        Hello my Airedale Rescue friends!

Please find attached Duke’s final bill for his neutering, chipping, and (in the end) teeth extractions. My vet gave us the rescue/stray discount. The total we paid was $583 – but, we will get getting $27 of that refunded because we did not need the Elizabethan collar they gave us.

Wade and I are happy to share this expense with ARG – we know there have been a number of sick dogs this Summer/Fall. We will consider whatever portion we cover our donation to ARG. If you can help us share this cost, that would be a huge help since we are only about two months past Duke’s final heart worm treatments! My address is 9505 Bonanza St. Henrico, VA 23228.

Wrote to confirm total before writing check BAY

        Thank you!

        Joslyn

              Hi

I realized on Thursday night that something had occurred to Raluca, a former ARG adopter. As I looked at her FB page, I read that she had been killed by her former boyfriend on Tuesday. It was a murder suicide. The person also injured Raluca’s brother who was visiting from Romania. As of Thursday, the brother was still in the hospital. The horrifying details are included in the news story that I’ve attached.

Raluca adopted a dog named Herman from us in 20XX????. Herman was from TN and he killed a goat, supposedly (MK cannot believe this!). Cyn took him into immediate care. He fostered with Bay. Herman was adopted by Raluca who lived in Charlotte at the time. She renamed him to Mr Darcey. She realized that he did not have a Mr Darcey personality and he became Mr Bingley. Over the years, I know that BL and I have had a few short correspondences with her on FB or quick notes – just checking in, how’s Mr B, etc.

When I saw the news, I posted on Raluca’s FB page that I was with ARG and wanted to make sure that Mr B was ok. A women named MK reached out to me that she had Mr B. She explained that she was Raluca’s unofficial god mother and Mr B was with her at the time because Raluca and her brother were going on a vacation and MK was watching Mr B for her. MK said that Mr B and her Schnauzer are best friends and that he was safe. MK requested ARG information because she was writing the obituary and they wanted ARG to be an organization that people could contribute to. She also asked that I call her on Friday.

I spoke to MK on Friday afternoon as she was driving from the funeral home. Her ‘husband’ (?) named Al is the executor to the will and Raluca had always included plans for Mr B in the event of her death. Al & MK would take care of Mr B. MK said that it is not unusual for Mr B to be with them for 2 mos of the year with Raluca’s travels or her visits to them in Wilmington (they live in Wilmington). He is very comfortable with them and their dog. HOWEVER, MK said that she and Al travel a tremendous amount of time for work and personal and they don’t think it is fair to Mr B and that he should be in a family. She said that he is ag 7 or 8, she believes and he has bad hips and he is on gluecosomine and another med (vet prescribed) for pain as well as he receives laser treatments which have been very effective for him. He should not be in a home with small children, she said. She had never herad of his past about killing a goat and she said he is incapable of that – he would not harm anyone she thought. She made mention of financial help for his continued medications and laser treatments. She wanted to know how we screened applicants for dogs and I went through our process. She wanted him to stay close – in Wilmington and they would continue to provide care for him if his adoptive family went on travels.

I assured her that we would find him a proper family. I don’t know how to deal with all of her stipulations but I don’t want to bother her with that right now – she certainly has a lot of other issues to handle immediately for Raluca. She said if we don’t get started on this for 2 mos, that is fine. Honestly, I think when all of this settles down, she may want to keep him for themselves. I told her we would be in touch in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I asked her to write a nice bio of Mr B of what he likes and dislikes so we could be thinking of a family. If we had someone in the Wilmington area, that would be great situation.

Just wanted to let you all know what was going on. I think I wrote to a few of you who knew her personally on Thursday night. I could not believe it. I had heard about it on the local news but did not make the association to Raluca.

Another thing that MK wanted to talk to me about was the obituary and she asked that ARG write a piece for the obit that would honor ARG with our details and Bay wrote 3 very nice options to be used. I sent those on to MK as she was preparing the obituary for early this week.

Lin has asked that we send her a couple of the ID tags. She goes around to garage sales and thrift stores and finds dog collars so she does not need the collar, just the tag.
