Care: D. CARE
D 1. What is the name of the person who will be the primary caregiver?: Jamie Roetman
D 2. Do you or do other caregivers have any physical limitations that would make it difficult or impossible to run after a loose dog or pick up a 50-70 pound dog? Explain.: No limitations. My second Airedale Tuck, required alot of help – he had IMPA (immune-mediated polyatrophe). He also had hind end weakness that progressed (he had the best care but no docter was able to diagnosis what this was – based on where we were living at the time, he visited Cornell, NC State, and some great doctors in Portland Maine). I used the Help’Em Up harness quite a bit.
D 3. How many hours will the dog be alone daily?: Up to 3 hours – I do have a horse, boarded at a facility 2 miles away. I see her 5-6 days a week for about 2 hours.
D 4. Describe how the dog would spend a typical workday or weekend at your home. Where will the dog stay when you are at work or out of the house? : I now work from home 100% of the time! My dog will be with me, or free in the house. I do have a crate that I will set up as a “safe place”, but he/she will not be locked in (unless we need to do some training).
D 5. What areas of your home or yard are off limits for your dog? : There are no off limit areas (well, except the pantry). My dogs always have free roam, but will be supervised in the backyard, or leashed as we go for walks in the neighborhood.
D 6. What activities would you like to share with your dog?: I love letting my dogs experience fun things. We’ll go for car rides, for walks at local parks or trails, and to share a hamburger at Mickey D’s. If the dog likes swimming, I’ll find a local dog pool to take him/her swimming. If the dog likes other dogs I’ll take him/her to a dog store to go shopping together.
D 7. What will you do if your dog gets lost? : Oh gosh, he or she will be microchipped. If he or she gets lost, I will contact the local animal groups, local vets, talk to my neighbors, and do everything possible to bring him/her home. I will not stop looking until he/she is safe at home. I have not lost a dog and hope I never do. Back in November of 2020 when I was living in Maine at my farmhouse, there was a small white terrier that was in our yard. The dog was so frightened, but my mom and I followed the dog through hay fields, and deeply forested areas to catch her – took over 2 hours. We brought her to the local animal shelter who knew this dog, and re-united her with her owners. The dog had been missing for over 30 days so we felt very thankful we were able to catch her and bring her to safety.
D 8. What dollar amount will it cost annually to take care of your dog? : My previous 2 Airedales had major medical issues, so it really depends on the dog. Let’s say $1000 for normal medical.
D 9. Will you obedience train your dog? : c. Informally yourself
D 10. Will you use a dog crate?: a. Yes (please describe below), b. No
D 10. a. If yes, describe the times or reasons you would use a crate. : If the dog needs crate training, I can provide it – but typically with older dogs, I don’t readily use a crate unless it is needed.
D 11. Will household members support and care for the dog?: a. Yes (please describe how below)
D 11. a. Describe their support for the dog: I don’t have any household members, but anyone who will visit must love dogs!
D 12. How will your dog be taken care of when you are away for business or vacation?: b. Pet-sitting service
D 13. Is there a spot already reserved in your home for an Airedale?: a. Couch/furniture
Pets: E. PETS
E 1. Do you currently own or live with any other animals?: a. Yes
E 2. Please describe your pets, including the type of animal(s), are they spayed/neutered, and their ages, and your previous pets, including the type of animal and breed, how long you had them, and what happened to them.: * Three domestic, short haired cats from the humane society (Izzy, Teddy, Sophia) – ages 5 and 6 (I know this is a deterrent, but they are great with dogs. My first Airedale would not have been okay with cats, but my second loved the cats. Have had the cats for 4 years now.
* Horse named Carabella – Draft Cross – boarded at a facility 2 miles away
* Parson Russell Terrier named Georgianna – my first dog – she’s 15 now, got her at 5 months from the humane society- lives with my parents in Maine. When I broke my wrist, I lived with my parents for 14 weeks and I went back to my home/work (2 hours away) by myself as it was difficult to manage and going to work took 10-12 hours. Decided to leave Georgi with my parents (a decision I regret fully as I love this girl and miss her terribly). It wouldn’t be fair to take her away now from her cousin (Oliver, a wirefox terrier) and her life, as she is a senior.
* Airedale named Quinn – rescued from TART in 2014 – passed away from what I think was Addison’s disease – he was at a board certified vet to be looked at and had the “Addisonian crisis”.
* Airedale named Tuck – rescued from SWAT in 2014 – passed away in 2019 from old age (had IMPA, hind end weakness, surgery for torn ACL)

E 6. Name and phone number of your current groomer. : N/A – I love grooming my animals myself – I have hair clippers, scissors, and nail clippers.

E 9. What brand of flea and tick preventative do you use; how often do you use it?: Seresto collar – every 8 months
E 10. Do you give your dog(s) any vitamins or supplements? If yes, please explain. : Probiotics. Will do something else if needed such as a joint supplement. I also do a lot of home cooking, sweet potatoes, chicken, rice, semolina noodles, ground beef, etc.
E 11. Have you ever had a dog that ran away or escaped from your home or car? Please explain.: No, thankfully I have not.
E 12. Have you ever had a dog hit by a car? Explain. : No, thankfully not.
E 13. Under what circumstances would you give up a dog?: The only circumstance would be if I could physically not take care of the dog properly and the dog’s health would be at risk. Otherwise, I would never give up a dog, regardless of medical or behavioral issues. I will work with the dog to resolve any issues and take care of them.
E 14. Have you ever had to give up a dog? Please explain your experience. : N/A

By submitting this form, I certify that the information I have provided is true and accurate. I am physically, emotionally, and financially able to care for an Airedale. I understand that Airedales require both physical and mental stimulation to thrive and I will provide both. I understand that Airedales that come into rescue may not have been trained or socialized properly and may need extra time, patience, and care to adjust to a new environment. This may include the need to attend pet obedience classes to help build a better bond with the new dog in the home. I understand that proper food and veterinarian care can be costly, and I am able to meet these needs. I agree that Airedale Rescue Group may check my veterinarian, groomer and personal references, as well as, my landlord, if applicable. Home visits will be conducted prior to and following an adoption to ensure the safe-keeping of the Airedale. ARG reserves the right to decline adoptions. ARG reserves the right to reclaim any dog who, in our judgment, appears neglected, abused, unkempt, or unsafe. to me, Airedale, ChristinaHi Pat,

April 15, 2021 at 7:29 pm #272604/15/2021 Jamie reached out on FB about Tootles. I will call and do a phone interview and see if Chris can do HV. Possible foster for Tootles.
April 16, 2021 at 6:19 pm #272784/16/2021: I was contacted by Jamie Roetman who submitted application in January but we did not complete review because she was contacting TART and SWAT. I talked with her 4/15/21 in POM. She is an experienced Airedale owner who dealt with dogs that development significant health issues. She lost them both before moving to AL earlier this year. She has 3 cats that can be separated from a foster dog. She sent photos of her home and fully fenced yard.
I have put Jamie and Chris Lincoln in touch with each other. Jamie will foster Tootles for up to 30 days as we formulate a plan for his health screens.
