Wow! Never a dull moment. I don’t know the Coles well enough to sense if this is a mostly emotional reaction.
But hey, it’s a foster home if nothing else. And I know CP handed over her precious Buddy in person.
I don’t think it will hurt our rep at Blue Ridge. They know we are all about rescue and what can happen.
Christina, just saw Blue Ridge reacted as I was sure they would.
I say Coles pay full price for adoption.

Subject: Ollie with Bill & Jane
From: mcprange@aol.com
Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2012 11:32:12 -0400
hi jane called 5 minutes after picking up Ollie and she really liked him. She said does he have a home. I said no but he has foster. She said well if no one wants him let us know.
They had 1030 at Asheville Hospital (they worked an appt in for us- it was not a real appointment, very very nice).
So I aksed Carol Woodson (Aggie Abby) to meet at Asheville Vet and take her to Blue Ridge
Turns out you cannot drop off at that vet – someone has to be with the dog at all times
I called Carol and said can you go right at 1030 to meet Bill & Jane and be with Ollie during appt b ecause you know this vet (she goes there too).
So i am waiting and waiting and worrying that we’ll miss the noon close time at Blue Ridge Kennels
BIll just called
Jane was crying in car
She wants Ollie
Ollie was in car with Carol
I said well go get him and take him home and I’ll call Blue Ridge and cancel.
So i left message and i don’t know if we will have to pay because we cancel at last minute. I don’t want to have a bad rep with them as we have used theeir client.

Nicole had called me last night to ask how well I knew him. Dog is leaving blood spots anywhere. Zachary has collar and leash and towel with him. Nicole will give him a sheet for his car. Nicole’s husband will be coming off base to be sure she is ok with strange man. Don’t blame her at all.
Zachary will call her just before he arrives so husband can come off base. Zachary will be there about noon.
estimate 2 years old and between 50 and 95 not good info from vet based on mary’s assessment I’d say 50

I’ve attached some photos of Thomas from when he was at Beaufort Dog and also getting to know Jake at our house. These aren’t very good — I have to get him settled and still and will take some better ones.
Thomas is not aggressive, but he does seem very unsure of people. He does not initially welcome being touched, and will cower and duck his head when
we pet him. He kept his tail tucked until he saw Jake. Being with another
dog seems to give him confidence. When we got him back to our house, I had Dave drop me and Thomas off at a grassy common area in our neighborhood, and then Dave went to our house and got Jake and walked Jake to meet us. Thomas immediately started wagging his tail at the sight of another dog. He is very comfortable with other dogs and wants to play. (When we were picking him up at Beaufort Dog and were at the counter with him, a customer walked in with a Dachshund unleashed and on the ground, and Thomas didn’t do anything but wag his tail.) He is much more comfortable around us in Jake’s presence. He continually wants to play with Jake, but Jake isn’t so sure about Thomas. We’ve only left the two loose together for a short time.
Thomas tries to avoid being caught, so we’ve either kept him on an extender leash or in a crate when we ran some errands. He is afraid to go in a hard-sided kennel like a Vari-kennel. I went over to Petco to get a wire kennel (I keep my large wire crate at Holly’s house) and ran into our dog trainer. She trains in Beaufort also, and is familiar with many Airedale owners in the area. I mentioned Thomas to her and his condition and reactions, and she thinks he was probably owned by someone in the military who dumped him when they moved or were deployed 🙁 Thomas does not seem to know many commands — does not respond to sit, down, come etc, and he does not know how to walk on a leash (we got an easy walk harness for him which has helped). He does not seem to know how to play
with toys. He does respond to No and Stop.
He is really thin, but he isn’t eager to eat — at least not hard dog food or hard dog treats. He did eventually eat about a cup of dog food this evening, but I had to crate him with his food and leave him with the food for 2 hours. I’ll try some canned food tomorrow morning.
Thomas is a barker — and howls pretty good too 🙂 He does not like to be left alone — he wants to see us and/or Jake at all
times, or he barks. We’ll see how tonight goes & I’ll give you an update
tomorrow 🙂

I did pay the vet bill myself since I used a different vet. Hopefully you didn’t send the monies to Chilhowee vet clinic. I still use them but since I’m traveling with my job so much lately and didn’t know how Maddie would react to a vet visit, it was more convenient to ask my friend Beth to make a house call in her mobile vet capacity. I have faxed the bills to Barbara Yeager about two weeks ago and have had no word. Which is why I am concerned the money was sent to Chilhowee. I’ll work it out if it was, just need to know.
Maddie continues to improve. I’ve noticed a waistline developing and much more energy. She is SO sweet and wiggly. She LOVES to be brushed but I haven’t tried nail trimming yet. Since she is hypo thyroid she doesn’t have much coat but I hope for improvement there also as the medication works it’s magic. She is in love with one of my Flat-coat boys and he in turn with her. I think he has caused her to get a little more exercise by his silly antics.
I have discovered that Maddie is a little thunder phobic. She wants inside when the weather is iffy and is not fond of going outdoors when it’s raining. With encouragement she will go out to take care of business but wants back inside quickly. She is great in her crate (she stresses a little during stormy weather but settles easily enough) and is totally housebroken. She seems oblivious to my cats. I don’t know about the “acting out” with roommates past because she seems to very congenial with my critter family. Perhaps she just didn’t feel well because of the thyroid issue. She is going to make someone a VERY nice companion. She just needs some consistency in her life, she’s ready to love again.
You have sent me yet again another terrific dog!

Hi Katherine
Thanks for reaching out to Airedale Rescue about the Airedale in need. I am the intake volunteer for Airedale Rescue Group and would be happy to help this couple and their Airedale.
Is the couple willing to surrender the dog to Rescue? Please let someone know that yes, ARG is here to help. The next steps are just the logistics. Feel free to give me a call or email me directly and we can figure out the next best step.
Marti – thanks for leading Katherine, Michelle toward ARG.

Of course. Is the dog in Asheville? I’m copying the officers of Airedale Rescue and will wait for them to tell me how to proceed. Do you know anything about age, condition, sex etc?
If Michele wants to talk to someone immediately she can call me but all I can do is give her assurances that we will get something done asap. And please forewarn her I am fragile,
I’m sure I’ll here from Christina, one of the Barbaras or Jackie this morning and will get the proper channels set up asap.

Subject: Help with an Airedale
Dear Marti,
When you have a moment, could you point me in the right direction of whom I should contact regarding an Airedale?
Michele Blitz (she and her husband, Bob, adopted Noelle which is how you might know them… they were at the last Leadership Circle event you attended) reached out to me about a dog that was rescued by this man… bad story… he kept the dog for two years…and then ‘dumped’ the dog on his parents… they’ve now had the dog for two years but are elderly and cannot take care of the dog. Apparently, from what I understand, they cannot get the dog to ‘come’ to them. I don’t know much else so who knows what’s going on… but I thought I’d connect Michele with someone at Airedale Rescue.
Please let me know who I should contact.
Many thanks!
All my best,

Ms. Barbara,
As much as I would love to be able to do this I am not at a place where I could. I travel to frequently to give that baby the love and attention it deserves. I really appreciate you thinking of me and hopefully one of these daya either myself or my parents will be able to foster and or adopt (our family airedale turns 11 this year).
Thank you so much for all you do
Mary

Subject: Airedale in Daleville AL
Hi Mary
Just checking on your status of wanting to add a dog to your family. We have a stray dog in Daleville Al
who needs to be picked up, vetted and spay if necessary. You would be fostering this dale until you determine
if she is the right dog for you, at which point we would place her in another home.
Is this the right time for you? Thanks for your consideration.

God save me from Good Christians.
He killed a kitten they brought home last month. And I think they have a new puppy.
But what is the point in arguing it?

Cyn, I see you posted to our FB page, and both Mark and Jill were quick to comment.
Of course, the first thing I also thought were runners. We have other adopters who did that without ever hesitating. But maybe they would clash with…………fill in the blank.
