Go Nut toy. I can reach down and grab the toy. He does not necessarily want to give it up but no growling or claiming.
Boone is an absolutely fabulous dog and he deserves a very special person. It is his turn in life. I think he would be happiest as an only dog or with an older calm dog. He seems to have no interest in dog play.
Will send a second email with details of the heartworm treatment process which we did begin this week with the doxycycline.
Pat,
I have included below the outline of heartworm treatment as sent to me in an email from my vet. It takes several months and is expensive. I have asked for a current quote . I went through this when I adopted Grace via Arg in 2014 . I feel Boone is a tough dog and with proper care during these next few months he will benefit and be able to have years of good health. I have started step 1 this past Wednesday and I have covered this cost . Step one of “slow kill” will extend through end of September. Followed by a one month rest period . He is scheduled for step 2 (first injection for hard kill) on Oct 31 with final two injections back to back end of November.
This entire period requires vigilance with regards to not over-heating and only on- leash exercise. I am more than happy to keep him during this period which will not finish until December. However please be on the lookout for that special person. If that person comes along let’s not skip to the next dog I can work with them and their vet to continue this process (absolutely must be on schedule to be effective).
As mush as I love this dog the sooner we get him to his forever person the better for him . He just wants to be with his person.See below for copy of email from my vet:
“Here’s the heartworm information I promised! There are a few treatment options. The first is outlined below:
1. We would start prednisone (anti-inflammatory steroids) and doxycycline (antibiotics) today, or sometime soon. The steroids help with any inflammation caused in the lungs by the presence of the worms. The doxycycline treats Wolbachia, a parasite that is actually present on the heartworm itself. Your pet would be on these medications for 30 days, then have 30 days of a “rest” period.
2. 60 days from the start of the prednisone and doxycycline, we would see your pet back in the clinic for the first of three injections. Your pet would spend the day with us, and we would give a steroid injection as well as a benadryl injection, followed by the Immiticide injection. This injection works to kill off mature heartworms. Your pet would go home with you at the end of the day with the appropriate pain medications and possible sedatives to keep calm at home.
3. 30 days after the first injection, your pet would come back to the hospital for an overnight stay. On the first day, your pet would receive the same injection described in step 2. On the second day, your pet would receive the third and final Immiticide injection. Your pet would go home with you the second day.
4. 6 months from the last two injections, your pet would be re-tested for heartworms to ensure that all worms are cleared. In some instances, we do have to complete more than one series of treatments to take care of all of the worms.
Your pet would need to be on a heartworm prevention for the entire duration of the treatment. It looks like you all picked up Heartgard, which is safe for heartworm positive dogs.
The second treatment option, which is less desirable, is called the “slow kill” method. This is completed by administering heartworm prevention monthly and giving other medications as the symptoms permit. This can take up to 5-8 years to see complete removal of all heartworms, and there is the risk that your pet would experience more side effects related to the heartworms with this method (though there are side effects or complications of both methods).
Please review these options and let me know if you have any questions. I often find that it is easier to go over everything in writing, but I am happy to discuss via phone with you.
We will start preparing treatment estimates for you in the case that you do choose to treat Boone.
Thanks,
Dr. Bruening”Sent from my iPad
Cindy G09/03/23:
Boone enjoys being outside as it is what he knows. But most importantly he enjoys playing tug and fetch. He is quite athletic. I would be concerned if the person would rely on public spaces to exercise Boone. We Don’t want a repeat of whatever happened with previous adopters. Also would want the person to understand he does not seem interested in interacting with other dogs. He wags and walks off from mine. He does not offer a play bow or seek them out. I suspect he may not be comfortable with them jumping on him. It is not unusual for an older male to be disinterested in play. He may or may not warm up more when he gets more comfortable with my dogs but don’t think he is suited to a dog park or public space with dogs off-leash.July 25, 2023 at 1:13 pm in reply to: Tish Moran – Adopted O’Conner Pup, Franklin, Nashville, TN #30904Hello all,
I have thought of you often. Hope everyone is well. Still here in Tennessee and Bran, Seamus and i are doing well. We had to work out our own routine with my husband gone but all is well.
First, please know that if you need any help just reach out…i will do anything i can.
Also wanted to plant a seed. My son and daughter in law lost their 7 year old airedale boy named Finn (way too soon) to cancer.
They do have 3 small children but they are very used to airedales. Mine and theirs. Hearts are broken and worry they will continue in this sadness. if you come across any child friendly pups that could be an answer to a prayer.
My best wishes and thanks to everyone.

Dave and Ann have no children. Both work from home though it appears when trying to schedule the home visit that she also does some traveling for work.
Being that they work from home the ‘dale would just be alone for a few hours/week. They have an inside cat and a 4 y/o male ADT/mix that they adopted from ATRVA thru Cathy Biersack. They have had 3 Airedales in the past…2 of the 3 having been rescues and 1 from a breeder.
They own their home, having lived in New Bern for about 3 years having moved from Leesburg, VA. They have 5 acres, an invisible fence. Their home is in a large neighborhood consisting of 5 and 10 acre parcels. Their 5 acres is wooded, no fence, there are no sidewalks.
Dave told me they are “not actively” looking but want to be ready if the right dog comes along. They prefer males. Want no health issues. He wouldn’t settle on an age or age range that they would accept.
Vacations the dog would go to a kennel or a sitter would come in. They have boarded at Lynnaire in the past.
Vet: Relatively new clients. No red flags on their record.Home visit is scheduled for July 5, 2023 per Keith and Ann Geren (Kelly’s folks). The Geren’s have had 4 Airedales in the past, having rescued 2 from Linda Jarvis at Lynnaire Kennels.
Home visit was completed by Keith and Ann Geren (parents of Kelly Imbody).
They found Dave and Anne to be “delightful people”. They were out working in the yard when my folks
arrived. They have a large 5 acre property, wooded and no fence. They have a 4 y/o ADT-mix named
Boomer and he was very friendly.
They got Boomer from Cathy Biersack as a rescue.
Dave works on refinishing furniture as a hobby and the garage was his workshop.
Both Anne and Dave interacted well with Boomer and Boomer was well-behaved.
They have boarded in the past with Lynnaire Kennels and my folks have rescued 2 ADTs from Linda.
This was the 1 st time my folks had done anything for ARG (I had planned to do the HV, but broke my leg).
My folks said that they would have no qualms about leaving their ‘dale with these folks and feel they
should be approved.- This reply was modified 1 year, 5 months ago by Jackie Cash.
