By submitting this form, I certify that the information I have provided is true and accurate. I am physically, emotionally, and financially able to care for an Airedale. I understand that Airedales require both physical and mental stimulation to thrive and I will provide both. I understand that Airedales that come into rescue may not have been trained or socialized properly and may need extra time, patience, and care to adjust to a new environment. This may include the need to attend pet obedience classes to help build a better bond with the new dog in the home. I understand that proper food and veterinarian care can be costly, and I am able to meet these needs. I agree that Airedale Rescue Group may check my veterinarian, groomer and personal references, as well as, my landlord, if applicable. Home visits will be conducted prior to and following an adoption to ensure the safe-keeping of the Airedale. ARG reserves the right to decline adoptions. ARG reserves the right to reclaim any dog who, in our judgment, appears neglected, abused, unkempt, or unsafe. ARG reserves the right to reclaim any dog for non-payment of the adoption fee at any time. I hereby agree, and consent

10-30-2020: This good ol’ boy loves to talk. He seems like a good guy. Lives alone, 68 years old, hasn’t had a dog in 11 years because he was traveling as a truck driver for years. Some of that time, depending on the length of his trip, he’d take his Airedale with him. His first ‘dale was when he was 8 years old. All of his dales lived long lives. His last was a female who had a litter of pups and shortly afterwards got ill. He had to take her to an ER vet and she was anemic. They had to transfuse her and keep her from Saturday night till Monday afternoon and it was quite expensive.

He’s in good health, had only spent one night in a hospital in his life until last year (when he was 17 he got food poisoning from oysters). Last year he had a hernia and a little heart issue, but it’s not anything that the dr is concerned about. He gets up every day at 5 goes to work, but comes home around 1 or 2. Sometimes goes in later and works regular day. If he’s gone all day, his girlfriend who lives very close by and owns a liquor store right behind his house can come over to take care of his dog. He does the same for her if she’s too busy at work and he’ll go over and get her dog and walk him. But his Airedale does not need to get along with her dogs because they do NOT live together.

He talked about one of his Airedales being so good that people would be amazed because she would stay in his truck when he went in anywhere and she wouldn’t move, wouldn’t try to get away, wouldn’t bark at people. I told him our contract requires that his Airedale never ride in the bed of a pickup truck. He said he kept her on a chain where she couldn’t move to the sides. I told him his ‘dale would have to ride in the cab of the truck or in a crate if in the bed of a truck. He agreed to that.

We talked about how ‘dales can’t be trusted to be off-leash and he related a couple of stories that illustrated that. He would not let his ‘dale run.

His fence – as I understood it – is not complete. He put up fencing between his house and his shed and wants to cover it so that it is shaded but it is not complete. Frankly, he talks fast and jumps from one subject to another… IDK I told him he could show the HV volunteer what he intended to do. His Airedale will absolutely live in the house. He has a 3-br, 2-1/2 bath house, but keeps part of it closed off because he doesn’t use it. Otherwise, the Airedale will be allowed everywhere in the house that he is. It will not sleep in bed with him.

Called his personal reference, Rick Shillinglaw, who said Joe is just a really good guy who “loved his Airedales and would take good care of one. He’s got a nice little place over there, it’s probably paid for, he’s got no financial problems, just an all-round good guy.”

        Neighborhood street frontage.
Lived in, but clean. Exterior is becoming tidy…he is roofing a porch, plans to build/extend fence so there is lumber etc. currently in yard.
Home is small…a double wide type dwelling. Laminate floor with a few rugs. Furniture is clean. Home looks lived in and comfortable for single man.
Dog will have run of house and yard once fenced. Covered porch will allow ‘dale to be out of the weather if outside. Previous Airedales were allowed on furniture.
Lady friend was there. She is involved with local rescue (all breed). Very friendly and accepting of my Amos that I brought along. Applicant showed me pictures of all of his past ‘dales…he loves them all! He enjoyed my Amos but stated he didn’t want that big of a dog. He currently drives a dump truck locally. He plans to take the ‘dale with him to work. Past ‘dales travelled with him and went to work with him.
        No other pets.
My Amos started to rip off a branch on his bush…I stopped him, but applicant wasn’t phased by this. He related he would like a dog on the younger side so that he could train him…”you don’t know what they’ve been through.” I explained that ARG can only be as forthcoming as those that relinquish the ‘dale. Explained a long period of adjustment, patience, time, consistency and positive reinforcement is needed. Informed him that we would not adopt to him is he planned to allow the ‘dale to ride in the bed of his pick up truck. He stated that he understood…” things were different back then.”
He wants to be sure he is fenced before adopting. He said that he would consider a male. Would consider age range from 1-5 year.

Joe is a good guy. I would be ok leaving my Amos with him. He wants a companion/buddy. The ‘dale that gets Joe will be loved.

I went to Joe’s to check out his fence. All that remains for him to do is create a stairway (3 or 4 steps) from the covered deck out to the yard. The fence is at least 5 ft. tall, wood & without ability to see through the slats. It appears secure. The yard itself is VERY small. There is a nice sized covered deck that connects (or will) to the yard. I clarified his work hours…8-10 hours per day that the ‘dale would be alone. He’s not sure if he could take the ‘dale with him to work. He drives a truck. The ‘dale, if he got one would need to be ok alone for 8-10 hours.
